In this paper, we report the obtention of gadolinium oxide doped with europium (Gd2O3:Eu+3) by thermal decomposition of the Gd(OH)3:Eu3+ precursor prepared by the microwave assisted hydrothermal method. These systems were analyzed by thermalgravimetric analyses (TGA/DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), structural Rietveld refinement method, fourrier transmission infrared absorbance spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and photoluminescence (PL) measurement. XRD patterns, Rietveld refinement analysis and FT-IR confirmed that the Gd(OH)3:Eu3+ precursor crystallize in a hexagonal structure and space group P6/m, while the Gd2O3:Eu3+ powders annealed in range of 500°C and 700°C crystallized in a cubic structure with space group Ia-3. FE-SEM images showed that Gd(OH)3:Eu3+ precursor and Gd2O3:Eu3+ are composed by aggregated and polydispersed particles structured as nanorods-like morphology. The excitation spectra consisted of an intense broad band with a maximum at 263 nm and the Eu3+ ions can be excitated via matrix. The emission spectra presented the characteristics transitions of the Eu3+ ion, whose main emission, , is observed at 612 nm. The photophysical properties indicated that the microwave sintering treatment favored the Eu3+ ions connected to the O-Gd linkages in the Gd2O3 matrix. Also, the emission in the Gd2O3:Eu3+ comes from the energy transfered from the Gd-O linkages to the clusters in the crystalline structure.

Bivariate distribution models are veritable tools for improving forest stand volume *** accuracy depends on the method of ***-date,most bivariate distributions in forestry have been constructed either with normal or Plackett *** this study,the accuracy of the Frank copula for constructing bivariate distributions was *** effectiveness of Frank and Plackett copulas were evaluated on seven distribution models using data from temperate and tropical *** bivariate distributions include:Burr III,Burr XII,Logit-Logistic,Log-Logistic,generalized Weibull,Weibull and *** likelihood was used to fit the models to the joint distribution of diameter and height data of Pinus pinaster(184 plots),Pinus radiata(96 plots),Eucalyptus camaldulensis(85 plots)and Gmelina arborea(60 plots).Models were evaluated based on negative log-likelihood(-ΛΛ).The result show that Frank-based models were more suitable in describing the joint distribution of diameter and height than most of their Plackett-based *** bivariate Burr III distributions had the overall best *** Frank copula is therefore recommended for the construction of more useful bivariate distributions in forestry.

The present paper is focused on the analysis of the European building processes from the historical perspective of federalism （from ethnic federalism to current federalism） applied to the current framework of Europeanization and cross-border cooperation in Europe. With the objective of reviewing some of its processes and impacts, an analysis structure has been set, being the main purpose to extract conclusions on the long Europeanization process undertaken by the EU institutions. One of these recent processes reached the consolidation of Euroregions as cross-border cooperation institutions within the framework of multilevel governance. For the main purpose of the paper, the following questions are raised： How has contributed the perspective of federalism to the building of cross-border institutions, namely Euroregions？ After three decades of implementation of the formal cooperation in Europe through institutions as the Euroregions, can it be confirmed that the Eurnregions are consolidated as an institutional benchmark within the cross-border cooperation in Europe （CBC-E）？ In order to answer these questions, a review of the historic perspective of ethnic federalism applied to the classical models of formal cooperation is undertaken. From this historical revision, the development of the Euroregion within the EU will be analyzed. Finally, the present paper is focused on the case study of the cross-border space that are the Autonomous Region of Galician and the Regiao Norte de Portugal, as well as its most important cooperative institution, the Euro-region Galicia-North Portugal.

The use of metal-accumulating plants for the phytoremediation of contaminated soils is gaining more attention. Mercury （Hg）-contaminated soils from historical gold mines represent a potential risk to human health and the environment. Therefore, Jatropha curcas plant, that has shown its tolerance to these environments, is a species of particular interest to implement phytoremediation techniques in gold mining sites. In this work, the behavior of J. curcas was assessed in different hydroponic cultures fortified with Hg at concentrations of 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80μg Hg/mL （T5, T10, T20, T40 and T80, respectively）. After exposure, plant growth, net photosynthesis, leaf area, and Hg accumulation were determined and variables such as net Hg uptake, effective Hg accumulation, translocation and bioaccumu- lation factors were calculated. Accumulation of Hg in root and leaf tissues increased with respect to the Hg concentrations in the hydroponic culture, with statistically significant differences （p 〈 0.05） among treatments. Moreover, Hg concentration in roots was 7 and 12-fold higher in average than in plant leaves and shoots, respectively. Many effects were found in the development of plants, especially related with loss of biomass and leaf area, with significant growth inhibition related to control values （〉50% with treatment T5）. Moreover, percentage of inhibition was even higher （〉60%） with same treatment for net photosynthesis. Finally, it should be highlighted that for T40 and T80 treatments, plant growth and photosynthesis were almost completely depleted （88%-95%）.

We study the scale-covariant theory of gravitation proposed by Canuto under the self-similar *** considering the matter collineation approach,we deduce the form of the main quantities and obtain some restrictions on the behavior of the gauge function,φ(t).We apply the obtained results to study the Bianchi I,Ⅶo,Ⅸ and Kantowsky Sachs models,and arrive at the conclusion that instead of considering a varying G theory,the solution is only valid for a particular value of the parameter of the equation of state,γ,.This leads us to obtain φ(t) =const,and by taking into account the external condition,Gφ2 =const,we may arrive at the conclusion that G=***,all the obtained solutions are the same as the ones obtained in the framework of general relativity.

AIM: To elucidate the mechanism(s) by which S-adenosyl-L-methionine(SAM) decreases hepatitis C virus(HCV) ***: We examined the effects of SAM on viral expression using an HCV subgenomic replicon cell culture system. Huh7 HCV-replicon cells were treated with 1 mmol/L SAM for different times(24-72 h), then total RNA and proteins were isolated. c DNA was synthesized and real time-PCR was achieved to quantify HCV-RNA, superoxide dismutase 1 and 2(SOD-1, SOD-2) catalase, thioredoxin 1, methionine adenosyltransferase 1A and 2A(MAT1A, MAT2A) expression, and GAPDH and RPS18 as endogenous genes. Expression of cellular and viral protein was evaluated by western-blot analysis using antibodies vs HCV-NS5 A, SOD-1, SOD-2, catalase, thioredoxin-1, MAT1 A, MAT2 A, GAPDH and actin. Total glutathione levels were measured at different times by Ellman's recycling method(0-24 h). Reactive oxidative species(ROS) levels were quantified by the dichlorofluorescein assay(0-48 h); Pyrrolidin dithiocarbamate(PDTC) was tested as an antioxidant control and H2O2 as a positive oxidant ***: SAM exposition decreased HCV-RNA levels 50%-70% compared to non-treated controls(24-72 h). SAM induced a synergic antiviral effect with standard IFN treatment but it was independent of IFN signaling. In addition, 1 mmol/L SAM exposition did not modify viral RNA stability, but it needs cellular translation machinery in order to decrease HCV expression. Total glutathione levels increased upon SAM treatment in HCV-replicon cells. Transcriptional antioxidant enzyme expression(SOD-1, SOD-2 and thioredoxin-1) was increased at different times but interestingly, there was no significant change in ROS levels upon SAM treatment, contrary to what was detected with PDTC treatment, where an average 40% reduction was observed in exposed cells.
