Thermal and salinity effects on locomotor performance of Thoropa taophora tadpoles(Anura,cycloramphidae)

It is well known that environmental temperature influences several biological functions of ectotherms,notably in *** high permeability of anuran skin,associated with the effect of elevated environmental temperature,potentiates the dehydration process and this combination may restrict locomotor ***pa taophora is an endemic species from the Atlantic Rainforest whose tadpoles are semiterrestrial and predominantly diurnal,and are found in rocky seashores where they are exposed to sea spray and high *** this study we investigated how temperature and salinity conditions affect the locomotor performance in Thoropa taophora *** also assessed how different osmotic concentrations affect the activity of the metabolic pathways that support muscle *** measured the sprint speed of tadpoles of various sizes at different temperatures and salinities in the *** also measured the activity of the enzymes pyruvate kinase(PK),lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)and citrate synthase(cS)in different temperatures and osmotic concentrations,and calculated the thermal sensitivity and the activity constants for each *** results showed that,in general,sprint speed decreased with increasing temperature and ***,whereas the effect of increased salinity was similar in smaller and larger tadpoles,increased temperature had a higher negative impact on sprint speed of larger tadpoles,thus indicating low thermal sensitivity of small *** and LDH thermal sensitivities and LDH constant of activity decreased as the osmolality *** conclusion,the locomotor capacity of tadpoles was decreased by temperature and salinity,which may be related to a decrease in anaerobic metabolism both in terms of sensitivity and total energy turnover through enzymatic *** discuss the ecological consequences,including the potential impacts on predator escape behavior promoted by changes in metabolism and locomotor performance

AIM:To evaluate the association between Helicobacter pylori(***) infection and MLH1 and MGMT methylation and its relationship with microsatellite instability(MSI).METHODS:The methylation status of the MLH1 and MGMT promoter region was analysed by methylation specific methylation-polymerase chain reaction(MSPPcR) in gastric biopsy samples from uninfected or ***-infected children(n = 50),from adults with chronic gastritis(n = 97) and from adults with gastric cancer(n = 92).MLH1 and MGMT mRNA expression were measured by real-time PcR and normalised to a constitutive gene(β actin).MSI analysis was performed by screening MSI markers at 4 loci(Bat-25,Bat-26,D17S250 and D2S123) with PcR;PcR products were analysed by single strand conformation polymorphism followed by silver *** analyses were performed with either the χ 2 test with Yates continuity correction or Fisher's exact test,and statistical significance for expression analysis was assessed using an unpaired Student's ***:Methylation was not detected in the promoter regions of MLH1 and MGMT in gastric biopsy samples from children,regardless of *** infection *** MGMT promoter was methylated in 51% of chronic gastritis adult patients and was associated with *** infection(P c cancer patients,and the difference in the percentage of methylated samples between these patients and those from ***-infected chronic gastritis patients was statistically significant(P cies among ***-infected and non-infected chronic gastritis adult patients were 13% and 7%,*** observed methylation of the MLH1 promoter(39%) and increased MSI levels(68%) in samples from gastric cancer patients in comparison to samples from ***-infected adult chronic gastritis patients(P ctively).The frequency of promoter methylation for both genes was higher in gastric cancer sam

Reassessment of Prejanopterus curvirostris, a Basal Pterodactyloid Pterosaur from the Early cretaceous of Spain

Prejanopterus curvirostra, from the Early cretaceous of La Rioja province, was the first pterosaur genus and species described from Spain. The material comprises disarticulated cranial and postcranial remains from several individuals. The fossil-bearing bed is assigned to the lacustrine Leza Formation （eastern cameros Basin, NW margin of the Iberian Range）. This unit is regarded as either Berriasian-Valanginian or Barremian-Aptian. Prejanopterus curvirostris （specific name emended） was originally diagnosed on the basis of several characters of which the most significant was a lateral curvature of the rostrum. Re-examination of the holotype （rostrum） and paratype （partial rostrum with teeth） indicates that there is no genuine sideways bend of the preserved premaxilla-maxilla segments, but a slight dorsal curvature. Prejanopterus is characterized by a unique combination of characters： an emended diagnosis is provided. In contrast with previous estimates, the wing span of Prejanopterus was probably not much （if ever） in excess of 2 m. A phylogenetic analysis suggests that Prejanopterus is a basal pterodactyloid positioned between Pterodactylus and cycnorhamphus- Gallodactylus. Prejanopterus represents the first evidence of Pterodactylidae in the Early cretaceous of the Iberian Peninsula.

pancreatic cancer(pa c) shows a clear tendency to increase in the next years and therefore represents an important health and social challenge. currently, there is an important need to find biomarkers for pac early detection because the existing ones are not useful for that purpose. Recent studies have indicated that there is a large window of time for pac early detection, which opens the possibility to find early biomarkers that could greatly improve the dismal prognosis of this tumor. The present manuscript reviews the state of the art of the existing pac biomarkers. It focuses on the anomalous glycosylation process and its role in pac. Glycan structures of glycoconjugates such as glycoproteins are modified in tumors and these modifications can be detected in biological fluids of the cancer patients. Several studies have found serum glycoproteins with altered glycan chains in pac patients, but they have not shown enough specificity for pac. To find more specific cancer glycoproteins we propose to analyze the glycan moieties of a battery of glycoproteins that have been reported to increase in pac tissues and that can also be found in serum. The combination of these new candidate glycoproteins with their aberrant glycosylation together with the existing biomarkers could result in a panel, which would expect to give better results as a new tool for early diagnosis of pac and to monitor the disease.

Production of’renewable Methane’has attracted renewed research interest as a fundamental probe reaction and process for cO_(2)utilization through potential use in cl fuel production and even for future space exploration ***_(2)methanation is a structure sensitive reaction on Ni/ceO_(2)*** precisely elucidate the size effect of the Ni metal center on the cO_(2)methanation performance,we prepared2%Ni/ceO_(2)catalysts with pre-synthesized uniform Ni particles(2,4 and 8 nm)on a high surface area ceO_(2)*** electron microscopy(TEM)and ambient pressure X-ray photo spectroscopy(AP-XPS)characterization have confirmed that the catalyst structure and chemical state was uniform and stable under reaction *** 8 nm sized catalyst showed superior methanation selectivity over the 4 and 2 nm counterparts,and the methanation activity in term of TOF is 10 times and 70 times higher than for the 4 and 2 nm counterparts,*** DRIFTS studies revealed that the larger Ni(8 nm particles)over ceO_(2)efficiently facilitated the hydrogenation of the surface formate intermediates,which is proposed as the rate determining step accounting for the excellent cO_(2)methanation performance.

Differences in viral kinetics between genotypes 1 and 3 of hepatitis c virus and between cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic patients during antiviral therapy

AIM： TO evaluate the impact of hepatitis c virus （HcV） infection with genotype 1 or 3 and the presence or absence of liver cirrhosis （Lc） in the early viral kinetics response to treatment. METHODS： Naive patients （n = 46） treated with interferon-α （IFN-α） and ribavirin and followed up with frequent early HcV-RNA determinations were analysed. patients were infected with genotype 1 （n = 28, 7 with Lc） or 3 （n = 18, 5 with Lc）. RESULTS： The first phase decline was larger in genotype 3 patients than in genotype 1 patients （1.72 vs 0.95 log IU/mL, P 〈 0.001）. The second phase slope decline was also larger in genotype 3 patients than in genotype 1 patients （0.87 vs 0.15 log/wk, P 〈 0.001）. Differences were found in both cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic patients. Genotype 1 cirrhotic patients had a slower 2^nd phase slope than non-cirrhotic patients （0.06 vs 0.18 log/wk, P 〈 0,02）. None of genotype 1 cirrhotic patients had a 1^st phase decline larger than 1 log （non-cirrhotic patients： 55%, P 〈 0.02）. A similar trend toward a slower 2nd phase slope was observed in genotype 3 cirrhotic patients but the 1^st phase slope decline was not different. Sustained viral response was higher in genotype 3 patients than in genotype 1 patients ,（72% vs 14%, P 〈 0.001） and in genotype 1 non-cirrhotic patients than in genotype 1 cirrhotic patients （19% vs 0%）. A second phase decline slower than 0.3 log per week was predictive of non-response in all groups. cONcLUSION： Genotype 3 has faster early viral decline than genotype 1. cirrhosis correlates with a slower 2nd phase decline and possibly with a lower 1^st phase slope decline in genotype 1 patients.

Purpose:The aim of the present study was to analyze the associations of youths' sedentary behavior(SB) with parents' and siblings' SB and physical activity(pa),as well as the associations of youths' coparticipation with parents,siblings,and friends in pa and SB with youths' ***:The sample consisted of 1543 youths(12.02±2.51 years;788 boys) enrolled in the baseline cohort of the UP&DOWN *** was assessed by accelerometry and *** reported the time spent by their parents and siblings watching television,playing videogames,surfing the Internet,sitting/resting,and doing ***,participants reported coparticipation with parents,siblings,and friends in these *** mixed models,including school and city as random effects,were ***:parents' television time was positively associated with youths' screen-based *** with friends in playing videogames(in boys) and in surfing the Internet(in girls) showed a positive association with screen-based SB and a negative association with educational-based ***,coparticipation with siblings and friends in pa was inversely associated with accelerometer-based SB in boys and ***:Our results emphasize the important role of social modeling in the development of sedentary lifestyles in *** aimed at reducing health risk behaviors in youths could be more effective if they are oriented from a social perspective that involves their families and networks of their closest friends.

Sulodexide and Alzheimer’s Disease: A Preliminary Prospective Study

The purpose of this prospective study is to determine the relative incidence of Alzheimer’s disease in patients treated for at least three years, with sulodexide (n = 46, 76.48 ± 7.02 years old) or acenocoumarol (n = 47, 78.21 ± 6.66 years old) in order to prevent primary and secondary venous thromboembolism and atherothrombotic disease. In the sulodexide group, there was an apparent prevention of cognitive and behavioural impairment (relative incidence: 2.02) compared with acenocoumarol group (relative incidence: 4.86). The favourable results in sulodexide group may be related to their pharmacodynamic actions of inhibition of paI-1, which may interfere with the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease, and to the role of glutathione and paI-1 in the β-amyloid system in the brain.
