The relationships between climate conditions and wood density in tropical forests are still poorly *** quantify spatial dependence of wood density in the state of Minas Gerais(MG,Brazil),map spatial distribution of density,and correlate density with climate variables,we extracted data from the Forest Inventory of Minas Gerais for 1988 trees scaled throughout the territory and measured wood density of discs removed from the *** variables were extracted from the database of the Ecological-Economic Zoning of Minas *** spatial analysis,tree densities were measured at 44 georeferenced sampling *** data were subjected to exploratory analysis,variography,cross-validation,model selection,and ordinary *** relationships between wood density and environmental variables were calculated using dispersion matrices,linear correlation,and *** density proved to be highly spatially dependent,reaching a correlation of 96%,and was highly continuous over a distance of 228 *** distribution of wood density followed a continuous gradient of 514-659 kg m^(−3),enabling corre-lation with environment *** was correlated with mean annual precipitation(−0.57),temperature(0.63),and evapotranspiration(0.83).Geostatistical methods proved useful in predicting wood density in native tropical forests with different climate *** results confirmed the sensitivity of wood density to climate change,which could affect future carbon stock in forests.

This research assessed the relationship between wood physical-anatomical variables and charcoal physical-mechanical *** trees were harvested and mechanically processed into standard pieces for laboratory *** following variables were determined:wood density,fiber length and width,fiber lumen diameter and wall thickness,fiber wall fraction,and vessel *** charcoal was produced in a laboratory and gravimetric yield,relative density,and mechanical properties ***’s correlation coefficients,multivariate statistical analysis of canonical correlation,and principal component analysis were used to evaluate the relationship between wood and charcoal *** width was not significantly correlated with charcoal *** bulk density,hardness,and strength were positively correlated with wood density,fiber length,wall thickness,and wall *** properties were negatively correlated with fiber lumen diameter and vessel *** results will help identify the best wood with adequate physical-mechanical properties for industrial charcoal proces sing.

Energy Conversion Factor for Gasoline Engines in Real-World Driving Emission Cycle

A precise energy conversion factor is required to define the impact of greenhouse gas emissions by gasoline-powered vehi-cles and policies that will guide the application of future *** current energy conversion factor adopted by many countries is based on the Willans line approach,initially proposed in 1888 for steam engines,later adapted for internal combustion *** actual energy conversion factor,which defines the energy conversion for drivers in real traffic,is *** this article,eight world-class engines are tested in an engine bench for the acquisition of specific fuel consumption 3D ***,their energy conversion factors,calculated by dividing the energy output by the energy input,are simulated in real and urban traffic,acquired according to the real driving emissions(RDE)*** addition,a reference vehicle is instrumented to measure the energy input(fuel flow)and the energy output(mechanical energy in the half axles)under the same RDE cycle *** results of both procedures are very similar,respectively,0.405±0.04 L/kWh for the simulation based on eight benchmark engines,and 0.392±0.04 L/kWh for the reference vehicle driven in RDE traffic conditions,with a 95%confidence *** turbocharged engines,the factor attained by the simulation is 0.395±0.04 L/*** values of the energy conversion factor for gasoline engines got in this research are higher than those obtained through the Willans line approach,suggesting a new standard value of 0.405 L/kWh,replacing the current 0.264 L/*** could substantially change the greenhouse gas emissions in a tank-to-wheel approach for the entire vehicle and add-on eco-innovations.

PillCam~ sB3 capsule: Does the increased frame rate eliminate the risk of missing lesions?

since its emergence in 2000, small bowel capsule endoscopy(sBCE) has assumed a pivotal role as an investigation method for small bowel diseases. The PillCam sB2-ex offers 12 h of battery time, 4 more than the previous version(sB2). Rahman et al recently found that the PillCam sB2-ex has a significantly increased completion rate, although without higher diagnostic yield, compared with the sB2. We would like to discuss these somewhat surprising results and the new potentialities of the PillCam sB3 regarding the diagnostic yield of small bowel studies. PillCam sB3 offers improved image resolution and faster adaptable frame rate over previous versions of sBCE. We recently compared the major duodenal papilla detection rate obtained with PillCam sB3 and sB2 as a surrogate indicator of diagnostic yield in the proximal small bowel. The PillCam sB3 had a significantly higher major duodenal papilla detection rate than the PillCam sB2(42.7% vs 24%, P = 0.015). Thus, the most recent version of the PillCam capsule, sB3, may increase diagnostic yield, particularly in the proximal segments of the small bowel.

Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis of Greenhouses with Artificial Heat Tube

With the workmanship decrease in farms, the necessity to rationalize the use of other inputs and the development of technology has rapidly expanded the use of computer simulation in agricultural systems. One of the agricultural systems in which the modeling process of plant growth has been more engaged is the greenhouse production for horticultural crops. In Mediterranean climate, it is during the night that the energy losses are important and can be compensated with an artificial heat input. In this work an experiment was performed in a greenhouse in the north of Portugal. Temperature values in several points and air velocity in the aperture were measured during the night for three different cases: natural convective heating (case A);artificial heating tubes (AHT) (case B);AHT and natural ventilation (case C). A CFD simulation, carried out using FLOTRAN module of ANsYs, was also performed in two-dimensional configuration to obtain the indoor air temperature and velocity fields for the three cases. A very good agreement between experimental and numerical temperature values were verified, which allows to validate the adopted numerical procedure. In case A, the average temperature was 2.2℃. An average increase of 6.7℃ and 3.5℃ on the air temperature was obtained for the case B and case C, respectively. These results clearly emphasis the influence of each thermal load on greenhouse indoor air properties.

Optical Coherence Tomography Findings in a Case of Unilateral Acute Idiopathic Maculopathy

Purpose: To describe the clinical, angiographic, and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) findings in a patient with Unilateral Acute Idiopathic Maculopathy (UAIM) and to discuss a possible pattern of OCT findings in patients with this disease. Methods: Case report. Results: A 34-year-old man with UAIM was evaluated. During the acute phase fundus examination revealed a yellow thickening in the macular area of the right eye, Fluorescein Angiography (FA) showed early alternating patches of hypofluorescence and hyperfluorescence and late hyperfluorescence and OCT showed thickening of the outer retina in the foveal zone. six weeks later, the macula had pigmentary mottling, FA showed an area of central hypofluorescence surrounded by a hyperfluorescent ring that remained unchanged during the angiogram and the OCT examination was normal. Conclusion: OCT is a useful diagnostic tool for UAIM. OCT evaluation of patients with this disease will exhibit the heterogeneous hyperreflectivity and thickening of the outer retina and Retinal Pigment Epithelium (RPE). A serous macular detachment may not be a prominent finding in UAIM.

Natural killer(NK)cell-mediated antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity(ADCC)through CD16 plays a critical role in antihuman immunodeficiency virus(HIV)responses.1–3 CD300a is a surface receptor highly expressed on NK cells that has the capacity to inhibit NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity in healthy donors.4 The CD300a molecule has been related to several viral infections and is able to diminish the NK cell killing of pseudorabies-infected cells through interactions with its ligands phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine.5 In addition,CD300a expression on B and CD4+T lymphocytes is altered during HIV-1 infection,and combined antiretroviral therapy(cART)does not restore nonpathological expression levels.5,6 However,the expression and function of CD300a on NK cells during HIV-1 infection is still *** have determined the surface expression of CD300a on different NK cell subsets and the capacity of this receptor to inhibit CD16-induced NK cell effector functions in healthy and HIV-1 infected individuals.

Upper gastrointestinal bleeding risk scores： Who, when andwhy？

Upper gastrointestinal bleeding(UGIB) remains a significant cause of hospital admission. In order to stratify patients according to the risk of the compli-cations, such as rebleeding or death, and to predict the need of clinical intervention, several risk scores have been proposed and their use consistently recommended by international guidelines. The use of risk scoring systems in early assessment of patients suffering from UGIB may be useful to distinguish high-risks patients, who may need clinical intervention and hospitalization, from low risk patients with a lower chance of developing complications, in which management as outpatients can be considered. Although several scores have been published and validated for predicting different outcomes, the most frequently cited ones are the Rockall score and the Glasgow Blatchford score(GBs). While Rockall score, which incorporates clinical and endoscopic variables, has been validated to predict mortality, the GBs, which is based on clinical and laboratorial parameters, has been studied to predict the need of clinical intervention. Despite the advantages previously reported, their use in clinical decisions is still limited. This review describes the different risk scores used in the UGIB setting, highlights the most important research, explains why and when their use may be helpful, reflects on the problems that remain unresolved and guides future research with practical impact.
