C3G is a GEF(guanine nucleotide exchange factor)for Rap GTPases,among which the isoform Rap1b is an essential protein in platelet *** transgenic mouse models with platelet-specific overexpression of C3G or mutant C3GΔCat,we have unveiled a new function of C3G in regulating the hemostatic function of platelets through its participation in the thrombin-PKCRap1b pathway.C3G also plays important roles in angiogenesis,tumor growth,and metastasis through its regulation of the platelet *** addition,C3G contributes to megakaryopoiesis and ***,we used a platelet-specific C3G-KO mouse model to further support the role of C3G in hemostasis.C3G-KO platelets showed a significant delay in platelet activation and aggregation as a consequence of the defective activation of Rap1,which resulted in decreased thrombus formation in ***,we explored the contribution of C3G-Rap1b to platelet signaling pathways triggered by thrombin,PMA or ADP,in the referenced transgenic mouse model,through the use of a battery of specific *** found that platelet C3G is phosphorylated at Tyr504 by a mechanism involving *** phosphorylation was shown to be positively regulated by ERKs through their inhibition of the tyrosine phosphatase ***,C3G participates in the ADP-P2Y12-PI3K-Rap1b pathway and is a mediator of thrombin-TXA2 ***,it inhibits the synthesis of TXA2 through cPLA2 *** together,our data reveal the critical role of C3G in the main pathways leading to platelet activation and aggregation through the regulation of Rap1b.

Hepatogenous diabetes: Is it a neglected condition in chronic liver disease?

Diabetes mellitus(DM) that occurs because of chronic liver disease(CLD) is known as hepatogenous diabetes(HD). Although the association of diabetes and liver cirrhosis was described forty years ago, it was scarcely studied for long time. Patients suffering from this condition have low frequency of risk factors of type 2 DM. Its incidence is higher in CLD of viral, alcoholic and cryptogenic etiology. Its pathophysiology relates to liver damage, pancreatic dysfunction, interactions between hepatitis C virus(HCV) and glucose metabolism mechanisms and genetic susceptibility. It associates with increased rate of liver complications and hepatocellular carcinoma, and decreased 5-year survival rate. It reduces sustained virological response in HCV infected patients. In spite of these evidences, the American Diabetes Association does not recognize HD. In addition, the impact of glucose control on clinical outcomes of patients has not been evaluated. Treatment of diabetes may be difficult due to liver insufficiency and hepatotoxicity of antidiabetic drugs. notwithstanding, no therapeutic guidelines have been implemented up to date. In this editorial, authors discuss the reasons why they think that HD may be a neglected pathological condition and call attention to the necessity for more clinical research on different fields of this disease.

An overview of animal models for investigating the pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies in acute hepatic failure

Acute hepatic failure (AHF) is a severe liver injury accompanied by hepatic encephalopathy which causes multiorgan failure with an extremely high mortality rate, even if intensive care is provided. Management of severe AHF continues to be one of the most challenging problems in clinical medicine. Liver transplantation has been shown to be the most effective therapy, but the procedure is limited by shortage of donor organs. Although a number of clinical trials testing different liver assist devices are under way, these systems alone have no significant effect on patient survival and are only regarded as a useful approach to bridge patients with AHF to liver transplantation. As a result, reproducible experimental animal models resembling the clinical conditions are still needed. The three main approaches used to create an animal model for AHF are: surgical procedures, toxic liver injury and infective procedures. Most common models are based on surgical techniques (total/partial hepatectomy, complete/transient devascularization) or the use of hepatotoxic drugs (acetaminophen, galactosamine, thioacetamide, and others), and very few satisfactory viral models are available. We have recently developed a viral model of AHF by means of the inoculation of rabbits with the virus of rabbit hemorrhagic disease. This model displays biochemical and histological characteristics, and clinical features that resemble those in human AHF. In the present article an overview is given of the most widely used animal models of AHF, and their main advantages and disadvantages are reviewed.

Experimental study on lightweight expanded clay at particle level:Breakage of isolated grains

In this study,more than 1500 particles of lightweight expanded clay aggregate(LECA)are individually loaded up to breakage,following different patterns of contact(from 2 to 7)using a purpose-built ***,a statistical model for predicting the number of fragments into which a grain breaks as a function of the number of contacts and their diameter is *** number of fragments is found to follow a statistical binomial-type distribution function that depends on the number of *** addition,a model based on Bayesian networks,capable of assessing the number of fragments and their size(measured as normalized weight)as a function of the number of contacts,is *** proposed method is applicable when performing discrete element method(DEM)simulations on granular media in which grain breakage plays a relevant role.

Boron （B） is an essential nutrient for normal growth of higher plants, and B availability in soil and irrigation water is an important determinant of agricultural production. To date, a primordial function of B is undoubtedly its structural role in the ceil wall; however, there is increasing evidence for a possible role of B in other processes such as the maintenance of plasma membrane function and several metabolic pathways. In recent years, the knowledge of the molecular basis of B deficiency and toxicity responses in plants has advanced greatly. The aim of this review is to provide an update on recent findings related to these topics, which can contribute to a better understanding of the role of B in plants.

The high penetration of distributed generation(DG)has set up a challenge for energy management and consequently for the monitoring and assessment of power quality(PQ).Besides,there are new types of disturbances owing to the uncontrolled connections of non-linear *** stochastic behaviour triggers the need for new holistic indicators which also deal with big data of PQ in terms of compression and scalability so as to extract the useful information regarding different network states and the prevailing PQ disturbances for future risk assessment and energy management *** and continuous monitoring would guarantee the report to claim for damages and to assess the risk of PQ *** this context,we propose a measurement method that postulates the use of two-dimensional(2D)diagrams based on higher-order statistics(HOss)and a previous voltage quality index that assesses the voltage supply waveform in a continous monitoring *** suitable for both PQ and reliability applications,the results conclude that the inclusion of HOs measurements in the industrial metrological reports helps characterize the deviations of the voltage supply waveform,extracting the individual customers’pattern fingerprint,and compressing the data from both time and spatial *** method allows a continuous and robust performance needed in the sG ***,the method can be used by an average consumer as a probabilistic method to assess the risk of PQ deviations in site characterization.

Diabetes mellitus(DM)is common in liver cirrhosis(LC).The pathophysiological association is *** is a risk factor of LC and LC is a diabetogenic *** the recent years,research on different aspects of the association DM and LC has been ***,it has been insufficient and still exist many *** aims of this review are:(1)To discuss the latest understandings of the association of DM and LC in order to identify the strategies of early diagnosis;(2)To evaluate the impact of DM on outcomes of LC patients;and(3)To select the most adequate management benefiting the two *** searches were conducted using Pub Med,Ovid and scopus engines for DM and LC,diagnosis,outcomes and *** authors also provided insight from their own published *** on the published studies,two types of DM associated with LC have emerged:Type 2 DM(T2 DM)and hepatogenous diabetes(HD).High-quality evidences have determined that T2 DM or HD significantly increase complications and death pre and post-liver *** has been poorly studied and has not been recognized as a complication of *** management of DM in LC patients continues to be difficult and should be based on drug pharmacokinetics and the degree of liver *** conclusion,the clinical impact of DM in outcomes of LC patients has been the most studied item *** many gaps still exist particularly in the *** most important gaps were highlighted in order to propose future lines for research.

Post-acute pancreatitis diabetes(PAPD)is the second most common type of diabetes below type 2 diabetes *** to the boom in research on this entity carried out during the last decade,its recognition has ***,much of the medical community still does not recognize it as a medium and long-term complication of acute pancreatitis(AP).Recent prospective cohort studies show that its incidence is about 23%globally and 34.5%in patients with severe *** the overall increase in the incidence of AP this complication will be certainly seen more *** to its high morbidity,mortality and difficult control,early detection and treatment are ***,its risk factors and pathophysiological mechanisms are not clearly *** diagnosis should be made excluding pre-existing diabetes and applying the criteria of the American Diabetes Association after 90 d of resolution of one or more AP *** review will show the evidence published so far on the incidence and prevalence,risk factors,possible pathophysiological mechanisms,clinical outcomes,clinical characteristics and preventive and corrective management of *** important gaps needing to be clarified in forthcoming studies will also be discussed.

Tracking the change in spanish greenhouse gas emissions through an LMDI decomposition model:A global and sectoral approach

The reduction of GHG emissions to reverse the greenhouse effect is one of the main challenges in this *** this paper we pursue two ***,we analyze the evolution of GHG emissions in spain in 2008–2018,at both the global and sectoral levels,with the variation in emissions decomposed into a set of determining ***,we propose several actions specifically oriented to more tightly controlling the level of *** results showed a remarkable reduction(18.44%)in GHG emissions,mainly due to the intensity effect,but also to the production-per-capita *** detected somewhat different patterns among the various sectors *** the intensity effect was the most influential one in the agricultural,transport,and others sectors,the production-per-capita effect was predominant in the case of *** carbonization effect was revealed as crucial in the commerce *** above findings highlight the importance of the energy efficiency measures taken in recent years in the spanish economy,also pointing to the need to deepen those strategies and to propose new measures that entail greater efficiency in *** efforts in areas like innovation,R&D,diffusion of more eco-friendly technologies,and a greater use of greener energies all prove to be essential reduction actions to fight the greenhouse effect.
