g>Introduction:g> malaria control becomes effective if countries adopt the World Health Organization & global malaria Programme (WHO/gmP) recommendation with includes diagnosis of malaria cases and treatment with effective medicines, distribution of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS). Ownership and utilization of mosquito nets for malaria prevention is still sub-optimal with only 62% ownership of at least one mosquito net and only 37% of children using the nets. This seeks to investigate the willingness to buy and the use ITN use among caregivers of under five children attending immunization clinic in Bingham University Teaching Hospital. g>methodology:g> A descriptive cross sectional study design carried out among 242 caregivers of all ages and sex of under-five children attending immunization clinic at Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BHUTH) in jos.North Local government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. A Simple Random Sampling technique was used to select respondents. g>Findings:g> Two hundred and sixteen 216 (89.3%) of the children use ITNs, majority of the children 190 (78.5%) slept under ITN the night before the interview, 226 (93.4%) owned ITNs, 156 (64.5%) got the ITNs for free while 60 (24.8%) paid for it and majority 172 (71.1%) of the children use ITN every night. Tertiary education, having much younger children (less than 3 years) and perception as a means of malaria prevention were associated with higher use of ITNs. majority 220 (90.9%) the caregivers were willing to buy ITN and also recommend ITN to others. Caregivers who were traders and civil servants were willing to buy ITN than farmers, tertiary education, having children 1 - 3 months old, and owning 3 or more ITNs was associated with willingness to buy ITNs. g>Conclusion: g>About 90% of the children of caregivers use ITNs and over three quarters slept under ITN the night before the interview and majority use i

Sensory analysis tools are the classic means for guaranteeing sensory quality, assessing acceptability, and recognizing faults in food products. Powerful sensory analysis techniques, were applied to evaluate Homemade Complementary Food (HCF) using milk combination of plant and animal origin. An experimental but descriptive method of research was used with Mubi as the study area. Milk from animal, (cow and goat) as well as milk from plant origin (soya beans milk,) was used. Milk from animal source was pasteurized using Vat pasteurization process (FDA, 2015) while quality soya beans milk was used to prepare milk of plant origin. Blended banana was also used as part of the home made complementary food alongside milk on a 50:50 ratio. A 15 member trained panel made up of mothers with children under the age of 5 years and currently breast feeding were the respondents, a sensory evaluation sheet based on the 9-point hedonic scale was used for scoring. Proximate analysis of sample was done using standard methods, AOAC (2000). Data was analyzed statistically using means and standard deviation. Vector surveillance is very key in solving mosquito-borne health problems in *** this end,the composition and distribution of mosquito vectors in a peri-urban community surrounding an institution of learning in Lafia metropolis,Nasarawa State,Central Nigeria was carried out between December 2016 and June *** Prokopack Aspirator was used to collect indoor resting mosquitoes between 6:00 *** 9:00 *** 30 randomly selected *** collected were knocked down and transferred into a well labelled petri-dish and taken to the laboratory for processing.A total of 664 mosquitoes were collected which spread across Culex quinquefasciatus 572(86.14%),Anopheles gambiae 88(13.25%)and Aedes aegypti 4(0.60%).The abundance of mosquitoes in relation to seasons,species,sex,abdominal conditions as well as transmission indices across seasons significantly varied(Pmosquito in relation to house types showed no significant difference(P>0.05).The inhabitants of the area should ensure that all drainages flow through so as to reduce mosquito breeding ***,members of the community should always protect themselves by sleeping under insecticide treated bed nets.

This study evaluated the effect of enriched artemia nauplii with commercial probiotic for angelfish larvae determining growth perfomance,survival and modulation of the intestinal ***,it experiment occurred in completely randomized design with five treatments(T1-0.0,T2-1.5,T3-3.0,T4-4.5 and T5-6.0g of commercial probiotic)and four replaces during 20 *** larvaculture,post larvae passed by biometric procedures to determine productive performance and then microbiological *** reduction of total heterotrophic bacteria while increased lactic acid bacteria in the intestinal tract from the post larvae for treatments T3,T4 and *** commercial probiotic also increased the survival and performance as final weight,weight gain and specific growth *** these reasons,the use of 3g of commercial probiotic promotes greater performance and intestinal modulation for angelfish larvae.

Effects of Chloroquine and Naphthoquinone on Prothrombin Time and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time of Swiss mice

Concerns on the coagulation variables, Prothrombin Time (PT) and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) which are part of coagulation parameters used in assessing haemostatsis in haematology, led to the study of the effects of naphthoquinone and chloroquine on the PT and APTT of mice infected with m>Plasmodium bergheim>, and treated with graded concentrations of chloroquine and naphthoquinone. Using brain thromboplastin with calcium and rabbit brain cephalosporin ad kaolin respectively the experiment aimed at demonstrating the effect of chloroquine with purity of 99.79% and naphthoquinone with purity of 97.00%, upon a three-day intraperitoneal administration at concentrations of 0.1 mg/kg, 0.5 mg/kg, 1.0 mg/kg and 2.0 mg/kg. Result showed that the APTT and PT of naphthoquinone at 2.0 mg/kg, were 196.67 seconds, and 67.63 seconds respectively, while the APTT and PT of chloroquine were 3.63 seconds and 1.40 seconds respectively for the same concentration. Also, naphthoquinone showed lower APTT but sustained PT at concentrations below 1.50 mg/kg whereas both APTT and PT increased from concentrations above 1.50 mg/kg. On the other hand chloroquine showed a lowered APTT between 0.00 to 0.15 mg/kg while PT was sustained, but both APTT and PT increased from concentration of 0.15 mg/kg gradually. This study conclusively showed that chloroquine has a shorter APTT and PT than naphthoquinones, even though they elicited similar actions. Apart from this, naphthoquinone and chloroquine belonging to the same family, naphthoquinone could be more toxic than chloroquine at the dosages equivalent to 1.50 mg/kg, therefore, any administration of naphthoquinone above this dosage should be closely monitored to avoid any form of danger to the patient.
