Ethyl and butyl acetate oxidation over manganese oxides

Mangenese oxides were synthesized using two new methods,a novel solvent‐free reaction and a reflux technique,that produced cryptomelane‐type products(K‐OMS‐2).Oxides were also synthesized using conventional methods and all specimens were applied to the oxidation of ethyl acetate and butyl acetate,acting as models for the volatile organic compounds found in industrial *** catalysts were also characterized using N2adsorption,X‐ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,temperature programmed reduction and X‐ray photoelectron *** of the manganese oxides was found to be very active during the oxidation of both esters to CO2,and the synthesis methodology evidently had a significant impact on catalytic *** K‐OMS‐2nanorods synthesized by the solvent‐free method showed higher activity than K‐OMS‐2materials prepared by the reflux technique,and samples with cryptomelane were more active than those prepared by the conventional *** catalyst with the highest performance also exhibited good stability and allowed90%conversion of ethyl and butyl acetate to CO2at213and202°C,*** differences in the catalyst performance were observed,clearly indicating that K‐OMS‐2nanorods prepared by the solvent‐free reaction were better catalysts for the selected VOC oxidations than the mixtures of manganese oxides traditionally obtained with conventional synthesis *** superior performance of the K‐OMS‐2catalysts might be related to the increased average oxidation state of the manganese in these *** correlations between the catalytic performance and the surface chemical properties were also identified,hig-hlighting the K‐OMS‐2properties associated with the enhanced catalytic performance of the materials.?2018,Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics,Chinese Academy of *** by Elsevier *** rights reserved.

Plasma betatrophin levels in patients with liver cirrhosis

AIM: To investigate the plasma levels of betatrophin in patients with ***: forty patients diagnosed at the clinic with liver cirrhosis according to biological, ultrasonographic,or histological criteria were *** severity of cirrhosis was classified according to Pugh's modification of Child's classification and MELD score. Insulin resistance(IR) was assessed by the Homeostasis Model Assessment. A total of 20 patients showed a MELD score higher than 14. The control group consisted in 15 sex-and aged-matched *** blood samples were obtained for subsequent analysis. Serum insulin was determined by Liaison automated immune chemiluminiscence assay(DiaSorin S.p.A.) using a sandwich assay. The sensitivity of the assay was 0.2 μU/mL. The intra and interassay variation coefficients were fic quantitative sandwich ELISA(Aviscera Bioscience). The sensitivity of the assay was 0.4 ng/mL, and the intra and interassay reproducibility wereficantly increased in patients with cirrhosis compared with those in healthy subjects(P = 0.0001). Betatrophin levels were also associated with disease severity, being higher in Child-Pugh C patients compared to Child-Pugh B(Pfound a positive correlation between plasma betatrophin levels and the severity of cirrhosis according to Child-Pugh classification(r = 0.53; P < 0.01) or MELD score(r = 0.45; P <0.01). In the overall cohort, a moderate correlation between serum betatrophin and plasmatic bilirrubin(r= 0.39; P < 0.01) has been observed, as well as an inverse correlation between betatrophin and albumin(r =-0.41; P < 0.01) or prothrombin time(r =-0.44;P <0.01). Modeling and multi-objective optimization of a gasoline engine using neural networks and evolutionary algorithms

In this paper, a multi-objective particle swarm optimization （MOPSO） algorithm and a nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II （NSGA-II） are used to optimize the operating parameters of a 1.6 L, spark ignition （SI） gasoline engine. The aim of this optimization is to reduce engine emissions in terms of carbon monoxide （CO）, hydrocarbons （HC）, and nitrogen oxides （NOx）, which are the causes of diverse environmental problems such as air pollution and global warming. Stationary engine tests were performed for data generation, covering 60 operating conditions. Artificial neural networks （ANNs） were used to predict exhaust emissions, whose inputs were from six engine operating parameters, and the outputs were three resulting exhaust emissions. The outputs of ANNs were used to evaluate objective functions within the optimization algorithms： NSGA-II and MOPSO. Then a decision-making process was conducted, using a fuzzy method to select a Pareto solution with which the best emission reductions can be achieved. The NSGA-II algorithm achieved reductions of at least 9.84%, 82.44%, and 13.78% for CO, HC, and NOx, respectively. With a MOPSO algorithm the reached reductions were at least 13.68%, 83.80%, and 7.67% for CO, HC, and NOx, respectively.

Status of Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab2 resistance in field populations of Helicoverpa zea in Texas, USA

Influence of Bed Geometry on the Drying of Skimmed Milk in a Spouted Bed

In this present work, the fluidynamic and drying process of skimmed milk in conical and conical-cylindrical spouted bed was analyzed as a function of different bed geometry and operating conditions. It used three internal cone angles (45°, 60° and 75°), different loads of inert particles (1.50, 3.00 and 4.50 kg) and a fixed static bed height (20.50 cm). Polyethylene particles of 4.38 mm of diameter and 930.50 ± 0.3 kg/m3 of specific mass were used as inert particles. An artificial neural network model was trained to predict the peak pressure drop and the minimum spout velocity from an experimental data bank. The experimental results showed a significant effect of geometric characteristics of the bed on fluidynamics parameters. It was also observed for the operating conditions that conical spouted bed and cone angle of 45° were more suitable for drying skimmed milk. The neural network provided predictions in good agreement with experimental data.

Extrahepatic right hepatic duct diverticulum: a rare entity

BACKGROUND:Douglas described choledochal cysts in 1852 and Todani proposed an anatomy-based classification in 1977. The classification is the most extensively used,but does not include some rare *** present a case of hepatic duct diverticulum,one of the variations,and discuss its diagnosis and treatment. METHODS:A 57-year-old woman presented with upper abdominal pain and discomfort associated with nausea and *** was finally diagnosed with cholelithiasis and right hepatic duct diverticulum. RESULT:The patient underwent resection of the hepatic duct diverticulum and cholecystectomy,and was asymptomatic 26 months after surgery. CONCLUSIONS:Hepatic duct diverticulum is a rare form of choledochal cyst,not included in Todani’s classification. Todani’s classification including this and other uncommon variations of choledochal cysts must be *** best diagnostic imaging methods and treatment for choledochal cysts must be defined.

Synthesis and structure of a praseodymium (Ⅲ) complex with carboxylate ligand：A thermal and spectroscopic study

One Pr（Ⅲ） lanthanide ion complex was initially synthesized and characterized by TGA-DSC in air atmosphere, as well as characterized by CHN elemental analysis, defining the stoichiometric ratio as Pr（DMBz）3. The gaseous products evolved during the thermal decomposition were also monitored in N2 atmosphere employing TGA/fT-IR system. A crystal structure is obtained by state-of-the-art powder X-rays diffraction methods measured in conventional laboratory equipment and refined by the Rietveld method, which defined it as a monoclinic system of the space group P21/C with a polymeric crystal structure, [Pr（DMBZ）3]n. fT-IR theoretical spectrum and time-dependent density functional theory（TD-DfT） were calculated from TGA-DSC and crystalline system data. The experimental and theoretical fT-IR spectra present a high correlation degree when the main stretching bands are compared, while the energy transfer（HOMO - LUMO） in their neighborhoods suggests the main contributions of the light-emitting states.

An Evolutionary Approach to the Delineation of functional Areas Based on Travel-to-work flows

This paper presents a new approach to the delineation of local labor markets based on evolutionary computation. The aim of the exercise is the division of a given territory into functional regions based on travel-to-work flows. Such regions are defined so that a high degree of inter-regional separation and of intra-regional integration in both cases in terms of commuting flows is guaranteed. Additional requirements include the absence of overlap between delineated regions and the exhaustive coverage of the whole territory. The procedure is based on the maximization of a fitness function that measures aggregate intra-region interaction under constraints of inter-region separation and minimum size. In the experimentation stage, two variations of the fitness function are used, and the process is also applied as a final stage for the optimization of the results from one of the most successful existing methods, which are used by the British authorities for the delineation of travel-to-work areas （TTWAs）. The empirical exercise is conducted using real data for a sufficiently large territory that is considered to be representative given the density and variety of travel-to-work patterns that it embraces. The paper includes the quantitative comparison with alternative traditional methods, the assessment of the performance of the set of operators which has been specifically designed to handle the regionalization problem and the evaluation of the convergence process. The robustness of the solutions, something crucial in a research and policy-making context, is also discussed in the paper.
