Industry decarbonization requires the development of highly efficient and flexible technologies relying on renewable energy resources,especially biomass and solar/wind *** the case of pure oxygen production,oxygen transport membranes(OTms)appear as an alternative technology for the cryogenic distillation of air,the industrially-established process of producing ***,OTms could provide oxygen from different sources(air,water,CO_(2),etc.),and they are more flexible in adapting to current processes,producing oxygen at 700^(-1)000℃.Furthermore,OTms can be integrated into catalytic membrane reactors,providing new pathways for different *** first part of this study was focused on electrification on a traditional OTm material(Ba_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Co_(0.8)Fe_(0.2)O_(3-δ)),imposing different electric currents/voltages along a capillary *** to the emerging Joule effect,the membrane-surface temperature and the associated O_(2) permeation flux could be ***,the OTm is electrically and locally heated and reaches 900℃on the surface,whereas the surrounding of the membrane was maintained at 650℃.The O_(2)permeation flux reached for the electrified membranes was~3.7 Nml min^(-1)cm^(-2),corresponding to the flux obtained with an OTm non-electrified at 900℃.The influence of depositing a porous Ce_(0.8)Tb_(0.2)O_(2-δ) catalytic/protective layer on the outer membrane surface revealed that lower surface temperatures(830℃)were detected at the same imposed electric ***,the electrification concept was demonstrated in a catalytic membrane reactor(CmR)where the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane(ODHE)was carried *** reaction is very sensitive to temperature,and here,we demonstrate an improvement of the ethylene yield by reaching moderate temperatures in the reaction chamber while the O_(2) injection into the reaction can be easily fine-tuned.

Contribution of the ear and the flag leaf to grainfilling in durum wheat inferred from the carbon isotope signature: Genotypic and growing conditions effects

The ear, together with the flag leaf, is believed to play a major role as a source of assim.lates during grain filling in C3cereals. However, the intrusive nature of most of the available methodologies prevents reaching conclusive results in this regard. This study compares the carbon isotope composition（d13C） in its natural abundance in the water‐soluble fractions of the flag leaf blade and the ear with the d13C of mature kernels to assess the relative contribution of both organs to grain filling in durum wheat（Triticum turgidum.l. ***）. The relative contribution of the ear was higher in landraces compared to modern cultivars, as well as in response to nitrogen fertilization and water stress. Such genotypic and environmentally driven differences were associated with changes in harvest index（HI）, with the relative contribution of the ear being negatively associated with HI. In the case of the genotypic differences, the lower relative contribution of the ear in modern cultivars compared with landraces is probably associated with the appearance in the former of a certain amount of source limitation driven by a higher HI. In fact, the relative contribution of the ear was far more responsive to changes in HI in modern cultivars compared with landraces.

The role of clinical diagnosis criteria on the frequency of accommodative insufficiency

AIm: To estimate and compare the frequency of accommodative insufficiency(AI) within the same clinical population sam.le depending on the type of clinical criteria used for diagnosis. Comparing the frequency within the same population would help to minimize bias due to sam.ling or methodological variability. mETHODS: Retrospective study of 205 medical records of symptomatic subjects free of any organic cause and symptoms persisting despite optical compensation evaluated. Based on the most commonly clinical diagnostics criteria found in the literature, four diagnostics criteria were established for AI(Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ) based on subjective accommodative tests: monocular accommodative am.litude two or more diopters below Hofstetter's minimum value [15-(0.25×age)](Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ); failing monocular accommodative facility with minus lens, establishing the cut-off in 0 cycles per minute(cpm)(Ⅰ) and in 6 cpm(Ⅱ, Ⅲ); failing binocular accommodative facility with minus lens, establishing the cut-off in 0 cpm(Ⅰ) and in 3 cpm(Ⅱ).RESUlTS: The proportion of AI(95%CⅠ) for criteria Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ were 1.95%(0.04%-3.86%), 2.93%(0.31%-4.57%), 6.34%(1.90%-7.85%) and 41.95%(35.14%-48.76%) respectively, with a statistically significant difference shown between these values(χ2=226.7, Pm.ltiple comparison revealed that the proportion of AI detected for criterion Ⅳ was significantly greater than the proportion for the rest of the criteria(P-adjustedll cases).CONClUSION: The prevalence of cases of AI within the same clinical population varies with the clinical diagnostic criteria selected. The variation is statistically significant when considering the monocular accommodative am.litude as the only clinical diagnostic sign.

Entropy Production Rate for Avascular Tumor Growth

The entropy production rate was determined for avascular tumor growth. The proposed form.la relates the fractal dimension of the tumor contour with the quotient between mitosis and apoptosis rate, which can be used to characterize the degree of proliferation of tumor cells. The entropy production rate was determined for fourteen tumor cell lines as a physical function of cancer robustness. The entropy production rate is a hallmark that allows us the possibility of prognosis of tumor proliferation and invasion capacities, key fac-tors to improve cancer therapy.

Recovery Slope of Heart Rate Variability as an Indicator of Internal Training load

The way in which the Root mean Square of the Successive Differences between adjacent RR intervals (RmSSD) recovers immediately after exercise could be a good indicator of internal training load (ITl). The aim of this study is to design a recovery index based on RmSSD. Forteen healthy men took part in this study. The experiment lasted 2 weeks, with 4 separate (48 - 72 h) sessions. First session was an incremental treadm.ll test to determine ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2) and maxim.l aerobic speed (mAS). Each subject ran at VT1 speed (second day), VT2 speed (third day) and a time-to-exhaustion test at mAS (fourth day). The duration of VT1 and VT2 loads was selected in such a way that the product intensity-duration (training load) was the same. HRV was measured from 10’ prior to test (Rest) to 30’ after com.leted (Recovery). Recovery slopes were calculated from RmSSD values at 10 and 30 minutes. Borg scale was recorded at the end of every test and the Training Impulse (TRImP) values were calculated using Banister equations. The RmSSD values dropped substantially regardless of the intensity and the duration of exercise (average 4 ms). The RmSSD recovery was linear during the 30 min and different depending on the intensity of exercise. To propose a recovery index, we calculated the slope of RmSDD over the 30 minutes (slope-30) and also the first 10 minutes (slope-10). Given that the slopes presented an exponential behavior in relation with effort intensity, three curves were obtained (average values, plus SD and minus SD) defining a nomogram. For practical application, we propose: 1) to measure RmSSD the last 5 minutes of exercise and any period of 5 minutes during the first 30 minutes recovery;2) to calculate the slope of RmSSD between exercise and recovery;3) to compare with the nomogram.

Oil production and mainte nance are essential issues in naturally fractured reservoirs because they are the largest and most productive on ***,they present early water and gas channeling but could be remediated by using foaming agents to control these phenomena through blocking channeling *** mexico these reservoirs have pressure up to 5,500 psi,high temperature up to 200℃,salinity up to400,000 ppm,and hardness up to 250,000 ppm;due to these thermodynamic conditions,there has been no available technology to form stable enough *** this work,a foaming supram.lecular surfactant with the capability to chelate Ca^(2+)ions is *** a result,surfactant monomers are bridged by captured Ca^(2+)cations leading to the formation of high-m.lecular-weight oligomers,which significantly increment the viscosity of the solution improving the foam stability,and since at this manner the Ca2+cations are no longer available to precipitate as components of solid salts,the foaming supram.lecular surfactant also performs as *** observations are explained through quantum theoretical *** foam is stable,effectively blocking the gas channels,whereas in presence of oil the foam is broken leading the oil to pass into the *** characteristic rheological properties of the foam allow its injection into the formation at a range of flow rates,foam qualities,and shear stress to achieve the flooding and the blocking of a variety of fractured carbonate formations,and the change of the wettability of the matrix,which is a desirable behavior in a huff and puff process,as reported in a previous publication about a successful pilot test of this foam.

The development and im.lementation of sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices are indispensable as alternatives to pesticide use and to keep populations of soil-borne plant pathogens at levels that do not affect crop *** present research evaluates the incidence of soil-borne phytopathogens on the pineapple variety mD-2,which was subjected to different treatments:Incorporation of Crotalaria juncea into the soil(organic amendment),application of dolomitic lime to soil(inorganic amendment),and the use of plastic m.lch covering the *** the crop cycle(15 months),the following variables were evaluated:plant height(cm),fruit weight(kg·plant^(−1)),crop yield(ton·ha^(−1)),the bud root disease incidence caused by Phytophthora nicotianae,number of soil phytoparasitic nematodes and colony-forming-units(CFUs)of soil fungi and *** results indicate that Crotalaria juncea treatment reduced the pathogen population(nematode and oomycetes)at levels that did not affect crop development,so that yield increased(18–20%).The incorporation of *** into the soil as an organic amendment favors the populations of fungi disease suppressors(Trichoderma-Aspergillus).The phytoparasitic nematodes(m.loidogyne sp.,Pratylenchus sp.,and mesocriconema sp.)and oomycetes(Phytophthora spp.,and Pythium spp.)showed a reduction of their population levels by effects of organic amendment(***).The plastic m.lch was also effective,probably due to the maintenance of optim.l condition to crop growth and weed ***,the dolomitic lime application had the poorest effect under the conditions of the study area on the variables *** described observations are characteristics of a system-based approach for the potential management of soil-borne pathogens of pineapple mD-2 in Veracruz,méxico.

Sustainable Potato Production in the mountain Area of Ecuador, an Approach to Increase Productivity with Sm.ll Scale Farmers

Ecuador potato crop is fam.ly based production system. Potato production has two roles in their economy, the first is providing food for their fam.lies and the second is a source of income for the household. However sm.ll scale farmers have limited access to local markets and most of the sales are through intermediates’ who purchase directly in the field at the lowest price possible. Potato production challenges for the sm.ll-scale farmers are among others availability of quality potato seed, direct sales, purchase of agrochemical inputs to maintain their crops and lack of education. In 2021, only 4% of potato farmers used certified seed. Potato yield is still low around 16.1 t·ha-1, in the last 10 years the total potato cultivated area was reduced by at least 50%. The farmers produce “Bokashi” and other organic fertilizer and these are effective to improve soil fertility and plant health. Homemade bio-pesticides reduce agrochemical pesticides. The Decision Support System (DSS) is a handheld device to control late blight, minimizes fungicide applications and improve fungicide rotation. In 2018 Candidatus liberibacter solanacearum (lso), the causal agent of zebra chip, and its vector, the potato psyllid Bactericera cockerelli, together created havoc for farmers and researchers. Promotion of early potato varieties INIAP—libertad is an alternative to lower the impact of this newest pest.
