Do non-target species visit feeders and water troughs targeting small game?A study from farmland Spain using camera-tra.ping

provision of food and water is a widespread tool implemented around the world for the benefit of game and other wildlife,but factors affecting the use of food and water by non-target species are poorly *** evaluated visits to feeders and water troughs by non-game species using camera-traps in two separate areas of *** and water troughs were either“protected”(when surrounded by more than 50%of shrubs/forest)or“open”(in the opposite case).A total of 18948 photos from 5344 camera-tra.ping days depicted animals,and 75 species were *** and water troughs were visited by target species(partridges and lagomorphs,55.3%of visits)and non-target species(44.7%of visits).Among the latter,corvids were themost common(46.1%of visits),followed by rodents(26.8%),other birds(23.6%,mainly passerines),columbids(1.9%),and other species at minor *** highest proportion of visiting days to feeders and water troughs was from corvids(0.173)followed by otherbirds(0.109)and rodents(0.083);the lowest proportion was recorded for columbids(0.016).Use intensity and visit frequency of water troughs tripled that recorded in feeders,and visits to open feeders/troughs were a.proximately twice those to protected *** summary:feeders and water troughs targeting small game species are also used regularly by non-target ones;they should be set close to cover to optimize their use by non-target species that are not competitors of target species(though corvids may visit them);water availability should be prioritized where drought periods are expected.

Olfactory ensheathing glia.promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system,including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor,one of the best neuroprotectants for axotomized retinal ganglion ***,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells from an established rat immortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived primary olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days,forming an *** axotomized retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,microglial anatomical activation was higher than after optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher after allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these *** different neuroprotective properties,different toxic effects,and different responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the importance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

Anchor Root Development: A World within Worlds

Many plant species develop shoot-borne adventitious roots(ARs)with specialized functions that contribute to plant adaptability by enhancing resource capture and stress *** Arabidopsis,as in many dicots,the postembryonic root system is primarily composed of lateral roots(LRs),which originate from the xylem pole pericycle cells through a.process that involves periodic oscillation in gene expression mediated by a β-carotenoidderived signal(Dickinson et al.,2019).Our understanding of the key molecular and signaling events regulating AR initiation has recently been obtained from studies in Arabidopsis,where ARs are formed on etiolated hypocotyls upon transfer to light(Lakehal et al.,2019)or from excised leaf explants(Zhang et al.,2019).Anchor roots(ANRs)are a type of AR that originate immediately below the root-hypocotyl junction in an auxindependent manner and that require a diapocarotenoid-derived signal(anchorene)to emerge(Jia et al.,2019).ANR primordia activation may represent a generic mechanism to compensate for the loss of the growth potential of the primary root(pR),as it is enhanced by mutations affecting pR growth,by whole-root excision or by nitrogen deficiency(Jia et al.,2019).A recent paper by Bai et al.(2020)provides direct evidence that a regulatory module involving the Ap2/ERF transcription factor ABSCISIC ACID INSENSITIVE 4(ABI4),the mitogen-activated protein kinases(MApKs)MpK3 and MpK6,and the phosphatase pp2C12 controls ANR emergence in Arabidopsis.

DNA metabarcoding the diet of podarcis lizards endemic to the Balearic Islands

In the last century,increasing knowledge about glial cells has revealed their importance in brain physiology and disease and an exciting potential target for new therapeutic interventions(Hernández et al.,2021).Ischemic stroke is the most common of all types of *** the second leading cause of disability and mortality,ischemic stroke is a serious socio-economic burden *** it has been strongly associated with aging,during 2020 COVID-19 emerged as a new risk factor for ischemic stroke in younger patients(Cagnazzo et al.,2021).The only therapy or intervention currently available for humans is early reperfusion after the onset of the first ***,due to the high risk of brain hemorrhage,these treatments are suitable for only a small percentage of ***,reperfusion does not prevent post-injury neurodegeneration,hence the importance of finding new therapeutic alternatives to ameliorate ischemic damage and improve post-stroke quality of life.

Does enhanced recovery after surgery programs improve clinical outcomes in liver cancer surgery?

Enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS)programs have been widely a.plied in liver surgery since the publication of the first ERAS guidelines in 2016 and the new recommendations in *** surgery is usually performed in oncological patients(liver metastasis,hepatocellular carcinoma,cholangiocarcinoma,etc.),but the real impact of liver surgery ERAS programs in oncological outcomes is not clearly *** advantages of ERAS programs are:ERAS decreases postoperative complication rates and has been demonstrated a clear relationship between complications and oncological outcomes;a better and faster posto-perative recovery should let oncologic teams begin chemotherapeutic regimens on time;prehabilitation and nutrition actions before surgery should also improve the performance status of the patients receiving ***,ERAS could be another way to improve our oncological *** will discuss the literature about liver surgery ERAS focusing on its oncological implications and future investigations projects.
