Volatilomic fingerprinting from edible *** some impact compounds behind its attractiveness

In recent years edible flowers emerged in gourmet cuisine,giving any dish the beauty of attractive colours,freshness,texture,and aromatic ***,they also constitute a potential source of phytochemical compounds ass.ciated with beneficial effects on human *** this work,the volatilomic fingerprinting of 4 different species of edible flowers[blue mallow(Malva sylvestris L.),pomegranate flower(Punica granatum L.),hibiscus(Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.),and nasturtium(Tropaeolum majus L.)]used in gourmet dishes,was established,and comparatively *** volatile metabolites were extracted by solid-phase microextraction in headspace mode and identified by gas.chromatography-mass spectrometry to understand the chemistry behind its attractiveness better.A total of 78 volatile metabolites,belonging to diverse chemical groups were *** mallow is mainly characterised by sesquiterpenoids(61.5%of the total volatile fraction),whereas in flowers from pomegranate,hibiscus,and nasturtium,terpenoids(56.6%),carbonyl compounds(88.0%)and organosulfur compounds(98.0%)are the dominant chemical groups,*** blue mallow flowers,τ-muurolene and valencene are the dominant volatiles,followed byα-cubebene andδ-*** flowers are rich in furfural and linalool,while the aldehydes 2-hexenal,hexanal and 2-octenal are dominant volatile metabolites in *** isothiocyanate,a potent antimicrobial agent,accounts for 98%of the total volatile fraction of nasturtium *** addition to flavour notes,some of the identified volatile metabolites present bioactive properties,which could be explored for application in the food,pharmaceutical and cosmetic *** volatile metabolites profiles.combined with unsupervised principal component analysis facilitated the differentiation of the edible flowers under investigation,revealing the most related volatile metabolites of each sample,which can be used as markers for the authentication of the

Multiple responses optimization in the development of a headspace gas.chromatography method for the determination of residual solvents in pharmaceuticals

An efficient generic static headspace gas.chromatography （Hs.c） method was developed, optimized and validated for the routine determination of several residual solvents （Rs） in drug substance, using a strategy with two sets of calibration. Dimethylsulfoxide （DMsO） was selected as the sample diluent and internal standards were used to minimize signal variations due to the preparative step. A gas.chroma- tograph from Agilent Model 6890 equipped with flame ionization detector （FID） and a DB-624 （30 m × 0.53 mm i.d., 3.00 μm film thickness） column was used. The inlet split ratio was 5：1. The influ- encing factors in the chromatographic separation of the analytes were determined through a fractional factorial experimental design. significant variables： the initial temperature （IT）, the final temperature （FT） of the oven and the carrier gas flow rate （F） were optimized using a central composite design. Response transformation and desirability function were applied to find out the optimal combination of the chromatographic variables to achieve an adequate resolution of the analytes and short analysis time. These conditions were 30 ℃ for IT, 158 ℃ for FT and 1.90 mL/min for F. The method was proven to be accurate, linear in a wide range and very sensitive for the analyzed solvents through a comprehensive validation according to the IcH guidelines.

Uncovering the uncertainty: Risk factors and clinical relevance of P1 lesions on small bowel capsule endoscopy of anemic patients

AIM To identify risk factors for P1 lesions on small bowel capsule endoscopy(s.cE) and to describe the natural history of anemic patients with s.ch type of *** One hundred patients were cons.cutively selected for a case-control analysis performed between 37 cases with P1 lesions and 63 controls with negative s.cE. Age, gender, comorbidities and regular medication were collected. Rebleeding, further investigational studies and death were also analyzed during the *** No significant differences on gender, median age or charlson index were found between groups. Although no differences were found on the use of proton pump inhibitors, acetylsalicylic acid, anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents, the use of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs(NsAID) was ass.ciated with a higher risk of P1 lesions(OR = 12.00, 95%cI: 1.38-104.1). From the 87 patients followed at our center, 39 were submitted to additional studies for investigation of iron-deficiency anemia(IDA), and this was significantly more common in those patients with no findings on s.cE(53.7% vs 30.3%, P = 0.033). A total of 29 patients had at least one rebleeding or IDA recurrence episode and 9 patients died of non-anemia related causes but no differences were found between cases and *** P1 lesions are commonly found in patients with IDA submitted to s.cE. The use of NsAID seems to be a risk factor for P1 lesions. The outcomes of patients with P1 lesions do not differ significantly from those with P0 lesions or normal s.cE.

High-pressure metamorphic rocks in the Borborema Province, Northeast Brazil: Reworking of Archean oceanic crust during proterozoic orogenies

We present the first evidence of Archean oceanic crust submitted to Proterozoic high-pressure(HP)metamorphism in the south American ***-Nd and Lu-Hf isotopic data combined with U-Pb geochronological data from the campo Grande area,Rio Grande do Norte domain,in the Northern Borborema Province,reflect a complex Archean(2.9 Ga and 2.6 Ga)and Paleoproterozoic(2.0 Ga)evolution,culminating in the Neoproterozoic Brasiliano/Pan-African orogeny(ca.600 Ma).The preserved mafic rocks.contain massive poikiloblastic garnet and granoblastic amphibole with variable proportions of plagioclase+diopside in symplectitic texture,typical of high-pressure *** clinopyroxene-garnet amphibolites and the more common garnet amphibolites from the campo Grande area are exposed as rare lenses within an Archean migmatite *** amphibolite lenses represent 2.65 Ga juvenile tholeiitic magmatism derived from depleted mantle sources(positive values of+3.81 to+30.66)later enriched by mantle metasomatism(negative εNd(t)values of-7.97).chondrite and Primitive Mantle-normalized REE of analyzed samples and discriminant diagrams define two different oceanic affinities,with E-MORB and OIB *** Eu anomalies(Eu/Eu*=0.75-0.95)indicate depletion of plagioclase in the *** zircon cores of 3.0-2.9 Ga in analyzed samples indicate that the Neoarchean tholeiitic magmatism was emplaced into 2923±14 Ma old Mesoarchean crust(εNd(t)--2.58 and Nd TDM=3.2 Ga)of the Rio Grande do Norte *** age of retro-eclogite facies metamorphism is not yet completely *** suggest that two high-grade metamorphic events are recognized in the mafic rocks:the first at 2.0 Ga,recorded in some samples,and the s.cond,at ca.600 Ma,stronger and more pervasive and recorded in several of the mafic rock *** Neoproterozoic zircon grains are found in symplectite texture as inclusions in the garnet grains and represent the age of HP conditions in the *** zircon grains show a

Maintaining nano-lamellar microstructure in friction stir welding (FsW) of accumulative roll bonded (ARB) cu-Nb nano-lamellar composites (NLc)

Accumulative roll bonded （ARB） copper Niobium （cu-Nb） nano-lamellar composite （NLc） panels were friction stir welded （FsWed） to evaluate the ability to join panels while retaining the nano-lamellar structure. During a single pass of the friction stir welding （FsW） process, the nano-lamellar structure of the parent material （PM） was retained but was observed to fragment into equiaxed grains during the s.cond pass. FsW has been modeled as a severe deformation process in which the material is subjected to an instantaneous high shear strain rate followed by extreme shear strains. The loss of the nano-lamellar layers was attributed to the increased strain and longer time at temperature resulting from the s.cond pass of the FsW process. Kinematic modeling was used to predict the global average shear strain and shear strain rates experienced by the ARB material during the FsW process. The results of this study indicate that through careful selection of FsW parameters, the nano-lamellar structure and its ass.ciated higher strength can be maintained using FsW to join ARB NLc panels.

Hepatocellular carcinoma and food contamination: Ochratoxin A as a great prompter

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a s.condary metabolite of Asper-gillus and Penicillium, microorganisms that can be haz-ardous to health when present as food contaminants. OTA is a potent member of a group of mycotoxins. Prolonged exposure to mycotoxins in the diet is related to cancer, among other diseases. Hepatocellular car-cinoma (Hcc) accounts for 70%-90% of primary liver cancers and is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. In a recent study, Ibrahim et al proposed a correlation between the incidence of Hcc and contamination with OTA. Analysis of OTA in serum samples showed that Hcc patients had the highest incidence of OTA of the subjects examined (5-fold higher than that of the control group). OTA levels were significantly increased in Hcc patients. This study demonstrates that chronic exposure to high levels of OTA may be ass.ciated with a high risk of liver cancer development. Future epidemiologic studies of Hcc should focus on good practices in food preparation, food storage and the consumption of OTA-containing foods.

The trend towards miniaturization has increased dramatically over the last decade, especially within the fields.concerned with bioengineering, microelectronics, and aerospace. Micromillin8 is among the principal manu- facturing processes which have allowed the development of components possessing micrometric dimensions, being used to the manufacture of both forming tools and the final product. The aim of this work is to present the principal aspects related to this technology, with emphasis on the work material requirements, tool ma- terials and geometry, cutting forces and temperature, quality of the finished product, process modelling and monitoring and machine tool requirements. It can be noticed that size effect possesses a relevant role with regard to the selection of both work material （grain size） and tooling （edge radius）. Low forces and temper- ature are recorded during micromillin8, however, the specific cutting force may reach high values because of the ploughing effect observed as the uncut chip thickness is reduced. Finally, burr formation is the principal concern with regard to the quality of the finished part.

Osteonecrosis of both knees in a woman with crohn's disease

Osteonecrosis is a very rare complication of crohn’s disease (cD). It is not clear if it is related to corticosteroid therapy or if it occurs as an extraintestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease. We present the case of a patient with cD who presented with osteonecrosis of both knees. A 22 years old woman was diagnosed with cD in April 2012 (Montreal classification A2L1 + L4B3p). she was started on prednisolone (40 mg/d), azathioprine (100 mg/d) and messalazine (3 g/d). In July 2012, due to active perianal disease, infliximab therapy was initiated. In september 2012, she had a pelvic abscess.complicated by peritonitis and an ileal segmental res.ction and right hemicolectomy were performed. In December 2012 she was diagnosed with bilateral septic arthritis of both knees with walking impairment. she was treated with amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, started a phys.cal rehabilitation program and progressively improved. However, then, bilateral knee pain exacerbated by movement developed. Magnetic resonance imaging showed multiple osseous medullary infarcts in the distal extremity of the femurs, proximal extremity of the tibiae and patellas and no signs of subchondral collapse, which is.consistent with osteonecrosis. The patient recovered completely and maintains therapy with azathioprine and messalazine. A review of the literature is also done.
