The campo rupestre sensu lato is a vegetation type that occurs in South American mountains,supports a distinctive flora characterized by high rates of endemism,high herbaceous species richness and often-neglected but also species-rich of the arboreal *** aimed to investigate how environmental factors and elevation are associated with the distribution and diversity of woody species in different rupestrian vegetation types across South *** a database of 2,049 woody species from 185 sites across four vegetation types within the campo rupestre,we assessed how the vegetation types were grouped according to their floristic composition and number of shared indicator species,as well as by using different beta diversity *** most important variables from a set of 27 variables(***,geo-edaphic and climatic)explaining species distribution were identified using redundancy analysis(RDA)and variation partitioning *** distribution of vegetation types was related to both environmental and spatial fractions,with a set of 17 variables retained(***,grass cover and temperature seasonality as the most important variables).There was an association between the floristic composition of each vegetation type and the elevation *** the identified vegetation types are floristically related,they are distinguished by exclusive and habitat-specialist woody *** uniqueness of vegetation types should be considered in terms of complementarity for the conservation of campos rupestres.

The purpose of this paper is to study the asymptotic behavior of the positive solutions of the problem tu- △u=au-b（x）up in Ω×R＋,u（0）=u0,u（t ）｜ Ω=0, as p→ ＋∞, where Ω is a bounded domain, and b（x） is a nonnegative function. The authors deduce that the limiting configuration solves a parabolic obstacle problem, and afterwards fully describe its long time behavior.

Ileal intussusception due to a parasite egg: A case report

Ileal intussusception is the invagination of the small intestine within itself and accounts for 1% of cases of acute obstruction. However, physicians do not initially consider intussusception as a possible diagnosis of obstruction due to its rarity in adults. Herein, we report the case of a 22-year-old male who was admitted to the Emergency Department with continuous abdominal pain. Ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed an ileal intussusception. The patient underwent surgical removal of the segment of the small bowel. Unexpectedly, pathology revealed that the invagination occurred due to a parasite egg, with features suggestive of Schistosoma species. Schistosomiasis, although considered a parasitic disease in tropical countries, is not absent from Europe and though it is highly improbable, it may be responsible for cases of intussusception in adults.

Medicinal plants from the Brazilian Amazonian region and their antileishmanial activity:a review

Leishmaniasis, a neglected disease caused by Leishmania protozoans, primarily affects people in tropical and subtropical areas. Chemotherapy based on the use of pentavalent antimonials, amphotericin B, paromomycin, miltefosine and liposomal amphotericin B is currently the only effective treatment. However, adverse effects, long-term treatment and the emergence of parasite resistance have led to the search for alternative treatments. Natural products used in traditional medicine provide an unlimited source of molecules for the identification of new drugs, and the Amazon region has abundant biodiversity that includes several species of plants and animals, providing a rich source of new products and com- pounds. Although the literature describes numerous promising compounds and extracts for combating Leishmania protozoans, the results of such research have not been embraced by the pharmaceutical industry for the development of new drugs. Therefore, this review focused on the antileishmanial activity of extracts, isolated compounds and essential oils commonly used by the local population in the Brazilian Amazonian region to treat several illnesses and described in the literature as promising compounds for combating leishmaniasis.

Fecal marker levels as predictors of need for endoscopic balloon dilation in Crohn's disease patients with anastomotic strictures

AIM To evaluate the accuracy and best cut-off value of fecal calprotectin(FC) and fecal lactoferrin(FL) to predict disease recurrence in asymptomatic patients presenting with anastomotic strictures. METHODS This was a longitudinal single tertiary center study based on prospectively collected data(recorded in a clinical database created for this purpose) performed between March 2010 and November 2014. Crohn's disease(CD) patients with anastomotic stricture who submitted to postoperative endoscopic evaluation were included. Stools were collected on the day before bowel cleaning for FC and FL. Endoscopic balloon dilation(EBD) was performed if the patient presented an anastomotic stricture not traversed by the colonoscope, regardless of patients' symptoms. Successful dilation was defined as passage of the colonoscope through the dilated stricture into the neotermimal *** recurrence was defined as a modified Rutgeerts score of ≥ i2 b. RESULTS In a total of 178 patients who underwent colonoscopy, 58 presented an anastomotic stricture, 86% were asymptomatic, and 48(54% male; median age of 46.5 years) were successfully dilated. Immediate success rate was 92% and no complications were recorded. FC and FL levels correlated significantly with endoscopic recurrence(P < 0.001) with an optimal cut-off value of 90.85 μg/g(sensitivity of 95.5%, specificity of 69.2%, positive predictive value(PPV) of 72.4%, negative predictive value(NPV) of 94.7% and accuracy of 81%] for FC and of 5.6 μg/g(sensitivity of 77.3%, specificity of 69.2%, PPV of 68%, NPV of 78.4% and accuracy of 72.9%) for *** Fecal markers are good predictors of CD endoscopic recurrence in patients with asymptomatic anastomotic stricture. FC and FL may guide the need for EBD in this context.

Endoscopic balloon dilation of crohn's disease stricturessafety,efficacy and clinical impact

AIM To evaluate the incidence of anastomotic strictures after intestinal resection in Crohn's disease(CD), demonstrate long-term efficacy and safety of endoscopic balloon dilation(EBD) in CD strictures and its impact on the diagnosis of subclinical postoperative endoscopic recurrence. METHODS Retrospective single tertiary center study based on prospectively collected data between 2010 and 2015including anastomotic and non-anastomotic strictures. RESULTS29% of 162 CD patients included developed an anastomotic stricture. 43 patients with anastomotic strictures and 37 with non-anastomotic strictures underwent EBD; technical success was 97.7% and 100%, respectively, however, 63% and 41% needed repeat dilation during the 4.4-year follow-up. Longer periods between surgery and index colonoscopy and higher lactoferrin levels were associated with the presence of stricture after surgery. Calprotectin levels > 83.35 μg/g and current or past history of smoking were associated with a shorter time until need for dilation(HR = 3.877, 95%CI: 1.480-10.152 and HR = 3.041, 95%CI: 1.213-7.627). Anastomotic strictures had a greater need for repeat dilation(63% vs 41%, P = 0.047). No differences were found between asymptomatic and symptomatic cohorts. Disease recurrence diagnosis was only possible after EBD in a third of patients. CONCLUSION EBD is an effective and safe alternative to surgery, with a good short and long-term outcome, postponing or even avoiding further surgery. EBD may allow to diagnose disease recurrence in patients with no clinical signs/biomarkers of disease activity.

This research investigates the soil conditioning effect of sugar cane fields with biochar produced from sugarcane *** influence on the physicochemical and microbiological conditions of the soil and the agronomic performance of sugarcane seedlings was *** this end,the biochar from sugarcane bagasse was produced by pyrolysis in a double drum oven and mixed with soil at rates of 0,1%,3%,and 5%(in weight).The experiment was installed in a greenhouse with two evaluation periods(30 days and 60 days)and five *** pot received a pre-sprouted cane seedling,and the analysis of colony-forming units(bacteria and fungi),physicochemical characteristics of the soil,and growth and development of sugarcane were performed per *** biochar showed a high fixed carbon content(72%)and a specific surface area estimated by the adsorption of methylene blue of 50 m2 g−***,its structure is porous and contains important nutrients(e.g.,CaO,K2O,and P2O5).In the periods evaluated,the applications of the 3%and 5%(in weight)rates of biochar reduced most of the soil fertility ***,the chemical analyses indicated that the sugarcane field soil collected already possessed high *** microbiota was influenced,but only the application of the 3%(in weight)rate at 60 days after planting showed a significant positive effect on the number of bacteria forming units,with an increase of approximately 385%.On the other hand,no significant positive effect on sugarcane development was ***,biochar application in high-fertility sugarcane plantation soil did not result in gains for sugarcane development in the periods evaluated.

Investigation of the Grain Growth Evolution in the AISI 304H Austenitic Stainless Steel

The austenitic stainless steels usually present an excellent combination of corrosion resistance and mechanical properties such as ductility in the annealed condition and high yield strength after cold deformation. Solution annealing in the AISI 304H is recommended before deformation process in order to improve ductility. However, long annealing during solution annealing can cause GG （grain growth） or AGG （abnormal grain growth） in the AISI 304H. In these cases, ductility is strongly decreased. Therefore, GG or AGG must be avoided during solution annealing. In this article, grain growth during solution annealing of the AISI 304H samples was determined. Samples of the AISI 304H were annealed at 1,100 ℃ for solution-annealing times varying from 15 min to 180 min. The results show that AGG took place for samples annealed at 1,100 ℃ for 30 min. In this condition, grain size reached 70 ± 10 μm. After annealing solution at 1,100 ℃ for 180 min, grain size reached 120 ~ 20 μm. In summary, the results shown that solution annealing at 1,100 ℃ even for relatively short annealing promotes the prompt increase of the grain size.

How Do I Care for My Patients with...？

Introduction： Physicians want to know how they care for their patients. However, it can be challenging to describe the quality of their work. A basic question to ask would be： How do I care for my patients with a certain health condition？ The authors wanted to find out whether they can answer this question for their patients suffering from osteoporosis with the support of their EHR （electronic health record）. Materials and methods： Postmenopausal women having experienced a fracture were identified from the EHR. At the same time, criteria to assess the quality of care were defined following current guidelines. As it emerged that the EHR was unsuitable to fulfill the authors＇ purpose, the free software package ＂Epi Info 7＂ was used to create a template for data entry and analysis. Results： Of the 41 female patients identified with possible osteoporotic fractures, as many as 90% （37 patients） did not have any bone-density measurements recorded despite 39% （16 patients） had been given a diagnosis of osteoporosis. Of the 16 patients with recorded osteoporosis, only two were prescribed antiosteoporotic medication. The EHR was largely inadequate to answer the question. Conclusion：＂How do I care for mypatients with...？＂ is a difficult question to answer when relying on conventional EHR. The resulting answer is worrying and opens up a lot of room for improvement on behalf of the EHR and the quality of care provided.
