Objective: To assess levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system LNG-IUS (Mirena?) application at caesarean section (CS). Design: randomized, comparative study. Setting: Department of obstetrics and gynecology in a primary reference hospital at Puebla City, Mexico. Sample: 396 women requiring CS signed informed consent and were randomly allocated to the post-placental application of LNG-IUS (198) or Copper T 380 A (198). Methods: Follow up visits at 6 weeks, and 6 and 12 months were performed. Main Outcomes Measures: IUDs expulsion, maternal and babies’ health conditions, breastfeeding and menstrual patterns, adverse effects and pregnancies. Differences between groups were analyzed by Fisher and X2 tests, Odds ratios, relative risk and 95% confidence limits, as appropriate. results: After one year of follow up, no pregnancies were reported. The IUD expulsion rate was 4.5% in each group. LNG-IUS users had a higher incidence of amenorrhea (Or 2.5 95% CI 2.2 - 3) and menstrual patterns significantly brief and lighter than Copper T 380 A (p r incidence of dysmenorrhea (Or 0.1 95% CI 0.04 - 0.2). No detrimental effects of LNG-IUS on breastfeeding was observed and interestingly babies weights of LNG-IUS users was slightly above the average for age compared with Copper T 380 A users. This was probably related with a major proportion of women with normal ferritin serum levels (94% vs 68%) leading to better mother’s general condition. Conclusions: LNG-IUS inserted during CS provides high efficacy contraception with additional benefits, mainly reducing menstrual bleeding and doing so, faster recovery of ferrous homeostasis after CS.

Lactate is an anaerobic metabolite produced in the absence of an adequate O2 supply. Although for a long time considered to be a waste product of glycolysis resulting from hypoxia, lactate is, in fact, an important source of glucose and also a gluconeogenic precursor, having a role in metabolic and endocrine signaling. Lactate is produced by adipocytes and muscle cells. Objectives: In this study, we investigated the sex differences in lactate production by adipocytes isolated from lean human visceral adipose tissue. Main Methods: The experiments described were done using adipocytes isolated from adipose tissue of lean men and women. Adipocytes were isolated following rodbell procedure, with modifications, for posterior analysis of glycerol and lactate production. results: Morphometric analysis revealed no significant differences in the size of adipocytes from men and women (diameter: men: 172 ± 24 μm vs. women: 160 ± 16 μm, n = 4 and 10, respectively). Basal glycerol production was significantly higher in adipocytes from men compared to women (0.34 ± 0.06 vs. 0.16 ± 0.01 μmol/106 cells/60 min;mean ± SEM, n = 7 and 4, respectively;p re was no significant difference in basal lactate production (men: 0.1 ± 0.01 μmol/10 cells/60 min vs. women: 0.12 ± 0.02 μmol/10 cells/60 min). However, when stimulated by norepinephrine, adipocytes from women produced more lactate than adipocytes from men. Female adipocytes also produced as much lactate as glycerol, whereas male adipocytes produced three times more glycerol than lactate. The intracellular mechanisms responsible for this sex difference in lactate production during norepinephrine-stimulated lipolysis remain to be identified.

Spinal dermoid cysts are gradually progressive benign tumors that may be congenital or acquired. They account for 0.8% to 1.1% of all primary spinal tumors. MrI is the gold standard for the radiological assessment. Management is difficult for tumors involving highly eloquent areas such as the conus medullaris. In this report, we present a rare case of an adult woman with dermoid cysts in the conus medullaris associated with a sacral meningocele which was treated with a midline myelotomy that drained yellowish keratinous fluid and decompressed the cyst. No aggressive attempt at complete resection of the cyst wall was undertaken. The patient fully recovered, and her condition considerably improved after surgery and remains good at a 6-month follow-up.

Separation of refined soybean oil/n-hexane miscellas was studied using different commercial ultra- and nanofiltration membranes, with cut-oil＇s in the range of 1 to 5 kDa and salt rejection higher than 97% （MgSO4）. Commercial soybean oil and n-hexane miscellas with 1：3 and 1：1 mass ratios were permeated in a dead-end module. The effects of the feed pressure （2-25 bar） on oil and n-hexane fluxes and rejection were investigated. Oil rejection ranged from negative values to 30.8%, soybean oil flux from 28.9 to 617.8 g/m2 hl and n-hexane flux from 8.5 to 1,078.5 g m2 hl. Membrane fouling was observed at all experimental conditions studied. The membrane separation process has proven to be a promising alternative to solvent recovery in soybean oil extraction.

Tubuliform silk glands were dissected from Nephila clavipes spiders,and silk gut fibers were produced by immersing the glands in a mild acid solution and subsequent *** tensile properties of the as produced fibers were obtained through tensile tests,and the stress–strain curves were compared with those of naturally spun tubuliform silk *** influence on the mechanical properties of the fibers after immersion in water and drying was also *** microstructure of the silk guts was obtained by X-ray diffraction(XrD) and infrared spectroscopy(FTIr).It was found that the stress–strain curves of the stretched tubuliform silk guts concur with those of their natural counterparts(tubuliform silk fibers).

Maize is the main crop for Mexicans;however, it is affected by species of fungi causing ear rot. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of T. asperellum T11, T. harzianum T1 4 y T. longibrachiatum T1 40 on some agronomic variables of four maize genotypes. The seeds of the genotypes H-515, Zapata 7, and H-507 were treated with a suspension of Trichoderma spp. to 1 × 108 spores mL-1, using a control (untreated seed), and Benomyl as chemical control. The planting was in Morelos, in a completely random block design with a factorial arrangement. The ear rot was natural. Data were obtained at the end of the crop cycle and processed in SAS 9.4®. H-515 genotype had the greatest effect on the treatment of maize seeds with Trichoderma spp. (5.562 kg);T. asperellum T11 was the strain that stood out with a mean yield of 50 ears in an area of 16 m2 of 4.904 kg, and control of 4.448 kg. Our results are an economic option for farmers to contemplate the use of Trichoderma and obtain its benefits.

AIM： To evaluate choroidal thickness, medium choroidal vessel thickness（MCvT） and large choroidal vessel thickness（LCvT） in normal children and adult ***： Manual measurements of subfoveal choroidal thickness（SFCT）, MCvT and LCvT at subfoveal and 750 μm nasal and temporal to fovea locations were completed on enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography（EDI-OCT） scans of normal children and adult ***： Fifty adult and fifty-seven child subjects were included in the study（including 80 adult and 103 child eyes）. Mean（±SD） SFCT of adult and children eyes in the study was 309.3±95.7 μm and 279.3±50.4 μm respectively. SFCT and subfoveal MCvT in adult eyes were significantly more than children（P=0.01 and P≤0.0001 respectively）.CONCLUSION： There is choroidal thickening with associated thickening of medium choroidal vessels in adults, suggesting that there is alteration in choroidal vasculature with ageing.

This paper considers a class of variational inequalities that model the buckling of a von Karman plate clamped on a part of its boundary and lying on a fiat rigid support. The existence and bifurcation results of D. Goeleven, v. H. Nguyen and M. Thera[6] rely on the Leray- Schauder degree. Using the topological degree for pseudo-monotone operators of type (S+), the author establishes a more general existence result for such unilateral eigenvalue problems.

Background: A cross-sectional study combining different serological and molecular techniques for the detection of Ehrlichia canis in dogs was carried out to determine hemopathological findings and suggestive clinical signs associated with acute, subclinical and chronic infections in the dog population of Costa rica. Objectives: The present study describes and analyzes, in a more representative sampling frame, the clinical and hematological presentation of E. canis infection in dogs of Costa rica in all its clinical stages. Methods: A descriptive analysis of the clinical signs was performed from a 441-dog sample. Serological and molecular techniques for the detection of Ehrlichia canis in dogs were applied. One and two-way ANOvA were carried out to determine the effect of the infection status on the hematological parameters. results: A total of 0.7% (3/407) dogs were found with acute (seronegative but PCr positive), 29.7% (121/407) with subclinical (seropositive and PCr negative), and 2.5% (10/407) with chronic (seropositive and PCr positive) E. canis infections. Significant hemopathological findings were determined in dogs with acute (thrombocytosis), subclinical and chronic (anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia) E. canis infections. Conclusions: Future studies must determine if dogs with subclinical E. canis infections eliminated the agent without any medication, or if they continue to be persistently infected, and will develop the chronic disease at some point in their lives.
