Natural forests and stands subjected to little to moderate human impact are continuously declining worldwide and with these,their biodiversity and ecosystem *** Nothofagus forests in the south of the South American continent are in a pristine state or only moderately impacted by *** grazing by livestock,in the past and still today often practiced in a non-sustainable way is,however,increasingly under discussion to meet current environmental and socio-economic ***,we investigate the regeneration of Nothofagus dombeyi,a keystone species of the Patagonian Andes,in secondary forests in Argentinian northern Patagonia,particularly addressing the role of disturbance through grazing by livestock at various *** test the hypothesis that the regeneration of this tree species is favored by grazing impact and,thus,disturbance of the herb layer and soil *** support of our hypothesis,Nothofagus dombeyi regeneration was significantly higher in terms of individuals and height classes in moderately grazed *** analysis shows significant positive effects of moderate grazing pressure,herb layer cover,and the occurrence of bare soil on the regeneration of Nothofagus *** results show that an integration of livestock grazing and forest regeneration is possible and that agroforestry systems can be an adequate management option for stakeholders in the region.A grazing management can also be part of a forest fire prevention ***,the regeneration success and grazing pressure should be continuously monitored.

Objective:To communicate the presence of adult females,rabditoid larvae and eggs of Strongyloides stercoralis(***)in the respiratory secretions obtained by tracheal aspirate from a HIV-negative patient who was suffering from polymyositis,and treated with corticoids and amethopterin and assisted by ***:The respiratory secretions submitted to the Parasitology Laboratory of the Mu(?)iz Hospital were made more concentrated by centrifugation(1 500 r/min for 15 seconds).Wet mount microscopy was performed with the ***:It revealed adult females,rabditoid larvae and eggs of *** parasitological studies performed after the start of the treatment with ivermectin on fresh fecal samples,gastric lavages and tracheal aspirates showed scanty mobile filariform and rabditoid larvae of the same ***:The presence of adult female *** which has never been observed before in the clinical samples submitted to our Laboratory for investigation can be considered as an indirect marker of the severe immunosupression of the patient.

This paper communicates the presence of aberrant microscopic forms of Histoplasma capsulatum in a sample obtained by scrapping of the skin lesion and stained with a rapid modification of the Grocott *** AIDS patient was treated with cream contained corticoids and antifungal and antibacterial antibiotics by an erroneous *** the etiologic diagnosis was achieved,oral itraconazol was administrated at the daily dose of 400 mg during at least six *** non habitual forms described in the literature as " aberrant variants", can be interpreted as an "adaptive phenomenon" of this termodimorphic fungal specie,as response of the ecologic alterations produced by antibiotic on the local antagonic bacterial microbiota,the deleterous activity of antifungal on the fungal cells and the local inmunodepression produced by the corticoids.

Giemsa and Grocott in the recognition of Histoplasma capsulatum in blood smears

Objective:To facilitate the recognition of intracellular yeasts of Histoplasma capsulation and differentiate it from Leishmania amastigotes and other parasites,using the combination of Giemsa and a rapid modification of Grocott stains to peripheral blood smears in a hematological ***:The combination of both stains was applied consecutively(first Grocott and then Giemsa)to previously fixed peripheral blood *** was performed with 400x and 1000x,the latter using immersion ***:The yeasts of Histoplasma capsulatum were observed into the cytoplasm of leukocytes as brownish oval elements,with 3-4μm in ***:The combination of both techniques is a simple and fast method to facilitate recognition of intracellular yeasts and it is different from intracellular parasitic ***,it allows distinguishing the cell elements that are in the microscopic *** may be very helpful in those cases in which the presumptive diagnosis of histoplasmosis has not been established yet and where other more sophisticated methods are not available.

Over recent decades,heritage conservation has developed in concept and *** paper uses a systematic literature review approach to collect charters and documents on heritage conservation issued by UNESCO and ICOMOS,divided into two periods,before 2000 and from 2000 to the present,for analysis from a qualitative *** study results show that the scope of architectural heritage is expanding,and the definition of conservation is changing from individual to holistic conservation and from holistic to sustainable *** focus of conservation has evolved from tangible to intangible *** changing scale of conservation,from object to landscape,incorporates a more comprehensive range of heritage values,and the status of conservation has changed from static to living *** study systematically structures the development of the concept of architectural heritage conservation,providing insight in the international field of architectural heritage conservation and encouraging reflection on the conservation of architectural heritage in historic cities.

A case of pulmonary coinfection by Strongyloides stercoralis and Pneumocystis jiroveci has been detected in an AIDS patient treated in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit of the Muniz *** diagnosis,the patient presented cough with mucopurulent expectoration,dyspnea,fever,bilateral pulmonary infiltrates on the chest X-ray,negative bacilloscopy for acid fast bacteria and a CD4^+ T lymphocytes count of 52 cells/μ *** microbiological diagnosis was achieved by microscopic observation of the respiratory secretions obtained by bronchoalveolar lavage,while the wet mount examination revealed rhabditiform and filariform larvae of the nematode and foamy exudates,pathognomonic of the pulmonary *** was the unique case of this association among about 3 000 samples performed in our laboratory in the last 10 years and diagnosed by *** complementary stains(a rapid modification of Grocott,Kinyoun and Giemsa) were applied to the smears after the diagnosis of mycotic and parasitary infections achieved by fresh *** physicians and microbiologists should take into account the possible coexistence of respiratory pathogens in immunocompromised patients,such as those with AIDS.
