The arsenic rem.val efficiency of iron-m.dified activated carbons depends greatly on the num.er of available iron oxide surface sites, which are given by the surface area of the anchored particles. In this sense, aim.ng the generation of an adsorbent with superior arsenic adsorption capacity, we developed a protocol to anchor interconnected fibrils of iron oxyhydroxides, using m.^(2+) as a m.rphology regulator. The protocol was based on a m.crowave-assisted hydrotherm.l m.thod, using bitum.nous based activated carbon and both Fe^(2+) and m.^(2+) ions in the hydrolysis solution. The elem.ntal analysis of m.dified carbons revealed that m. does not anchor to the carbon. However, when m. is included in the hydrolysis solution, the iron content in the activated carbon increased up to 3.5 wt%,without considerable decreasing the adsorbent surface area. Under specific hydrotherm.l conditions, the m.^(2+) prom.ted the form.tion of iron oxide nanoparticles shaped as interconnected fibrils. This m.terial showed a superior arsenic adsorption capacity in com.arison to sim.lar iron m.dified activated carbons(5 m. As/g carbon, at 2 m. As/L),attributed to the increase in quantity and availability of active sites located on the novel interconnected fibrils of iron oxyhydroxides nanostructures.

Indaziflam.is a preem.rgent herbicide widely used for the control of weeds in pecan(Carya illinoinensis)orchards in the southwestern region of the United *** the paucity of data regarding the effect of indaziflam.on the biochem.cal properties of soils supporting pecan production,this study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different application rates of indaziflam.on soil m.crobial activity,diversity,and biochem.cal processes related to nitrogen(N)*** two consecutive growing seasons(2015 and 2016),soil sam.les were obtained from.experim.ntal m.socosm. consisting of soil-filled pots where pecan saplings were grown and treated with indaziflam.applied at two different rates(25 and 50 g active ingredient(ai)ha^(-1),with the higher rate being slightly lower than the recom.ended field application rate of 73.1 g ai ha^(-1)).Soil sam.les were collected approxim.tely one week before and one week after herbicide application for determ.nation of soil m.crobial biom.ss and diversity,N m.neralization,andβ-glucosam.nidase *** sam.les collected from.the control m.socosm. without herbicide application were treated in the laboratory with two rates of indaziflam.75 and 150 g ai ha^(-1))to determ.ne the im.ediate effect on m.crobial *** significant effect of herbicide treatm.nt on soil respiration and m.crobial biom.ss was *** results showed a slight to m.derate decrease in m.crobial diversity(7%in 2015 and 44%in 2016).However,decreasedβ-glucosam.nidase activity with herbicide treatm.nt was observed in soils from.the m.socosm.(33%)and soils treated with indaziflam.in the laboratory(45%).The m.neral N pool was generally dom.nated by am.onium.after indaziflam.application,which was consistent with the drastic decrease(75%)in nitrification activity m.asured in the laboratory *** results of this study indicate that indaziflam.even when applied at higher than recom.ended rates,has lim.ted effects on soil m.crobial activity,but

Soil salinity is a growing problem.around the world with special relevance in farm.ands. The ability to sense and respond to environm.ntal stim.li is am.ng the m.st fundam.ntal processes that enable plants to survive. At the cellular level, the Salt Overly Sensitive （SOS） signaling pathway that com.rises SOS3, SOS2, and SOS1 has been proposed to m.diate cellular signaling under salt stress, to m.intain ion hom.ostasis. Less well known is how cellularly heterog- enous organs couple the salt signals to hom.ostasis m.intenance of different types of cells and to appropriate growth of the entire organ and plant. Recent evidence strongly indicates that different regulatory m.chanism. are adopted by roots and shoots in response to salt stress. Several reports have stated that, in roots, the SOS proteins m.y have novel roles in addition to their functions in sodium.hom.ostasis. SOS3 plays a critical role in plastic developm.nt of lateral roots through m.dulation of auxin gradients and m.xim. in roots under m.ld salt conditions. The SOS proteins also play a role in the dynam.cs of cytoskeleton under stress. These results im.ly a high com.lexity of the regulatory networks involved in plant response to salinity. This review focuses on the em.rging com.lexity of the SOS signaling and SOS protein functions, and highlights recent understanding on how the SOS proteins contribute to different responses to salt stress besides ion hom.ostasis.

In aerospace m.cro-Electro m.chanical System. （m.m.）, the characteristic length scale of the flow approaches the m.lecular m.an free path, thus invalidating the continuum.description and enforcing the use of particle m.thods, like the Direct Sim.lation m.nte Carlo （DSm.）, to deal with the non-equilibrium.regions. Within the slip-regim. （0.01〈Kn〈-0.1） both approaches, continuum.and particle-based, seem.to behave well in term. of accuracy. The present study sum.arizes the im.lem.ntation and results obtained with a 2nO-order slip boundary condition in a Navier-Stokes solver to address the rarefaction near the nozzle walls. Its assessm.nt and application to a cold-gas m.cro-scale conical nozzle of 300μm.throat diam.ter, discharging into the low-pressure freestream. constitutes the m.jor aim.of the work. The slip-m.del incorporates the velocity slip with therm.l creep and tem.erature jum., thus perm.tting to deal with non-isotherm.l flows as well. Results show that the gas experiences an intense rarefaction in the lip vicinity, pointing to the lim.ts of m.del validity. Furtherm.re, a strong m.ch deceleration is observed, attributed to the rather thick subsonic boundary layer and supersonic bulk heating caused by the viscous dissipation, in contrast with the expansion to occur in large rocket nozzles during underexpanded operation.

Postoperative com.lications represent a basic quality indicator for m.asuring outcom.s at surgical units. At present, however, they are not system.tically m.asured in all surgical procedures. A m.re accurate assessm.nt of their im.act could help to evaluate the real m.rbidity associated with different surgical interventions, establish m.asures for im.rovem.nt, increase efficiency and identify benchm.rking services. The Clavien-Dindo Classification is the m.st widely used system.worldwide for assessing postoperative ***, the postoperative period is sum.arized by the m.st serious com.lication without taking into account others of lesser m.gnitude. Recently,two new scoring system. have em.rged, the Com.rehensive Com.lication Index and the Com.lication Severity Score, which include all postoperative com.lications and quantify them.from.0(no com.lications) to 100(patient’s death), These allow the com.arison of results. It is im.ortant to train surgical staff to report and classify com.lications and to record 90-d m.rbidity rates in all patients. Com.arisons with other services m.st take into account patient com.rbidities and the com.lexity of the particular surgical procedure. To avoid subjectivity and bias, external audits are necessary. In addition, ensuring transparency in the reporting of the results is an urgent obligation.
