The high penetration of distributed generation(DG)has set up a challenge for energy management and consequently for the monitoring and assessment of power quality(PQ).Besides,there are new types of disturbances owing to the uncontrolled connections of non-linear loads.The stochastic behaviour triggers the need for new holistic indicators which also deal with big data of PQ in terms of compression and scalability so as to extract the useful information regarding different network states and the prevailing PQ disturbances for future risk assessment and energy management systems.Permanent and continuous monitoring would guarantee the report to claim for damages and to assess the risk of PQ distortions.In this context,we propose a measurement method that postulates the use of two-dimensional(2D)diagrams based on higher-order statistics(HOSs)and a previous voltage quality index that assesses the voltage supply waveform in a continous monitoring campaign.Being suitable for both PQ and reliability applications,the results conclude that the inclusion of HOS measurements in the industrial metrological reports helps characterize the deviations of the voltage supply waveform,extracting the individual customers’pattern fingerprint,and compressing the data from both time and spatial aspects.The method allows a continuous and robust performance needed in the SG framework.Consequently,the method can be used by an average consumer as a probabilistic method to assess the risk of PQ deviations in site characterization.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the commonestcancers with high morbidity and mortality in the world.How to realize precise diagnosis and therapy of GC ownsgreat clinical requirement. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been actively explored to apply to earlydiagnosis and treatment and prognosis of gastric carcinoma. Herein, we review recent advance of AI in earlyscreening, diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of stomachcarcinoma. Especially AI combined with breath screeningearly GC system improved 97.4 % of early GC diagnosisratio, AI model on stomach cancer diagnosis system of salivabiomarkers obtained an overall accuracy of 97.18 %, speci-ficity of 97.44 %, and sensitivity of 96.88 %. We also discussconcept, issues, approaches and challenges of AI applied instomach cancer. This review provides a comprehensive viewand roadmap for readers working in this field, with the aimof pushing application of AI in theranostics of stomachcancer to increase the early discovery ratio and curativeratio of GC patients.

Testosterone secretion may regulate the reproductive effort and the development of sexual traits,but it may also involve costs at the immunological and metabolic levels.However,the evidence for this trade-off in wild populations is scarce.Cortisol also plays an important role in mediating the reproductive and immune functions.In this study,we analyzed whether the endoparasite burden relates to hormonal levels(fecal testosterone and cortisol metabolites)and/or morphological sexual traits(size of the dark ventral patch,a trait that indicates reproductive effort in males)in male Iberian red deer.For this purpose,we sampled male red deer harvested during hunting actions in 2 types of populations in south western Spain that differed in structure,affecting the level of male–male competition for mates.We used coprological analyses to estimate the parasite burden mainly of gastrointestinal and bronchopulmonary nematodes and of protozoa,and assessed testosterone and cortisol metabolite levels from fecal pellets.We found a positive relationship of host parasitation with both testosterone levels and the size of the dark ventral patch,but these relationships depended on the intensity of male–male competition in the population,being only found under the high-competition scenario.These results are discussed under the hypothesis of the testosterone immunocompetence handicap,suggesting a cost at the immunological level,and,therefore,higher susceptibility to parasite infection in males that make a greater reproductive effort.However,this effect seems to be modulated by the social environment(male–male competition)that might lead to different optima in testosterone production and sexual trait development.

Altitudinal seasonality as a potential driver of morphological diversification in rear-edge bird populations

Populations at the low latitude limits of a species range(rear-edge populations)are often considered more vulnerable to climate change.However,their ability to track different environmental settings at a regional scale has been widely overlooked,although this may be relevant to accurately assess their adaptive capacity to cope with ongoing changes.Here we tested whether the endemic African Chaffinch(Fringilla coelebs africana)tracks environmental changes(e.***.decreasing temperatures,snow cover)by rearranging their numbers between seasons(spring vs.winter)along the altitude gradients of its northwestern African range.We additionally tested whether these seasonal changes in abundance were paralleled by morphological variation,suggesting a process of population diversification.We assessed African Chaffinch abundance in tree covered farmland and woodland sites distributed along an altitude gradient in spring and winter.In addition,we captured and measured chaffinches within the study gradient to explore the patterns of morphological variation.Our results showed that chaffinches shifted to lowlands from snow covered highlands during winter.In addition,highland individuals showed longer and more concave wings than their lowland counterparts.These morphological traits are usually related to flight efficiency in migratory birds,which suggest the presence of altitudinal movements aimed to track the environmental seasonality caused by orography.These results suggest a potential role of altitudinal seasonality as a driver of regional diversification within the African Chaffinch populations,which could be occurring in other North African avian species given their relatively high endemicity in the region.The evolutionary and conservation implications of these displacements have been often overlooked despite they can shape the adaptive capacity of rear-edge bird populations to face the ongoing environmental changes in this peripheral area of the Palearctic.

Periungual Capillaroscopy Findings in a Series of Patients with Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis(Wegener):An Observational Study

Introduction: Periungual capillaroscopy studies skin microcirculation. Its main indication is in the differential diagnosis of Raynaud’s phenomenon as well as diagnosis and prognosis of systemic sclerosis (SS). Many rheumatic diseases present characteristic capillaroscopic alterations, but little is known at present about the alterations in skin microcirculation of systemic vasculitis. Objective: Our main objective was to study the alterations in skin microcirculation by capillaroscopy in patients with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA). The secondary objective was to evaluate the association of capillaroscopic alterations with systemic alteration. Material and Methods: We studied patients in our unit with GPA, and we collected demographic and clinical variables. Periungual capillaroscopy was performed on all patients, and always by the same investigator. Results: We reviewed 10 patients with a mean age of 55.7. They were predominantly women. We found capillaroscopic alterations in 8 of the 10 patients. Morphological alteration was the most common finding (62.5%), followed by bleeding (50%). We found no mega-capillaries or neovessels. These findings were not related to any specific organ system involvement. Discussion: The tortuous pattern with bleeding was predominant in our series, with lower capillary density, findings which were unrelated to any specific organ system involvement. A single study describes capillaroscopic alterations in GPA, detecting a high percentage (92%) of avascular areas, in contrast with the predominance of a twisting pattern and bleeding found in our study. Further studies are warranted to confirm these results.

Rice University Rule to determine the Number of Bins

This study aims to establish a rationale for the Rice University rule in determining the number of bins in a histogram. It is grounded in the Scott and Freedman-Diaconis rules. Additionally, the accuracy of the empirical histogram in reproducing the shape of the distribution is assessed with respect to three factors: the rule for determining the number of bins (square root, Sturges, Doane, Scott, Freedman-Diaconis, and Rice University), sample size, and distribution type. Three measures are utilized: the average distance between empirical and theoretical histograms, the level of recognition by an expert judge, and the accuracy index, which is composed of the two aforementioned measures. Mean comparisons are conducted with aligned rank transformation analysis of variance for three fixed-effects factors: sample size (20, 35, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000), distribution type (10 types), and empirical rule to determine the number of bins (6 rules). From the accuracy index, Rice’s rule improves with increasing sample size and is independent of distribution type. It outperforms the Friedman-Diaconis rule but falls short of Scott’s rule, except with the arcsine distribution. Its profile of means resembles the square root rule concerning distributions and Doane’s rule concerning sample sizes. These profiles differ from those of the Scott and Friedman-Diaconis rules, which resemble each other. Among the seven rules, Scott’s rule stands out in terms of accuracy, except for the arcsine distribution, and the square root rule is the least accurate.

Calculation of Two-Tailed Exact Probability in the Wald-Wolfowitz One-Sample Runs Test

The objectives of this paper are to demonstrate the algorithms employed by three statistical software programs (R, Real Statistics using Excel, and SPSS) for calculating the exact two-tailed probability of the Wald-Wolfowitz one-sample runs test for randomness, to present a novel approach for computing this probability, and to compare the four procedures by generating samples of 10 and 11 data points, varying the parameters n0 (number of zeros) and n1 (number of ones), as well as the number of runs. Fifty-nine samples are created to replicate the behavior of the distribution of the number of runs with 10 and 11 data points. The exact two-tailed probabilities for the four procedures were compared using Friedman’s test. Given the significant difference in central tendency, post-hoc comparisons were conducted using Conover’s test with Benjamini-Yekutielli correction. It is concluded that the procedures of Real Statistics using Excel and R exhibit some inadequacies in the calculation of the exact two-tailed probability, whereas the new proposal and the SPSS procedure are deemed more suitable. The proposed robust algorithm has a more transparent rationale than the SPSS one, albeit being somewhat more conservative. We recommend its implementation for this test and its application to others, such as the binomial and sign test.

The development of high-resolution nanosized photoacoustic contrast agents is an exciting yet challenging technological advance. Herein, antibody （breast cancer-associated antigen I （Brcaal） monoclonal antibody）- and peptide （RGD）- functionalized gold nanoprisms （AuNprs） were used as a combinatorial methodology for in situ photoacoustic imaging, angiography, and localized hyperthermia using orthotopic and subcutaneous murine gastric carcinoma models. RGD-conjugated PEGylated AuNprs are available for tumor angiography, and Brcaal monodonal antibody-conjugated PEGylated AuNprs are used for targeting and for in situ imaging of gastric carcinoma in orthotopic tumor models. In situ photoacoustic imaging allowed for anatomical and functional imaging at the tumor site. In vivo tumor angiography imaging showed enhancement of the photoacoustic signal in a time-dependent manner. Furthermore, photoacoustic imaging demonstrated that tumor vessels were clearly damaged after localized hyperthermia. This is the first proof-of-concept using two AuNprs probes as highly sensitive contrasts and therapeutic agents for in situ tumor detection and inhibition. These smart antibody/peptide AuNprs can be used as an efficient nanotheranostic platform for in vivo tumor detection with high sensitivity, as well as for tumor targeting therapy which, with a single-dose injection, results in tumor size reduction and increases mice survival after localized hyperthermia treatment.
