Assessing tree crown fire damage integrating linear spectral mixture analysis and supervised machine learning on Sentinel-2 imagery

Effects of feeding yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae), organic selenium and chromium mixed on growth performance and carcass traits of hair lambs

Yeasts and organic minerals are used in diets to improve health, productive performance and some carcass characteristics of ruminants and non-ruminants. Thirty-two lambs（pelibuey×Katahdin; bW=（30.55±1.67） kg; n=8） were used in a 56-d feeding experiment to study the effects of different levels of live yeast（Saccharomyces cerevisiae; yeast）, selenium（Se） and chromium（Cr） mixed（Se-Cr）, and a mixture of yeast-Se-Cr on growth performance and carcass traits. Animals were stratified by body weight（bW） and randomly assigned to one of four treatments： 1） control group（0.0 g kg–1 yeast）; 2） yeast（1.50 g kg–1 dry matter intake（DMI） d–1）; 3） Se-Cr premix（1.5 mg kg–1 DMI d–1 for each mineral）; and 4） yeast-Se-Cr mixture. There were no treatment effects on final bW; whereas lambs fed Se-Cr or yeast-Se-Cr had higher（p〈0.05） DMI than animals supplemented with only yeast. Average daily gain（ADG）, gain：feed ratio, chop area, dorsal fat and carcass yield were similar（p〉0.05） among treatment groups. In conclusion, supplementation with yeast, Se-Cr mixed or yeast-Se-Cr did not improve ADG, final bW, back fat content and carcass yield of growing of pelibuey×Katahdin lambs. Supplementation with Se-Cr and yeast-Se-Cr increased DMI, and approximately 250 g ADG animal–1 d–1 was produced with no negative effects on growth and health of the animals.

In face of scarcity in the supply of non-traditional brazilian woods properly treated for use in high quality musical instruments,pieces of Amazonian wood species muiracatiara(Astronium lecointei)and maçaranduba(Manilkara huberi)purchased in the common internal brazilian timber market were *** species were pre-selected for use in fingerboards of acoustic and electric guitars due to similar properties with ebony(Diospyros crassiflora).Variabilities of elastic modulus parallel to grain and density were investigated inside wooden *** addition,referred parameters were used in calculation of speed of *** tests were performed in order to compare both species and revealed inequality for variances of dynamic elastic modulus(E_(d))and speed of sound,but equality for *** of means was also examined via unequal variance *** color differences,lower variability of *** led to the indication of this species as likely capable to substitute satisfactorily ebony in fingerboards manufacturing.

Mathematical simulation of radial heat transfer in packed beds by pseudohomogeneous modeling

Uniform flow regime and constant effective thermal conductivity inside packed beds are commonly accepted in the evaluation of the fluid dynamics and heat transfer in such systems. However, several authors have confirmed the presence of an oscillatory velocity profile caused by the effective contribu~ tion of porosity profile in the fluid dynamic behavior of packed beds, which directly influences the heat transfer inside the beds. This paper describes the application of a pseudo-homogeneous mathematical model for describing heat transfer in packed beds with oscillatory profiles of velocity and porosity, using a radius-dependent model for effective thermal conductivity kr. Several temperature profiles were obtained in a packed bed system with thermal source located on the wall. The simulated temperature and effective thermal conductivity obtained from simulations were compared with experimental data and calculation from a model based on uniform kr fitting. The results indicate that the proposed mathematical modeling was capable of better reDresenting the heat transfer in the packed bed.

Acute diverticulitis in younger patients:Any rationale for a different approach?

AIM:To compare the natural history and course of acute diverticulitis in a younger age group with an older population and to evaluate whether younger patients should be managed differently. METHODS:This study was a retrospective review of 157 patients treated with acute diverticulitis between January 1,2004 and December 31,*** was stratified according to the Hinchey classification. patients were divided into 2 populations:group A≤ 50 years(n=31) ;group b>50 years(n=126) .Mean patient follow-up was 15 mo. RESULTS:The median age was 60 years.A significantly higher proportion of patients in group b presented with complicated diverticulitis(36.5%vs 12.9%,p=0.01) .Recurrence was more frequent in group A(25.8%vs 11.1%,p=0.03) and the mean time-torecurrence was shorter(12 mo vs 28 mo,p=0.26) . The most severe recurrent episodes of acute diverticulitis were classified as Hinchey stageⅠand none of the patients required emergency *** multivariate analysis,only age(p=0.024) was identified as an independent prognostic factor for recurrence. CONCLUSION:based on the results of this study,we recommend that diverticulitis management should be based on the severity of the disease and not on the age of the patient.
