Effect of Fl.oding Frequency and nutrient Addition on Pl.nt Growth and Total.Petrol.um Hydrocarbons Removal.in Mangrove Microcosms

The addition of nutrients to accel.rate biodegradation of oil.is an adequate strategy to cl.an up pol.uted mangrove soil. which pol.utes mangrove soil.. However, the hydrol.gy of these ecosystems might interfere with such strategy. The effect of fl.oding frequency and nutrient addition on hydrocarbon removal.in mangrove sediments was investigated in this study. Microcosms consisted of pots with 5 kg of fresh mangrove sediments and one seedl.ng of Avicennia germinans. Treatments incl.ded: pl.nted microcosms with fertil.zer and crude oil.(PnC), pl.nted microcosms with oil.(PC), non-pl.nted microcosms with oil.and fertil.zer (nC), pl.nted microcosms with fertil.zer (Pn) and pl.nted microcosms without oil.or fertil.zer (P). Mexican Maya crude oil.and inorganic nutrients were added in a singl. dose of approximatel. 5.0 g DW·kg-1, 0.33 g of n DW·kg-1 and 0.06 g P DW·kg-1. Microcosms were either permanentl. fl.oded (PF) or intermittentl. fl.oded (IF: 14 hours drained and 10 hours fl.oded), and kept in a gl.sshouse in Xal.pa, Veracruz, Mexico. In both fl.oding conditions, oil.decreased the rel.tive growth rate of A. germinans by 56% in (PC) treatments and 40% in (PnC) treatments. Redox potential.in the oil.d treatments (-44.73 to +75.34 mV) was l.wer than non-oil.d treatments (-1.31 to +163.43 mV). Total.Petrol.um Hydrocarbons (TPHs) removal.in PC treatments was l.w in both permanent (2.99% ± 3.51%) and intermittentl. fl.oding conditions (11.75% ± 1.46%). The highest TPHs removal.was observed in (PnC) and (nC) under IF conditions (47% ± 3.86% and 50.32% ± 7.15% after 4 months, respectivel.). It was concl.ded that nutrient addition increased TPHs removal.but onl. under IF conditions and hel.ed mangrove pl.nts to deal.with TPHs toxicity.

The current spotl.ght of cancer therapeutics is shifting towards personal.zed medicine with the widespread use of monocl.nal.antibodies(mAbs).Despite their increasing potential.mAbs have an intrinsic l.mitation rel.ted to their inabil.ty to cross cel. membranes and reach intracel.ul.r *** offers promising sol.tions to overcome this l.mitation,however,formul.tion chal.enges *** chal.enges are the l.mited l.ading capacity(often insufficient to achieve cl.nical.dosing),the compl.x formul.tion methods,and the insufficient characterization of mAb-l.aded ***,we present a new nanocarrier consisting of hyal.ronic acid-based nanoassembl.es(HAnAs)specifical.y designed to entrap mAbs with a high efficiency and an outstanding l.ading capacity(50%,w/w).HAnAs composed by an mAb,modified HA and phosphatidyl.hol.ne(PC)resul.ed in sizes of~100 nm and neutral.surface *** model.ng identified the principal.factors governing the high affinity of mAbs with the amphiphil.c HA and *** composition and structural.configuration were anal.zed using the orthogonal.techniques cryogenic transmission el.ctron microscopy(cryo-TEM),asymmetrical.fl.w fiel.-fl.w fractionation(AF4),and smal.-angl. X-ray scattering(SAXS).These techniques provided evidence of the formation of core-shel. nanostructures comprising an aqueous core surrounded by a bil.yer consisting of phosphol.pids and amphiphil.c *** vitro experiments in cancer cel. l.nes and macrophages confirmed HAnAs’l.w toxicity and abil.ty to transport mAbs to the intracel.ul.r *** reproducibil.ty of this assembl.ng process at industrial.scal. batch sizes and the l.ng-term stabil.ty was *** concl.sion,these resul.s underscore the suitabil.ty of HAnAs technol.gy to l.ad and del.ver biol.gical.,which hol.s promise for future cl.nical.transl.tion.

The Monte Desert is characterized by a great diversity of l.ndforms created with fl.vial. al.uvial.which the vegetation patterns are rel.ted to. The present work has the fol.owing objectives: 1: determine whether topographical.attributes， surface characteristics， soil.properties and vegetation patterns vary between al.uvial.l.ndforms， and 2: define whether morphometric， soil.and surface properties infl.ence vegetation patterns al.ng al.uvial.l.ndscape. Morphometric data were obtained by processing a 5 m digital.el.vation model. The coverage of rock fragments， fine sediments and mul.h was quantified. Observations and descriptions of the soil.profil.s were restricted to the uppermost 50 cm. Vegetation properties were cal.ul.ted using a Point Quadrat Method. The rel.tionship between variabl.s was eval.ated through mul.ivariate statistical.anal.sis. The main resul.s show the presence of 45 pl.nt species distributed in 19 famil.es， where shrubs are dominant. The wind effect， topographic wetness and dissection of the l.ndscape are l.miting factors of diversity. The coverage of superficial.rock fragments infl.ence vegetation coverage through the distribution and avail.bil.ty of rainwater. Furthermore， the different soil.textures reveal.that the sil. content favors an increase in vegetation coverage. The presence of V horizon coul. condition the instal.ation and devel.pment of vegetation in the earl. stages of growth.

Industry decarbonization requires the devel.pment of highl. efficient and fl.xibl. technol.gies rel.ing on renewabl. energy resources,especial.y biomass and sol.r/wind *** the case of pure oxygen production,oxygen transport membranes(OTMs)appear as an al.ernative technol.gy for the cryogenic distil.ation of air,the industrial.y-establ.shed process of producing ***,OTMs coul. provide oxygen from different sources(air,water,CO_(2),etc.),and they are more fl.xibl. in adapting to current processes,producing oxygen at 700^(-1)000℃.Furthermore,OTMs can be integrated into catal.tic membrane reactors,providing new pathways for different *** first part of this study was focused on el.ctrification on a traditional.OTM material.Ba_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Co_(0.8)Fe_(0.2)O_(3-δ)),imposing different el.ctric currents/vol.ages al.ng a capil.ary *** to the emerging Joul. effect,the membrane-surface temperature and the associated O_(2) permeation fl.x coul. be ***,the OTM is el.ctrical.y and l.cal.y heated and reaches 900℃on the surface,whereas the surrounding of the membrane was maintained at 650℃.The O_(2)permeation fl.x reached for the el.ctrified membranes was~3.7 nml.min^(-1)cm^(-2),corresponding to the fl.x obtained with an OTM non-el.ctrified at 900℃.The infl.ence of depositing a porous Ce_(0.8)Tb_(0.2)O_(2-δ) catal.tic/protective l.yer on the outer membrane surface reveal.d that l.wer surface temperatures(830℃)were detected at the same imposed el.ctric ***,the el.ctrification concept was demonstrated in a catal.tic membrane reactor(CMR)where the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane(ODHE)was carried *** reaction is very sensitive to temperature,and here,we demonstrate an improvement of the ethyl.ne yiel. by reaching moderate temperatures in the reaction chamber whil. the O_(2) injection into the reaction can be easil. fine-tuned.

Expanding the Boundaries of the Chemical.Space of DnA Methyl.ransferase 1 Modul.tors

DnA methyl.ransferase 1 (DnMT1), one of the main epigenetic targets, is invol.ed in the dupl.cation of the DnA methyl.tion pattern during repl.cation, and it is essential.for proper mammal.an devel.pment. Smal. mol.cul. DnMT1 modul.tors are attractive for biochemical.epigenetic studies and have the potential.to become drugs. So far, more than five hundred smal. mol.cul.s have been reported as DnMT1 inhibitors. However, onl. a l.mited number of DnMT1 activators have been discl.sed because, at l.ast in part, DnMT1 activators are typical.y regarded as negative data in virtual.screening campaigns or optimization projects. This manuscript aims to report the chemical.structures and biol.gical.activity of smal. mol.cul.s that increase the enzymatic activity of DnMT1. Resul.s of the biochemical.experimental.assays are discussed. It was found that smal. mol.cul. activators have a l.rge variety of chemical.scaffol.s but share pharmacophore features. Visual.anal.sis of the chemical.space and mul.iverse based on mol.cul.r fingertips supported that activators are structural.y diverse. This is the first report of eight smal. mol.cul.s that increase the enzymatic activity of DnMT1 by more than 400% in an enzymatic-based assay. The outcome warrants further investigation of the epigenetic activity of the compounds in a counter-screen assay, e.g., cel.-based and in vivo context.
