The.e.facts limit the.mode. pre.ictions re.iability, affe.ting the.e.timate. hydrodynamic parame.e.s, e.te.nal stre.se., and othe. mode. outputs that can be.critical for planning or manage.e.t de.isions. This pape. de.cribe. the.re.asse.sme.t of a coastal aquife. mode. (Orope.a-Torre.lanca, e.ste.n Spain) subje.te. to mode.ate.to-high saline.intrusion with a transie.t 3D variable.de.sity flow mode.. Pre.ious mode.s we.e.base. on 2D low-re.olution grids without variable.de.sity e.fe.ts. The.ne. mode. honors the.obse.ve. tre.ds of both pie.ome.ric and salinity data. Re.ults show the.importance.of the.variable.de.sity e.fe.ts having on critical outputs as se. intrusion and the.discharge. to a local we.land of high e.vironme.tal value. The.wide.pre.d intrusion proce.s and its curre.t stabilization are.confirme. but, compare. to pre.ious mode.s, the.annual ave.age.intrusion is 156% highe., discharge.to the.we.land incre.se. 30%, and the.inflows from ne.ghboring formations incre.se.22%. The.more.accurate.aquife. mode.s, as we.l as the.ne. discharge. and intrusion e.timations, are.important contributions for future.wate. and e.vironme.tal planning de.isions in the.are..
