Evaluation of the Antiviral Activity of Propolis from Native Bees (<i>Plebeia frontalis</i>) against Canine Distemper Virus

Propolis is a natural substance made from resins collected from trees and plants, and which bees combine with pollen, wax, and their own enzymes. It has a complex chemical composition that varies with the harvest season, vegetation type, bee species, and geographical region. Thanks to its components, it has valuable biological properties such as antifungal, antibacterial, anticancer, antiviral, and immunomodulatory activity. For this study, a sample of propolis harvested in April 2019 was used, which came from a bee native to Mexico (Plebeia frontalis) in whose geographical environment there are seven other native species. Canine distemper virus is an RNA virus that causes a systemic infection with high fatality rates in guests without protective immunity. In this work, the antiviral effect of Plebeia frontalis propolis on canine distemper virus was tested, administering it one hour before and simultaneously to infection. The antiviral effect was evaluated by determining cellular viability with the MTT assay. The results obtained show that this propolis has a statistically significant antiviral effect on both treatments, although it is slightly better when applied one hour before viral infection, so we can recommend it as an antiviral treatment in both domestic animals and human beings. There are currently few studies of the antiviral effect of propolis, this being the first study of a melliponium propolis in veterinary medicine.

Territorial Competitiveness in a Globalised Economy： Regional Efficiency of the Mexican Service Sector

The existence of a solid service sector and some degree of specialisation in tertiary activities are among a number of territorial diversity of factors which need to be taken into account in relation to the creation of competitive capacities. In addition globalisation has presumably played a significant role in the productive restructuring of economies in which the service sector has had an increasing quantitative and qualitative importance over the years. Therefore, an evaluation of the role of services in constructing regional competitive capacities is required. This paper aims at addressing indirectly the meaning of services on improving competitiveness by providing a wide-ranging analysis of regional efficiency of the Mexican service sector and its determinants as well as an overview of its territorial distribution and specialisation patterns. We evaluate the patterns of concentration of the third sector and its branches, and specialisation of regions. The efficiency of the service sector in the NAFTA period is analysed further because of the impact of services on regional competitiveness. We employ state level data to examine technical efficiency’s differentials across regions and their determinants. The methodology includes data envelopment analysis to measure technical efficiency which is the dependent variable in a reduced form model that links regional performance with a number of proxies for various types of agglomeration economies such as specialisation, urbanisation and internal economies of scale.

We present a case of keratitis caused by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia in a therapeutic contact lens user with trichiasis and symblepharon. This keratitis was initially diagnosed as caused by Achromobacter xylosoxidans, but the strain was sent for species confirmation and the isolate was finally identified as S. maltophilia by means of 16S rDNA sequencing. The patient rapidly improved on administration of fortified ceftazidime. Physicians should be aware that the definitive identification of the pathogenic agent and prolonged antimicrobial treatment according to culture sensitivities in keratitis are mandatory as treatment success depends greatly on them.

At the end of the seventies,science,philosophy and arts became a succulent material for poets,especially for those belonging to experimental groups like Susan ***(2017),probably Howe’s last book,is a museum for any reader as it is not just an ensemble of memoirs and related poems,but also a source of pictorial and literary *** includes extracts from 19th and 20th century texts(fairy tales,essays,and other genres)by her favorite influential authors as well as her ekphrastic poems that evocate paintings and sculptures from the Isabella Gardner Museum where she once found the *** music has a place in this book,as Howe tends to include sound effects,interferences and references to musical pieces in her poems to make them multidimensional works of *** the pages,Howe highlights the materiality of writing,as well as the relevance of the form,especially in“Tom Tit Tot”,where she shows her mastery of the collage *** these carefully chosen pieces have the mission of representing the eternal return,the relativity of time,and how death can also be a beginning.

Influence of Humidity on Yield Stress Determination by Slump Test of Slip-Prone Clayey Soils and Their Relation with the Chemical Properties

In this work, the yield stress evaluation as a function of water content for slip-prone clayey soils is studied in order to understand how yield stress decreases as water content increases, and their relation with the chemical properties. The clayey soil samples were taken from the region of Teziutlán-Puebla-Mexico. Yield stress was calculated using the slump test in cylindrical geometry. Results show three zones. The first one shows an exponential decrement on yield stress due to lower water content in accord with clayey soils with high content of illita, followed by a second region where yield stress decreases dramatically at a certain critical water concentration, and the third one where yield stress dependence is not well-defined since the clayey soil flow is seen. Finally, it is discussed how yield stress variation due to the water increment influences the landslide risk increment.

AIM:To analyze the cytokine production by peripheral blood cells from cirrhotic patients with and without TLR4 D299G and/or T399I ***:The study included nine patients with cirrhosis and TLR4 D299G and/or T399I polymorphisms,and 10 wild-type patients matched for age,sex and degree of liver ***4 polymorphisms were determined by sequence-based *** production by peripheral blood cells was assessed spontaneously and also after lipopolysaccharide(LPS)and lipoteichoic acid(LTA)***:Patients with TLR4 polymorphisms had a higher incidence of previous hepatic encephalopathy than wild-type patients(78%vs 20%,P=0.02).Spontaneous production of interleukin(IL)-6 and IL-10 was lower in patients with TLR4 polymorphisms than in wild-type patients[IL-6:888.7(172.0-2119.3)pg/m L vs 5540.4(1159.2-26053.9)pg/m L,P<0.001;IL-10:28.7(6.5-177.1)pg/m L vs 117.8(6.5-318.1)pg/m L,P=0.02].However,the production of tumor necrosis factor-α,IL-6 and IL-10 after LPS and LTA stimulation was similar in the two ***:TLR4 polymorphisms were associated with a distinctive pattern of cytokine production in cirrhotic patients,suggesting that they play a role in the development of cirrhosis complications.

San Miguelito山脉地区是一相对隆升地区,它由中晚新生代的硅质火山岩组成.该区发育一组近于平行的多米诺正断层.断层长度和位移符合幂律分布.在二维空间断裂长度的分形分布指数是-1.49.在一维空间,多剖面取样方法得到断裂位移的幂律分布指数是-0.66.而用所有一维综合数据作累计曲线图得到的直线部分的斜率是-0.63.在长度与位移图上,长度与位移并不显示为线性关系,在长度-位移图上数据点比较分散.分散的主要原因是断裂形成过程中的断裂连接作用.用断裂位移分布的一维幂指数(-0.63)估算由正断层引起的拉伸应变是0.183.地层拉伸应变总是小于或等于水平拉伸应变.研究表明San Miguelito山脉地区的部分变形是由一系列透人性的小断裂引起,由小断裂引起的拉伸占总水平拉伸的33%.

To editor:Cesarean scar pregnancy(CSP)is a rare pathology,with an increasingly clear association with morbidly adherent placenta(MAP).1 Although the most recommended treatment is pregnancy termination by cesarean section and scar resection shortly after diagnosis.2 The final decision regarding management depends on the patient's choice,medical advice,the fertility desire,and the social,religious and emotional background that should also be taken into account.
