Entomopathogenic fungi, such as Metarhizium anisopliae, are able to control various insect pests. These fungi attack the integument of the host using an enzymatic complex. Among the enzymes found in this complex, chitinase is an important component. However, the relation between the chitinase production and the virulence from different M. anisopliae strains has not been analyzed. In this manuscript it is presented the chitinase production by four M. anisopliae strains with different potential of virulence in Solid-State Fermentation using silkworm chrysalis as substrate. The higher chitinase level was obtained with the strain IBCB 360 (7.14 U/g of substrate) with potential virulence of 68% on Diatrea saccharalis. The enzyme production was optimized for all strains using a factorial planning (CCRD) considering the cultivation time and medium humidity as independent variables. The maximal production of chitinase was obtained at a range from 8 to 12-days old cultures and from 45% to 62% of moisture according to the surface response plot, with high R2 value. The enzyme production by the strain IBCB 167 was increased two-folds under optimized conditions, while for the strains IBCB 360 and 425 the chitinase production was increased four-folds and nine-folds for the strain IBCB 384.

Mentum deformities in chironomids have been commonly used as indicators of metal contamination in freshwater *** of these deformities suggests sublethal effects and can provide early signals of environmental *** anthropogenic metal pollution is known to lead to an increase in deformities in chironomids,natural background deformity incidence information is key to their effective use as biomonitoring *** we explore the incidence of deformities from 5000 Tanytarsus(Diptera,Chironomidae)menta in relation to water physicochemical,and sediment metal(Al,As,Cu,Fe,Mn,Pb,Zn)concentration data from numerous sites in the naturally metal-rich Sonora River(NW Mexico)obtained over a two-year *** metal concentrations were found in the upper *** salinity,total suspended solids and conductivity were found in the lower *** As and Cu were occasionally found above published threshold effect levels(TEL).The proportion of deformities(%D)was low(2.1%)and a generalized linear model only explained 25.36%of%D variability among samples;this model included several physicochemical *** only metal significantly related to deformities was *** significant spatial and temporal variability in all metal concentrations and other physicochemical parameters in the basin,we were unable to explain a strong relationship between metal concentration and deformity *** results,based on consistent%D quantification from 5000 samples from a single taxon,suggest that natural variation in metal concentrations,even when statistically significant,is not associated with notable variations in the incidence of deformities.

Introduction: Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (CCTGA) is a rare heart disease that encompasses an atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance and accounts for less than 1 percent of congenital heart diseases. Objective: To present an atypical case of a man with complex congenital heart disease and conduction anomalies. Case Presentation: This is a case of a 34-year-old patient who came to the hospital with 1 week of dyspnea on exertion and episodes of lipothymia. The patient was referred to our hospital after an electrocardiogram from his primary care with evidence of blocked atrial fibrillation. During the initial evaluation blocked atrial fibrillation was confirmed with a rescue ventricular rate of 38 bpm. A magnetic resonance confirmed the presence of the atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance, the aorta had a left anterior position, perimembranous ventricular septal defect with a right to left shunt, biventricular systolic dysfunction, moderate tricuspid, and mitral regurgitation, interventricular septal intramyocardial and biatrial fibrosis, left atrial dilation, and dilation of the pulmonary artery. After pacemaker placement, the patient has an improvement in his clinical symptoms and quality of life. Conclusions: Cardiac arrhythmias are CCTGA’s leading cause of death, mostly ventricular tachycardia, and atrial fibrillation. Stem cell therapy for cardiac infarct regeneration has been widely used in clinical research. Despite the fact that important advances in this field have been reached, the observed recovery does not demonstrate new cardiac muscle formation. Benefits have been observed due to an improvement in neovascularisation. The main objective of this study was to determine if pre-differentiated stem cells into cells of myocardic lineage are capable of engraftment in animal models with induced cardiac infarct and are capable of truly differentiating into myocardiocytes. Bone marrow rat stem cells were pre-differentiated with 5-AZ. After 4 weeks, pre-differentiated stem cells express muscarinic 1, 2 and β adrenergic 2 receptors. Also, proteins such as sarcomeric α-actin, cardiac myosin heavy chain, desmin and vimentin were detected by immunocytochemistry. Cells were transplanted intracardialy in an ischemic cardiac rat model. Pre-differentiated or non differentiated cells were transplanted after 4 weeks post infarct induction. Histopathology of the hearts was made 2 weeks after cell transplantation. Typical granulated tissue, scare formation and neovascularisation were observed in both groups. However, in those hearts from rats inoculated with pre-differentiated cells many appeared atypical and were α-actin sarcomeric positive. These events suggest that pre-differentiated cells conserve some muscle characteristic traits in situ that at least last for two weeks after transplantation.

Al-Sn alloys were produced by the induction melting method with different Bi additions. Microstructure shows grains 130 μm average size. Fracture toughness and hardness tests have shown that ternary alloying elements present significantly affected the samples with Bi alloying. Plastic deformation was evaluated by using the forging test;the results have shown that the addition of 3.5 at.% Bi increased the value at least twice as compared with unalloyed sample. Wear test indicated that bismuth slightly affected the tribological behavior. It was found that a concentration of 3.0 at.% Bi, considerably enhances the alloys performance.

From results obtained in the rheological characterization of a 4% dispersion of flamboyant gum with the HaakeRT20 viscometer, for different conditions of pH = 3.0 and 9.0, temperature 5°C, 25°C and 45°C, the data of the rheological behavior of the gum dispersions were fitted to the power law model. To understand and predict the behavior of this gum, a model of Lattice Boltzmann D2Q9 was developed for the behavior, in addition to simulations for the conditions handled in the experiments performed with the HaakeRT20 viscometer.

An innovative inversion code, named “Curupira v1.0”, has been developed using Matlab to determine the vertical distribution of resistivity beneath the subsoil. The program integrates Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES), successful in shallow subsurface exploration and Time Domain Electromagnetic (TEM) techniques, better suited for deeper exploration, both of which are widely employed in geophysical exploration. These methodologies involve calculating subsurface resistivity through appropriate inversion processes. To address the ill-posed nature of inverse problems in geophysics, a joint inversion scheme combining VES and TEM data has been incorporated into Curupira v1.0. The software has been tested on both synthetic and real-world data, the latter of which was acquired from the Parana sedimentary basin which we summarise here. The results indicate that the joint inversion of VES and TEM techniques offers improved recovery of simulated models and demonstrates significant potential for hydrogeological studies.

This paper presents an upper limb exoskeleton that allows cognitive(through electromyography signals)and physical user interaction(through load cells sensors)for passive and active exercises that can activate neuroplasticity in the rehabilitation process of people who suffer from a neurological *** the exoskeleton to be easily accepted by patients who suffer from a neurological injury,we used the ISO9241-210:2010 as a methodology design *** the first steps of the design process,design requirements were collected from previous usability tests and ***,as a second step,a technological solution is proposed,and as a third step,the system was evaluated through performance and user *** part of the technological solution and to allow patient participation during the rehabilitation process,we have proposed a hybrid admittance control whose input is load cell or electromyography *** hybrid admittance control is intended for active therapy exercises,is easily implemented,and does not need musculoskeletal modeling to ***,electromyography signals classification models and features were evaluated to identify the best settings for the cognitive human–robot interaction.

Transanal endoscopic surgery(TES) consists of a series of anorectal surgical procedures using different devices that are introduced into the anal canal. TES has been developed significantly since it was first used in the 1980 s. The key point for the success of these techniques is how accurately patients are selected. The main indication was the resection of endoscopically unresectable adenomas. In recent years,these techniques have become more widespread which has allowed them to be applied in conservative rectal procedures for both benign diseases and selected cases of rectal cancer. For more advanced rectal cancers it should be considered palliative or,in some controlled trials,experimental. The role of newer endoscopic techniques available has not yet been defined. TES may allow for new strategies in the treatment of rectal pathology,like transanal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery or total mesorectal excision.
