Digital radiograph(DR)guided bedside IVC filter placements in patients with intracranial pressure monitors

Purpose:The purpose of this study is to report a single center experience with portable digital radiographically(DR)guided bedside IVC filters placed in intensive care unit(ICU)patients with high ICP and elevated head of bed(hoB).Materials and methods:A retrospective chart review was conducted on all bedside IVC filters placed from January 1,2010 to September 16,*** with high ICP and elevated head of bed requirements were *** were reviewed for filter type,common femoral vein(CFV)access,filter location,pre procedure imaging,pre and post filter ICPs,glascow coma scale,number of radiographs taken,and filter *** were obtained 1 h prior to procedure and 2 h post procedure and analyzed with a paired T *** were placed by reviewing prior CT scan for IVC size,caval variants,renal and iliac veins and vertebral body ***,CFV access was obtained and a Bentson wire was advanced 30-40 cm.A radiograph was used to confirm adequate position of the of the *** filter sheath was advanced and serial radiographs were used to position the filter sheath at the final predetermined position below the renal veins and above the iliac *** filter was deployed,and a radiograph was obtained to confirm filter ***:A total of 9 DR guided bedside IVC filters were placed(4 Denali,3 option Elite,2 Celect).Indications included prophylactic placement(n=8)and acute DVT(n=1).The average patient age was 35.8 years(range:18-56 years)CT abdomen and pelvis was used to assess for the level of renal veins in all patients(n=9).No caval variants were encountered on pre-procedural *** average pre,intraprocedural,and post procedure intracranial pressure was 16 mmhg,13 mmhg,and 16 mmhg,*** of placement after final placement was available in 7 patients(4 DR,2 CT and one fluoroscopic examination).Two non-procedural related deaths *** success,defined as successful placement of IVC filter at the

Low-ionization galaxies and evolution in a pilot survey up to z=1

We present galactic spectroscopic data from a pencil beam of 10.75×7.5 centered on the X-ray cluster RXJ0054.0–2823 at z=*** study the spectral evolution of galaxies from z=1 down to the cluster redshift in a magnitude-limited sample at R≤23,for which the statistical properties of the sample are well *** divide emission-line galaxies into star-forming galaxies,Low Ionization Nuclear Emission line Regions（LINERs） ,and Seyferts by using emission-line ratios of[oII],hβ,and[oIII],and derive stellar fractions from population synthesis models. We focus our analysis on absorption and low-ionization *** absorption-line galaxies,we recover the well-known result that these galaxies have had no detectable evolution since z～0.6-0.7,but we also find that in the range z=0.65-1,at least 50% of the stars in bright absorption systems are younger than 2.5 *** absorption-line galaxies in the cluster at z=0.29 also had significant star formation during the previous 2-3 Gyr,but their brighter counterparts seem to be only composed of old *** z～0.8,our dynamically young cluster had a truncated *** result seems to be consistent with a scenario where the final assembly of E/S0 took place at *** the volume-limited range 0.35≤z≤0.65,we find that 23% of the early-type galaxies have LINER-like spectra with hβin absorption and have a significant component of A *** vast majority of LINERs in our sample have significant populations of young and intermediate-aged stars and are thus not related to AGNs,but to the population of‘retired galaxies’recently identified by Cid Fernandes et *** the Sloan Digital Sky Survey（SDSS） .Early-type LINERs with various fractions of A stars and E＋A galaxies appear to play an important role in the formation of the red sequence.

For many years finite element method(FEM)was the chosen numerical method for the analysis of composite ***,in the last 20 years,the scientific community has witnessed the birth and development of several meshless methods,which are more flexible and equally accurate numerical *** meshless method used in this work is the natural neighbour radial point interpolation method(NNRPIM).In order to discretize the problem domain,the NNRPIM only requires an unstructured nodal ***,using the Voronoi mathematical concept,it enforces the nodal connectivity and constructs the background integration *** NNRPIM shape functions are constructed using the radial point interpolation *** this work,the displacement field of composite laminated plates is defined by high-order shear deformation *** the end,several antisymmetric cross-ply laminates were analysed and the NNRPIM solutions were compared with the *** obtained results show the efficiency and accuracy of the NNRPIM formulation.

Bacteroides fragilis Supernatant Extracts Enriched in Phenylacetic Acid Induce a Cytotoxic Effect in Mammalian Cells

Bacteroides species are nearly half of the fecal flora community and some are host symbionts crucial to host nutrition and systemic immunity. Among Bacteroides species B. fragilis strains are considered to be the opportunistic ones, being the most isolated anaerobic bacteria in clinical samples. Cell-free supernatants of 65 B. fragilis strains were assayed and they were capable of inducing vacuolating phenotype on Vero cells lineage. The supernatant of the Bacteroides fragilis ATCC 23745 strain was elicited to have the strongest vacuolating effect on Vero cells monolayers and peritoneal macrophages. Some drastic cell alterations were observed, such as a general disorganization of cytoplasm and chromatin condensation, evidencing cell death. By transmission electron microscopy it was confirmed that the vacuoles observed were, in fact, swollen mitochondria. An immunocytochemical assay, TUNEL, was used to confirm this hypothesis and showed that Vero cells and peritoneal macrophages were dying by apoptotic process after exposition of B. fragilis cell-free supernatant. Physical analysis of the apoptotic factor has revealed properties similar to short-chain fatty acids. After gas chromatography and mass spectrometry analysis, phenylacetic acid (PA) was characterized as the major compound present in the most purified active fraction. We believe that the PA is responsible for the pro-apoptotic effect elicited by the supernatant of B. fragilis cultures.

AIM To characterize peripheral blood natural killer(NK) cells phenotypes by flow cytometry as potential biomarker of liver fibrosis in human immunodeficiency virus(hIV)/hepatitis C virus(hCV) coinfected *** Peripheral mononuclear cells from 24 hIV/hCV(hBVnegative) coinfected and 5 hIV/hCV/hBV seronegative individuals were evaluated. hIV/hCV coinfected patients were divided in to groups: G1, patients with METAVIR F0-F2 and G2, patients with METAVIR F3-F4. NK surface cell staining was performed with: AntiCD3(APC/Cy7), anti-CD56(PE/Cy5), anti-CD57(APC), anti-CD25(PE), anti-CD69(FITC), anti-NKp30(PE), antiNKp46(PE/Cy7), anti-NKG2D(APC), anti-DNAM(FITC); anti-CD62L(PE/Cy7), anti-CCR7(PE), anti-TRAIL(PE), anti-Fas L(PE), anti CD94(FITC). Flow cytometry data acquisition was performed on BD FACSCanto, analyzed using Flow Jo software. Frequency of fluorescence was analyzed for all single markers. Clinical records were reviewed, and epidemiological and clinical data were *** Samples from 11 patients were included in G1 and from 13 in G2. All patients were on ARV, with undetectable hIV viral load. Liver fibrosis was evaluated by transient elastography in 90% of the patients and with biopsy in 10% of the patients. Mean hCV viral load was(6.18 ± 0.7 log10). Even though, no major significant differences were observed between G1 and G2 regarding NK surface markers, it was found that patients with higher liver fibrosis presented statistically lower percentage of NK cells than individual with low to mild fibrosis and healthy controls(G2: 5.4% ± 2.3%, G1: 12.6% ± 8.2%, P = 0.002 and healthy controls 12.2% ± 2.7%, P = 0.008). It was also found that individuals with higher liver fibrosis presented lower CD4 LT count than those from G1(G2: 521 ± 312 cells/μL, G1: 770 ± 205 cells/μL; P = 0.035).CoNCLUSIoN higher levels of liver fibrosis were associated with lower percentage of NK cells and LTCD4+ count; and they may serve as noninvasive biomarkers of liver damag

Application of formal languages in polynomial transformations of instances between NP-complete problems

We propose the usage of formal languages for expressing instances of NP-complete problems for their application in polynomial transformations. The proposed approach, which consists of using formal language theory for polynomial transformations, is more robust, more practical, and faster to apply to real problems than the theory of polynomial transformations. In this paper we propose a methodology for transforming instances between NP-complete problems, which differs from Garey and Johnson's. Unlike most transformations which are used for proving that a problem is NP-complete based on the NP-completeness of another problem, the proposed approach is intended for extrapolating some known characteristics, phenomena, or behaviors from a problem A to another problem B. This extrapolation could be useful for predicting the performance of an algorithm for solving B based on its known performance for problem A, or for taking an algorithm that solves A and adapting it to solve B.

Enzymatic hydrolysis of proteins is a breakdown process of peptide bond in proteins,releasing some peptides with potential biological *** studies on enzymatic hydrolysis of whey proteins have not identified the complete peptide profiles after *** this study,we reconstructed a profile of peptides from whey hydrolysates with two enzymes and different processing *** also developed an ensemble machine learning predictor to classify peptides obtained from whey hydrolysis.A total of 2572 peptides were identified over three process conditions with two enzymes in duplicate.499 peptides were classified and chosen as potential antioxidant peptides from whey *** peptides classified as antioxidants in the hydrolysates had a proportion of 13.1%-24.5%regarding all peptides *** results facilitate the selection of promising peptides involved in the antioxidant properties during the enzymatic hydrolysis of whey proteins,aiding the discovery of novel antioxidant peptides.
