Assessing above-ground biomass-functional diversity relationships in temperate forests in northern Mexico

Background:Studies on the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem productivity have suggested that species richness and functional diversity are the main drivers of ecosystem *** patterns on this relationship have been found,including positive,unimodal,negative,and neutral trends,keeping the issue *** this study,taxonomic diversity and functional diversity as drivers of above-ground biomass(AGB)were compared,and the mechanisms that influence biomass production were investigated by testing the complementarity and the mass-ratio ***:Using data from 414 permanent sample plots,covering 23%of temperate forest in the Sierra Madre oriental(México),we estimated the above-gound biomass(AGB),taxonomic and functional diversity indices,as well as community weighted mean values(CWM)for three functional traits(maximum height,leaf size and wood density)for trees≥7.5 cm DBh,in managed and unmanaged *** compare taxonomic diversity differences between managed and unmanaged stands we carried out a rarefaction ***,we evaluated the relationship between AGB and taxonomic and functional diversity metrics,as well as CWM traits throught spatial autoregressive ***:We found a hump-shaped relationship between AGB and species richness in managed and unmanaged *** of maximum height was the most important predictor of AGB in both stands,which suggested that the mechanism underlaying the AGB-diversity relationship is the dominance of some highly productive species,supporting the mass-ratio ***-ground biomass was significantly correlated with three of the five functional diversity metrics,CWM maximum height and species *** results show the importance of taking into account spatial autocorrelation in the construction of predictive models to avoid spurious patterns in the AGBdiversity ***:Species richness,maximum height,functional richness,functional dispersion and Rao

Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub., commonly known as guar gum, is a legume of great industrial importance due to the multiple uses which can be given by galactomannans contained in the seed’s endosperm. Keeping in mind the acquiring relevance of this crop, it was considered of great importance to characterize the physical environment and the natural factors in order to locate the most suitable cultivation areas under rainfed conditions. The software Arc/View version 3.3 was used to process and analyze the information. The optimal agroclimatic requirements of guar gum were identified and each variable factor was matched with those found at ground level. A cartographic mapping was carried out to regionalize and locate the optimal and suboptimal zones. It was determined that in Mexico there is a great potential for its cultivation since it was found the existence of 900 thousand hectares with high or optimal potential and more than 200 thousand hectares of medium and sub-optimal potential where crop can be well established under rainfed conditions.

: hamartomas of the bile duct (von Meyenburg complex) are benign neoplasms of the liver, constituted histologically cystic dilatations of the bile duct, encompassed by fibrous stroma. We report a 42-year-old female patient with symptomatic cholecystitis, whose gross and ultrasonic appearance suggestive of multiple liver metastases. Magnetic resonance imaging and liver biopsy are the gold standards for diagnosis of this rare hepatobiliary condition.

In this paper, wavelet transform and entropy are evaluated using the mathematical analysis concepts of reflexibility, regularity and series obtention, these concepts remark the reason to make a selective reference framework for power quality applications. With this idea the paper used the same treatment for the two algorithms (Multiresolution and Multiscale Entropy). The wavelet is denoted to have the most power full consistence to the light off the reflexibility, regularity and series obtention. The paper proposes a power quality technique namely MpqAT.

Gmelina arborea Roxb. (Melina), also known as white teak, is a tropical tree of great importance with multiple benefits. It is a timber species with renewal capacity and accelerated growth, highly durable and high quantity and quality pulp production, widely used in commercial programs of reforestation. In view of a possible increase of Melina areas in the state of Tabasco Mexico, information was needed in relation with the physical environment and natural factors in order to locate the most suitable areas under rainfed conditions. In this way, decision makers will be provided with a basic tool to direct and promote commercial plantations in the best suitable areas. The software Arc/View version 3.3 was used to process and analyze the information. The optimum agroclimatic requirements of Melina were identified and each variable factor was matched with those found at ground level. A cartographic mapping was carried out to regionalize and locate the optimal and suboptimal zones. It was determined that there are 191,532 ha of high potential and 542,573 ha of medium potential production areas of Melina in Tabasco, Mexico under rainfed conditions.

Genome-Wide Survey and Evolutionary Analysis of Trypsin Proteases in Apicomplexan Parasites

Apicomplexa are an extremely diverse group of unicellular organisms that infect humans and other animals. Despite the great advances in combating infectious diseases over the past century, these parasites still have a tremendous social and economic burden on human societies, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Proteases from apicomplexa have been characterized at the molecular and cellular levels, and central roles have been proposed for proteases in diverse processes. In this work, 16 new genes encoding for trypsin proteases are identified in 8 apicomplexan genomes by a genome-wide survey. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that these genes were gained through both intracellutar gene transfer and vertical gene transfer. Identification, characterization and understanding of the evolutionary origin of protease-mediated processes are crucial to increase the knowledge and improve the strategies for the development of novel chemotherapeutic agents and vaccines.

The study aimed to analyze the actions of health nursing care provided to families of children with leukemia in a Private Institution ofMaceio. A descriptive, observational, exploratory, qualitative approach is used in the study. The categories were analyzed： link, empowerment and acceptance. It was noted about empowering the nursing staff has traits approach with children, with little attention to the preparation of the family for autonomy in patient care. As the host, it was observed that the nurse had praised in dealing with patients and relatives and solving problems; however with respect to the nursing staffthat activity was not evident. But the bond between the two parties was hindered by constant exchanges of staff in different shifts. It was evident traces ofa caregiver modeling by the nursing staff, but with drawbacks, hindering progress in caring for family members of children with leukemia.

Columnar joints in the Patino Formation sandstones, Eastern Paraguay： a dynamic interaction between dyke intrusion, quartz dissolution and cooling-induced fractures

The Patiho Formation sandstones, which crop out in Aregud neighborhood in Eastern Paraguay and show columnar joints near the contact zone with a nephelinite dyke, have as their main characteristics the high pro- portion of syntaxial quartz overgrowth and a porosity originated from different processes, initially by dissolu- tion and later by partial filling and fracturing. Features like the presence of floating grains in the syntaxial cement, the transitional interpenetrative contact between the silica-rich cement and grains as well as the intense fracture porosity are strong indications that the cement has been formed by dissolution and reprecipita- tion of quartz from the framework under the effect of thermal expansion followed by rapid contraction. The increase of the silica-rich cement towards the dyke in association with the orthogonal disposition of the columns relative to dyke walls are indicative that the igneous body may represent the main heat source for the interstitial aqueous solutions previously existing in the sediments. At macroscopic scale, the increasing of inter- nal tensions in the sandstones is responsible for the nucleation of polygons, leading to the individualization of prisms, which are interconnected by a system of joints, formed firstly on isotherm surfaces of low tem- perature and later on successive adjacent planes towards the dyke heat source.

Content and bioaccessibility of bioactive compounds with potential benefits for macular health in tiger nut products

Clinical studies have associated the consumption of tiger nuts(Cyperus esculentus L.),and its derivates,with improved macular health,due to the presence of certain liposoluble compounds with antioxidant activity,especially to lutein and ***,the benefits derived from ingestion of tiger nut products may vary depending on the release of these compounds from the food matrix to the digestive fluids and their eventual ***,this study aims at evaluating the influence of the food matrix on the liberation and final bioaccessibility of bioactive compounds with positive impact on macular health in different tiger nut products(flour,oil,and milk with and without added sucrose).The in vitro digestibility of macronutrients and the release of vitamin E,lutein,zeaxanthin,β-carotene,and total polyphenols of tiger nut products was *** addition,the antioxidant activity of the bioaccessible fraction was determined by ABTS,DPPh and FRAP *** showed that tiger nut milk resulted in the greatest proteolysis and total polyphenols ***,flour can contribute to hypoglycaemia and,alongside oil,were the best sources of carotenoids and vitamin *** digestion increased the antioxidant activity of milk,but the addition of sucrose decreased this *** food matrix was a highly relevant factor protecting or hindering the digestion and release of bioactive compounds in the digestive ***,tiger nut products are presented as ingredients with great potential to develop functional foods oriented to macular health.
