Carcinoembryonic Antigen as a p.ognostic Factor in Colorectal Cancer with Liver Metastases

Aim: The objective of this study was to investigate the p.ognostic value of serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level in colorectal cancer p.tients with liver metastases. The serum CEA level was recorded at the p.int of metastasis diagnosis, differing from the majority of literature looking at p.eop.rative metastasectomy CEA level. Methods: From January 2010 to December 2014, 138 p.tients with a diagnosis of colorectal cancer and liver metastases were included in the study—p.p.lation from Buenos Aires, Argentina. p.tients with both resectable and unresectable liver metastases were followed up.over a 4-year p.riod. Kap.an Meier survival analysis was used to p.oduce survival curves that were comp.red by log-rank test. Results: The overall survival for all p.tients studied with a CEA p.red to p.tients with CEA ≥ 100 ng/mL (p.p.ctively. For p.tients with unresectable metastases, a low CEA level (p.= 0.036). Conclusions: In our p.tient cohort, this study indicated that a low CEA level (p.ognostic indicator for imp.oving survival in p.tients with colorectal liver metastases. These findings highlight the imp.rtance of measuring serum CEA levels in this group.of p.tients at the time of liver metastasis diagnosis.
