meningoencephalitis secondary to Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) mainly affects newborns, the elderly and immunocompromised people;there are extremely rare cases in which said infection occurs in immunocompetent individuals. We present the case of a young adult patient without immunocompromise, who developed meningoencephalitis due to L. monocytogenes;This case is exceptional, since it occurred in an individual outside the classic age group, in addition to not having risk factors, which is why it should be considered an atypical causal agent.

Dieulafoy’s lesions are rare vascular malformations of the gastrointestinal tract. A Dieulafoy’s lesion is an aberrant vessel that does not reduce in caliber when it extends from the submucosa to the mucosa. Damage to this artery can cause severe and intermittent arterial bleeding from small vascular stumps that are difficult to visualize. Furthermore, these catastrophic bleeding episodes frequently result in hemodynamic instability and the need for transfusion of multiple blood products. Recently, uremic syndrome has been identified as a risk factor for gastric mucosal lesions. We present two clinical cases of acute digestive bleeding due to Dielafoy lesion with chronic kidney disease as the main cause, where two different therapies were performed endoscopically. We concluded with the results of our patients that the best therapy was the application of the hemostatic hemoclip on the injury vs the injection with adrenaline on the wound site. Uremia is identified as a risk factor for upper gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with pre-existing Dieulafoy’s lesion, as well as a higher incidence of new bleeding.

Water disinfection is an essential process that provides safe water by inactivating pathogens that cause waterborne diseases. However, disinfectants react with organic matter naturally present in water, leading to the formation of disinfection by-products(DBPs). multi-analyte methods based on mass spectrometry(mS) are preferred to quantify multiple DBP classes at once however, most require extensive sample pre-treatment and significant resources. In this study, two analytical methods were developed for the quantification of 32 regulated and unregulated DBPs. A purge and trap(P&T) coupled with gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GC-mS) method was optimized that automated sample pre-treatment and analyzed volatile and semi-volatile compounds, including trihalomethanes(THms), iodinated trihalomethanes(I-THms), haloacetonitriles(HANs), haloketones(HKTs) and halonitromethanes(HNms). LOQs were between 0.02-0.4 μg/L for most DBPs except for 8 analytes that were in the low μg/L range. A second method with liquid chromatography(LC) tandem mass spectrometry(mS/mS) was developed for the quantification of 10 haloacetic acids(HAAs) with a simple clean-up and direct injection. The LC-mS/mS direct injection method has the lowest detection limits reported(0.2-0.5 μg/L). Both methods have a simple sample pre-treatment, which make it possible for routine analysis. Hyperchlorination and uniform formation conditions(UFC) formation potential tests with chlorine were evaluated with water samples containing high and low TOC. Hyperchlorination formation potential test maximized THms and HAAs while UFC maximized HANs. Ascorbic acid was found to be an appropriate quencher for both analytical methods. Disinfected drinking water from four water utilities in Alberta, Canada were also evaluated.

Background:A key step in gene expression is the recognition of the stop codon to terminate translation at the correct ***,it has been observed that ribosomes can misinterpret the stop codon and continue the translation in the 3′UTR *** phenomenon is called stop codon read-through(SCR).It has been suggested that these events would occur on a programmed basis,but the underlying mechanisms are still not well ***:Here,we present a strategy for the comprehensive identification of SCR events in the Drosophila melanogaster transcriptome by evaluating the ribosomal density *** associated ribosomal leak rate was estimated for every event identified.A statistical characterization of the frequency of nucleotide use in the proximal region to the stop codon in the sequences associated to SCR events was ***:The results show that the nucleotide usage pattern in transcripts with the UGA codon is different from the pattern for those transcripts ending in the UAA codon,suggesting the existence of at least two mechanisms that could alter the translational termination ***,a linear regression models for each of the three stop codons was developed,and we show that the models using the nucleotides at informative positions outperforms those models that consider the entire sequence context to the stop ***:We report that distal nucleotides can affect the SCR rate in a stop-codon dependent manner.

This study investigates the recent near-surface temperature trends over the Antarctic *** make use of available surface observations,ECmWF’s ERA5 and its predecessor ERA-Interim,as well as numerical simulations,allowing us to contrast different data *** use hindcast simulations performed with Polar-WRF over the Antarctic Peninsula on a nested domain configuration at 45 km(PWRF-45)and 15 km(PWRF-15)spatial resolutions for the period 1991?*** addition,we include hindcast simulations of KNmI-RACmO21P obtained from the CORDEX-Antarctica domain(~50 km)for further *** show that there is a marked windward warming trend except during *** windward warming trend is particularly notable in the autumn season and likely to be associated with the recent deepening of the Amundsen/Bellingshausen Sea low and warm advection towards the Antarctic *** the other hand,an overall summer cooling is characterized by the strengthening of the Weddell Sea low as well as an anticyclonic trend over the Amundsen Sea accompanied by northward *** persistent cooling trend observed at the Larsen Ice Shelf station is not captured by ERA-Interim,whereas hindcast simulations indicate that there is a clear pattern of windward warming and leeward ***,larger temporal correlations and lower differences exhibited by PWRF-15 illustrate the existence of the added value in the higher spatial resolution simulation.

Capillary hydrodynamic fractionation（CHDF） with turbidity detection at a single wavelength is an analytical technique that is often used for sizing the sub-micrometric particles of hydrophobic *** article investigates three sources of errors that affect the particle size distribution（PSD） estimated by CHDF：diameter calibration errors,uncertainties in the particle refractive index（PRI）,and instrumental broadening（IB）.The study is based on simulated and experimental examples that involve unimodal and bimodal *** errors in the diameter calibration curve can produce important deviations in the number average diameter due to systematic shifts suffered by the PSD *** uncertainties in the PRI are unimportant in the analysis of unimodal PSDs,but in the specific case of bimodal PSDs,errors in the PRI can strongly affect the estimated number concentration of each *** typical IB correction（based on the IB function estimated from narrow standards） produces slightly erroneous average diameters but can lead to PSDs with underestimated widths and distorted *** practice,the three investigated sources of errors can be present simultaneously,and uncertainties in the average diameters,the shape and width of the PSD,and the number concentration of the PSD modes are unavoidable.

The E2F/DP pathway is a widely conserved regulatory mechanism in pluricellular *** family of E2F and DP transcription factors was originally described having a role in the transition from the G1 to the S phase of the cell ***,the discovery of hundreds of possible gene targets and their involvement in many other biochemical processes,soon showed that they participated in cell development and differentiation,chromatin remodeling,DNA repair and *** E2F/DP transcription factors can act as either activators or repressors of transcription depending on their association to other regulatory proteins,particularly the retinoblastoma protein,or even depending to their protein structure that can define their *** plants the E2F/DP pathway also regulates endoreduplication,a process present along the life cycle,from organ elongation to root differentiation and *** transcription factors also help plant cells to respond to environmental disturbances such as those caused by different types of radiation,or by *** review focuses on the“so called”non-canonical functions of the E2F/DP family proteins in animal and plant cells,that are in fact essential activities that connect regulatory circuits among multiple metabolic pathways by means of their atypical functions.

A shallow subtidal （3 m deep） meiofaunal assemblage in Los Abrigos Bay, Tenerife, Canary Islands was sam- pled during may 2000-April 2001. The main aims were to （1） find temporal variations in meiofaunal assem- blage structure and overall abundance, as well as in the most abundant meiofaunal species throughout the study period, and （2） identify environmental variables （sedimentary composition, organic matter content, and total nitrogen） that better explain meiofaunal assemblage structure during the study year. The most abundant species were the nematodes Siphonolaimus sp. 2 and Catanema sp., which represented 46.2% of the overall meiofaunal abundances and varied significantly throughout the study duration. Overall meio- faunal abundance and the most abundant taxonomic groups （nematodes, copepods, and oligochaetes） showed significant temporal variations during the study period. Nematodes overwhelmingly dominated during the study period, ranging from 78% in may to 97.34% in February. multivariate analyses showed seasonality in meiofaunal community structure during the study year, with the lowest abundances in may.
