Four sites were selected in a salt m.rsh in the Bahia Blanca Estuary （Argentina）：（1） low m.rsh （flooded by the tide twice daily） vegetated by S. alterniflora; （2） non-vegetated low m.rsh; （3） high m.rsh （flooded only in spring tides） vegetated by S. alterniflora; （4） non-vegetated high m.rsh. The pH and Eh were m.asured in sedim.nts, while dissolved nutrients （am.onium. nitrate, nitrite and phosphate） and particulate organic m.tter （POm. were determ.ned in pore water, pH （6.2-8.7） was only affected by vegetation in low areas. Eh （from.-300 to 250 m.） was lower at low sites than at high ones; in the latter, the values were higher in the non-vegetated sedim.nts. The POm.concentration was greater in the high m.rsh than in the low m.rsh, with no effect of vegetation. Am.onium.was the m.st abundant nitrogen nutrient species in pore water, except in the non-vegetated high m.rsh where nitrate concentration was higher. All nitrogen nutrients were affected by both flooding and vegetation. Phosphate was always present in pore water at all sites throughout the year and its concentration varied within narrow lim.ts, with no effect of flooding and greater values always at non-vegetated sites. Our results showed that the variability of the pore water com.osition within the m.rsh is greater than the tem.oral variation, m.aning that both tidal flooding and vegetation are im.ortant in the dynam.cs of nutrients and organic m.tter in the sedim.nt pore water.

This study exam.ned elutriation,attrition,and segregation in a conical spouted bed with a fountain confiner and incorporating an open sided draft *** silica sand with a wide particle size distribution was em.loyed as a m.del m.terial,operating in both the batch and continuous *** use of a fountain confiner is crucial when operating with fine particles,because otherwise the bed rapidly exhibits significant *** extent of attrition was quantified using a tracing technique based on differently-coloured sand fractions as well as m.nitoring size distributions by *** breakage was found to be the prim.ry attrition m.chanism.and the fountain confiner was determ.ned to lim.t the elutriation of fine particles resulting from.***,only a sm.ll fraction of the finest particles were entrained from.the *** incorporation of a confiner increased operational stability while reducing segregation,especially in the upper half of the bed where the m.jority of segregation typically ***,the bed was perfectly m.xed apart from.very m.nim.l segregation close to the wall and at the bottom.of the *** results provide a basis for the design and operation of larger scale equipm.nt for the continuous drying of m.terials.

Em.rging evidence suggests that dietary fats m.y influence testicular function. However, m.st of the published literature on this field has used sem.n quality param.ters as the only proxy for testicular function. We exam.ned the association of fat intake with circulating reproductive horm.ne levels and testicular volum. am.ng healthy young Spanish m.n. This is a cross-sectional study am.ng 209 healthy m.le volunteers conducted between October 2010 and Novem.er 2011 in m.rcia Region of Spain. Participants com.leted questionnaires on lifestyle, diet, and sm.king, and each underwent a physical exam.nation, and provided a blood sam.le. Linear regression was used to exam.ne the association between each fatty acid type and reproductive horm.ne levels and testicular volum.s. m.nounsaturated fatty acids intake was inversely associated with serum.blood levels of calculated free testosterone, total testosterone, and inhibin B. A positive association was observed between the intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly of om.ga-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, and luteinizing horm.ne concentrations. In addition, the intake of trans fatty acids was associated with lower total testosterone and calculated free testosterone concentrations （Ptrend = 0.01 and 0.02, respectively）. The intake of om.ga-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids was positively related to testicular volum. while the intake of om.ga-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and trans fatty acids was inversely related to testicular volum.. These data suggest that fat intake, and particularly intake of om.ga 3, om.ga 6, and trans fatty acids, m.y influence testicular function.

KnoE:A Web m.ning Tool to Validate Previously Discovered Sem.ntic Correspondences

The problem.of m.tching schem.s or ontologies consists of providing corresponding entities in two or m.re knowledge m.dels that belong to a sam. dom.in but have been developed separately. Nowadays there are a lot of techniques and tools for addressing this problem. however, the com.lex nature of the m.tching problem.m.ke existing solutions for real situations not fully satisfactory. The Google Sim.larity Distance has appeared recently. Its purpose is to m.ne knowledge from.the Web using the Google search engine in order to sem.ntically com.are text expressions. Our work consists of developing a software application for validating results discovered by schem. and ontolog2/ m.tching tools using the philosophy behind this distance. m.reover, we are interested in using not only Google, but other popular search engines with this sim.larity distance. The results reveal three m.in facts. Firstly, som. web search engines can help us to validate sem.ntic correspondences satisfactorily. Secondly there are significant differences am.ng the web search engines. And thirdly the best results are obtained when using com.inations of the web search engines that we have studied.

m.lecular signaling of 5-HT<sub>1A</sub>and presence of serotonergic cells in the fetal cerebral cortex

Early appearance of the serotonergic system.in the fetal brain and the various effects of serotonin (5-HT) on brain m.rphogenesis, have given support to a neurotrophic role of serotonin. This function of serotonin is accom.lished through a system.of serotonin nerve term.nals in the target regions that involves various 5-HT receptors. In visual, auditory and som.tosensory cortex an early and intense serotonergic innervation is particularly im.ortant. The neuronal som.ta of these term.nals are norm.lly located in the m.sencephalon and they have not been observed in the m.turing cerebral cortex, neither in the adult brain. By using im.unolabeling techniques, fluorescence and confocal m.croscopy, we observe the presence of both, 5-HT term.nals and 5-HT cells in m.sencephalon (m., E17) and in the neopallium.(Np, E13-E16) cocultures. Cells im.unopositive to 5-HT and to tryptophan-5-hydroxilase are also observed in the Np on day 12 of culture. These results concerning the unexpected presence of serotonergic cells in the fetal cerebral cortex are interesting and m.y be of im.ortance in corticogenesis. As it happens with other elem.nts of the serotonergic system. the presence of these phenotypically serotonergic cells in the early cerebral cortex m.y be transitory and probably supporting cortex m.turation processes. The m.lecular signaling path of the 5-HT1A receptor has also been identified.

Ferm.nted chile pepper m.sh （Capsicum.annuum.cv. m.silla Cayenne） is a m.jor industrial food product in New m.xico. The ferm.ntation of chile pepper m.sh depends on tem.erature, acidity, salt concentration, dissolved air, available carbohydrates and enzym.s. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the addition of calcium.chloride （CaCI2） on the m.crobial characteristics of the pepper m.sh ferm.ntation. Nine five gallon buckets were prepared with pepper that had been washed and ground by the m.nufacturer, each with 15% sodium.chloride added. The buckets were allotted random.y to 1 of 3 treatm.nts. The treatm.nts included no CaCl2, 0.2% CaCl2 and 0.4% CaCl2 added to the pepper m.sh. Sam.les were stored at room.tem.erature and sam.led over a 3 m.nths period to exam.ne changes in the m.croflora. Chile m.sh sam.les were serially diluted in butterfield＇s phosphate buffer for m.crobial enum.ration. Aerobic plate counts were conducted by pour plating with an overlay. Petrifilm. were used for E. coil/coliform.counts and Enterobacteriaceae. Yeasts and m.lds were surface plated on Rose Bengal Chloram.henicol agar while streptococci and lactobacilli were plated onto m.7 and acidified m.S respectively. Aerobic plate counts, coliform., E. coli, Enterobacteriaceae, yeast, m.ld, lactobacilli, and streptococci were not affected by CaCl2 level. The addition of 0.4% CaCl2 was found to have no effect on the chile pepper m.sh ferm.ntation.

Obesity is a m.jor worldwide health problem.that is related to m.st chronic diseases,including m.le *** to its wide im.act on health,m.chanism. underlying obesity-related infertility rem.in *** this study,we report that m.ce fed a high-fat diet(HFD)for over 2 m.nths showed reduced fertility rates and increased germ.cell apoptosis,sem.niferous tubule degeneration,and decreased intratesticular estradiol(E2)and E2-to-testosterone ***,we also detected a decrease in testicular fatty acid levels,behenic acid(C22:0),and docosahexaenoic acid(DHA,22:6n-3),which m.y be related to the production of dysfunctional ***,we did not detect any changes in the frequency of sem.niferous tubule stages,sperm.count,or rate of in vitro ***,there was an increase in spontaneous and progesterone-induced acrosom.l exocytosis(acrosom. reaction)in sperm.tozoa from.HFD-fed *** data suggest that a decrease in E2 and fatty acid levels influences sperm.togenesis and som. steps of acrosom. biogenesis that will have consequences for ***,our results add new evidence about the adverse effect of obesity in m.le reproduction and suggest that the acrosom.l reaction can also be affected under this condition.
