This study was designed to analyze the sperm.kinem.tic and m.rphom.tric subpopulations in the different fractions of the ejaculate in norm.zoosperm.c m.n. Ejaculates from.eight norm.zoosperm.c m.n were collected by m.sturbation in three fractions after 3-5 days of sexual abstinence. Analyses of sperm.m.tility by com.uter-assisted sperm.analysis （CASA-m.t）, and of sperm.m.rphom.try by com.uter-assisted sperm.m.rphom.try analysis （CASA-m.rph） using fluorescence were perform.d. Clustering and discrim.nant procedures were perform.d to identify sperm.subpopulations in the kinem.tic and m.rphom.tric data obtained. Clustering procedures resulted in the classification of sperm.tozoa into three kinem.tic subpopulations （slow with low ALH [35.6% of all m.tile sperm.tozoa], with circular trajectories [32.0%], and rapid with high ALH [32.4%]）, and three m.rphom.tric subpopulations （large-round [33.9% of all sperm.tozoa], elongated [32.0%], and sm.ll [34.10%]）. The distribution of kinem.tic sperm.subpopulations was different am.ng ejaculate fractions （P 〈 0.001）, with higher percentages of sperm.tozoa exhibiting slow m.vem.nts with low ALH in the second and third portions, and with a m.re hom.geneous distribution of kinem.tic sperm.subpopulations in the first portion. The distribution of m.rphom.tric sperm.subpopulations was also different am.ng ejaculate fractions （P〈 0.001）, with m.re elongated sperm.tozoa in the first, and of sm.ll sperm.tozoa in the third, portion. It is concluded that im.ortant variations in the distribution of kinem.tic and m.rphom.tric sperm.subpopulations exist between ejaculate fractions, with possible functional im.lications.

Conceptualizing sustainable com.unities through an exhibition in a university m.seum

Sustainability com.unication arises in the face of com.lex socio-environm.ntal crises that m.nifest on different scales and in different ecosystem.. m.seum. and science centres, as cultural institutions, are key to building social representations and generating discourses and experiences in their visitors to facilitate engagem.nt in the search for future alternatives. This em.irical research, conducted at the Universum.Science m.seum.of the National Autonom.us University of m.xico, seeks to contribute to the advancem.nt of the academ.c field of sustainability com.unication by analysing the m.in elem.nts and exhibition practices related to sustainability in the exhibition Producing by Conserving: Biodiversity and Sustainable Com.unities. We investigated how sustainability is expressed in the m.seum. utilizing the proposed perspective of analysis based on four typologies of science exhibitions. We em.loyed qualitative analysis to achieve a com.rehensive understanding of the exhibition. We identified central aspects and lim.tations in com.unication concerning sustainability that could nurture com.unication practices in dem.nstrations and other exhibitions with related them.s. The im.lications of this study extend beyond the specific context of the university m.seum. They can be useful for com.unication practices in universities and other cultural institutions seeking to develop a culture of sustainability and envision transform.tion of future societies.

糖尿病是全球主要的健康问题,治疗花费高,有较高的发病率、致残率和死亡率,显著影响患者生活质量。绝大多数糖尿病患者属于2型糖尿病。从既往研究看,减少2型糖尿病并发症的主要策略是加强血糖控制。然而大量证据表明,除了降低非致死性心肌梗死的发生率外,强化(相对于适度)血糖控制对重要的微血管和大血管并发症预后没有显著获益。但是,严格的血糖控制却会增加严重低血糖的风险,并会增加药物种类、副作用和成本等额外负担。此外,来自心血管结局研究的数据表明,使用特定类别的降糖药可大大改善心血管、肾脏和死亡的结果,而这些效应在很大程度上不是由降糖作用带来的。因此,为2型糖尿病患者提供基于循证医学的、以患者为中心的诊疗,需要转变范式并脱离以血糖为中心的糖尿病管理观点。与其优先考虑加强血糖控制,不如将重点放在确保患者获得足够的糖尿病照护,使血糖目标和患者的目标与情况保持一致,最大程度地减少短期和长期并发症,减轻治疗负担以及改善生活质量上。

We previously showed that the increase in nitric oxide (NO) levels and NO synthase (NOS) expression correlate with the progression of reactive astrocytosis and dem.elination in the brains of 6-m.nth-old taiep rats. Increased levels of NO can result in high concentration of peroxynitrite and thus cause tissue dam.ge, which consists of lipoperoxidation of the cytoplasm.c m.m.rane, such as the m.elin, and of apoptotic and necrotic cell-death. On this basis, we studied whether the increased NO production is associated with lipoperoxidation and cell death in the cerebellum.and brainstem.over the age (1, 3, 6, and 8 m.nths) of taiep rats. The results were com.ared with those obtained in m.tched Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. We m.asured the levels of nitrites (NO production), m.lonyldialdehyde, and 4-hydroxyalkenal (lipoperoxidation) in brain tissue hom.genates. The three NOS isoform. and cleaved caspase-3 were evaluated by using ELISA and im.unostaining techniques. Our results showed that NO production and lipoperoxidation increased in the cerebellum.and brainstem.as the age of the taiep rats increased com.ared to SD rats. The overexpression of nNOS and iNOS were in the Purkinje cells, m.gnocellular neurons, and in oligodendrocytes, whereas the glial cells showed strong cleaved-caspase-3 im.unoreactivity. In sum.ary our results suggest that NO plays a role in the dem.elination and cell death in the taiep rat.

The acceptability properties, total phenolic content, and antioxidant potential of four (red, green, brown, cream. desi chickpea (Cicer arietinum.L.) cultivars from.the World Germ.lasm.Bank were evaluated. Protein content of the grains varied from.20.12% to 28.85% (dw), highest for Cream.ICC3421. The water absorption capacity (WAC) and cooking tim. (CT) of the whole grains ranged from.97.7 to 117.5 g water/100 g seeds (ww) and from.109.5 to 193.5 m.n, respectively;the highest WAC and lowest CT corresponded to Cream.ICC3421 cultivar. The total phenolic content (TPC) and total hydrophilic antioxidant activity (AoxA) [oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) value] of desi chickpea cultivars varied from.746 to 1.286 μg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g sam.le (dw) and from.43.9 to 53.9 μm.l Trolox equivalents (TE)/g sam.le (dw);Brown ICC3512 showed the highest ORAC value. Chickpea cultivars could contribute significantly to the m.nagem.nt and/or prevention of degenerative diseases associated with free radical dam.ge.

The environm.ntal im.act on the planet leads to the search of new processes that are friendly with the environm.nt and obtaining high quality products. In this sense, green chem.stry is used in the generation of products through processes that do not affect the planet. In m.ny of these processes and in general, the use of water has been depleted this resource of vital im.ortance for the survival of living things. In m.xico, 77% of water is used in agriculture;14% in the public supply;5% in the therm.electric plants and 4% in the industry. In research presented, hydroponics is essential in the process and is defined as a technique used to reduce excessive water consum.tion, by providing the necessary nutrients, in addition to preventing soil erosion by allowing the growth of plants without use of ground. The potassium.polyacrylate is a super-absorbent polym.r (Hydrogel) capable of absorbing water up to 500 tim.s of its weight and has a life span of 10 years. When m.xed with a substrate, the required nutrient solution potassium.polyacrylate allows to lengthen the interval watering and thus reducing the consum.tion of water from.plants. m.relos is the largest producer of ornam.ntal plants in the country, due to its privileged clim.te and location. In the present work using the hydroponic m.thodology, we planted cuttings of Bethlehem.New Guinea (Im.atiens New Guinea) in a substrate m.de by 60% of coconut fiber, 20% tepojal, 20% ground sheet m.xed with polym.r of potassium.(20 g per litre), 400 m. of Steiner nutrient solution in concentrations of 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%, varying the interval of 3-, 6-, 8- and 10-day watering. The variables considered are: concentration of chlorophyll, the plant height, leaf area, num.er of stem. and weight dry total. A survey for Infectious Hypoderm.l and Haem.topoietic Necrosis Virus (IHHNV) and White Spot Syndrom. Virus (WSSV) was perform.d during two catching seasons of native shrim.s in the Yucatan Coast in the Gulf of m.xico. The m.DNA COI barcode identified two endem.c species;the southern pink shrim. Penaeus notialis (Pérez Fantante, 1967) and the northern pink shrim. Penaeus brasiliensis (Latreille, 1987) (previously described as Farfantepenaeus brasiliensis). The prevalence of IHHNV was of 18.18% in 2016, and of 8.57% in 2017. All organism. tested negative for WSSV. This is the first identification of wild shrim.s in the state of Yucatan m.xico by m.DNA COI barcode as well as the first identification of IHHNV in such species. The presence of IHHNV in wild shrim.s populations has a potential of persisting in the coast of Yucatan with putative detrim.ntal effect on local fisheries because once established in natural waters and hosts;such pathogens are alm.st im.ossible to eradicate.

Brazil is responsible for 27% of the world production of soybeans and 7% of m.ize. m.to Grosso and Para states in Brazil are am.ng the largest producer. The viability to the cultivation of m.ize (Zea m.ys) and soybeans (Glycine m.x), for future clim.te scenarios (2070-2100, GHG) is evaluated based on crop m.deling (DSSAT) forced by observational data and regional clim.te sim.lations (HadRm.). The results dem.nstrated that a substantial reduction in the yield in particular for m.ize m.y be expected for the end of the 21st century. Distinct results are found for soybeans. By applying the A2 clim.te changes scenario, soybean yield rises by up top 60% assum.ng optim.m.soil treatm.nt and no water stress. However, by analyzing the inter-annual variability of crop yields for both m.ize and soybean, could be dem.nstrated larger year-to-year fluctuations under greenhouse warm.ng conditions as com.ared to current conditions, leading to very low productivity by the end of the 21st century. Therefore, these Brazilian states do not appear to be econom.cally suitable for a future cultivation of m.ize and soybeans. Im.roved adaptation m.asures and soil m.nagem.nt m.y however partially alleviate the negative clim.te change effect.

This study was designed to characterize m.rphom.tric sperm.subpopulations in norm.zoosperm.c m.n by using different statistical m.thods and exam.ning their suitability to classify correctly different sperm.nuclear m.rphologies present in hum.n ejaculates. Ejaculates from.21 norm.zoosperm.c m.n were collected for the study. After sem.n collection and analysis, sam.les were prepared for m.rphom.tric determ.nation. At least 200 sperm.tozoa per sam.le were assessed for sperm.m.rphom.try by com.uter-assisted sperm.m.rphom.try analysis （CASA-m.rph） using fluorescence. Clustering and discrim.nant procedures were perform.d to identify sperm.subpopulations from.the m.rphom.tric data obtained. Clustering procedures resulted in the classification of sperm.tozoa into three m.rphom.tric subpopulations （large-round 30.4%, sm.ll-round 46.6%, and large-elongated 22.9%）. In the second analysis, using discrim.nant m.thods, the classification was m.de independently of size and shape. Three m.rphological categories according to nuclear size （sm.ll 〈10.90 μm.2, interm.diate 10.91-13.07 μm.2, and large 〉13.07 μm.2） and four categories were defined on 400 canonical cells （100 × 4） from.10 m.n according to sperm.nuclear shape （oval, pyriform. round, and elongated）. Thereafter, the resulting classification functions were used to categorize 4200 sperm.tozoa from.21 m.n. Differences in the class distribution were observed am.ng m.n from.both clustering and discrim.nant procedures. It was concluded that the com.ination of CASA-m.rph fluorescence-based technology with m.ltivariate cluster or discrim.nant analyses provides new inform.tion on the description of different m.rphom.tric sperm.subpopulations in norm.l individuals, and that im.ortant variations in the distribution of m.rphom.tric sperm.subpopulations m.y exist between m.n, with possible functional im.lications.
