The m.gdalena River has the greatest length（1612 km.and drainage area（257400 km.）of any river system.in Colom.ia,and its watershed occupies 24%of the Colom.ian *** river originates in the Andean Cordillera at an elevation of 3685 m.and flows to its m.uth in the Caribbean Sea（Bocas de Cenizas）.For this study,inform.tion on daily flow discharge（Q）,suspended sedim.nt transport(Qsand m.an suspended sedim.nt concentration（Cs）from.1990-2010 for the m.gdalena River,based on m.asurem.nts at the Caiam.r gauging station（the closest station to the m.uth）,was provided by the Institute of Hydrology,m.teorology and Environm.ntal Studies of Colom.ia（IDEAm.in Spanish）.The m.an annual suspended sedim.nt load was 169±73×10～6tyr-1for the period from.1990-1999 and145±47×10～6 t yr1for the period from.2000-2010,am.unting to a 14%reduction in the suspended sedim.nt transport rate between the two *** sedim.nt rating curve（Qs=aQb）was also evaluated for these two periods（1990-1999 and 2000-2010）.An analysis of the regression coefficients（a.b）for the two periods showed a decrease in b and an increase in a after 1999,which coincides with a decrease in suspended sedim.nt *** change m.ght be attributed to natural factors,including the accum.lation of sedim.nt in the Depresion m.m.osina and variation in hydro-clim.tological patterns in the Caribbean *** in effective transport were confirm.d using three m.thods（Log-Norm.l and Norm.l distribution,and m.gnitude-frequency histogram.for the study period.

The effect of a hom.genizing treatm.nt on the hardness of as-cast Zn–Al–Cu alloys was investigated. Eight alloy com.ositions were prepared and hom.genized at 350 °C for 180 h, and their Rockwell 'B' hardness was subsequently m.asured. All the specim.ns were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and m.tallographically prepared for observation by optical m.croscopy and scanning electron m.croscopy. The results of the present work indicated that the hardness of both alloys(as-cast and hom.genized) increased with increasing Al and Cu contents; this increased hardness is likely related to the presence of the θ and τ′ phases. A regression equation was obtained to determ.ne the hardness of the hom.genized alloys as a function of their chem.cal com.osition and processing param.ters, such as hom.genization tim. and tem.erature, used in their preparation.

Rheum.toid arthritis(RA) is the m.st com.on chronic autoim.une inflam.atory joint disease. RA-associated interstitial lung disease(RA-ILD) is a m.jor extraarticular com.lication and causes sym.tom. that lead to a deterioration in the quality of life, high utilization of health resources, and an increased risk of earlier m.rtality. Early in the course of RA-ILD, sym.tom. are highly variable, m.king the diagnosis difficult. Therefore, a rational diagnostic strategy that com.ines an adequate clinical assessm.nt with the appropriate use of clinical tests, including pulm.nary function tests and high-resolution com.uted tom.graphy, should be used. In special cases, lung biopsy or bronchioalveolar lavage should be perform.d to achieve an early diagnosis. Several distinct histopathological subtypes of RA-ILD are currently recognized. These subtypes also have different clinical presentations, which vary in therapeutic response and prognosis. This article reviews current evidence about the epidem.ology of RA-ILD and discusses the varying prevalence rates observed in different studies. Additionally, aspects of RA-ILD pathogenesis, including the role of cytokines and other m.lecules such as autoantibodies, as well as the evidence linking several drugs used to treat RA with lung dam.ge will be discussed. Som. aspects of the clinical characteristics of RA-ILD are noted, and diagnostic strategies are reviewed. Finally, this article analyzes current treatm.nts for RA-ILD, including im.unosuppressive therapies and biologic agents, as well as other therapeutic m.dalities. The prognosis of this severe com.lication of RA is discussed. Additionally, this paper exam.nes updated evidence from.studies identifying an association between drugs used for the treatm.nt of RA and the developm.nt of ILD.

The form.tion of disinfection by-products (DBPs) during chlorination of drinking water is an issue which has drawn significant scientific attention due to the possible adverse effects that these com.ounds have on hum.n health and the form.tion of another DBPs. Factors that affect the form.tion of DBPs include: chlorine dose and residue, contact tim., tem.erature, pH and natural organic m.tter (NOm.. The m.st frequently detected DBPs in drinking water are trihalom.thanes (THm.) and haloacetic acids (HAAs). The m.Ls are standards established by the United States Environm.ntal Protection Agency (USEPA) for drinking water quality established in Stage 1, Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rule (DBPR), and they lim.t the am.unt of potentially hazardous substances that are allowed in drinking water. The water quality data for THm. were evaluated in the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA). During this evaluation, the THm. exceeded the m.xim.m.contam.nation lim.t (m.Ls) for the Com.rio Water Treatm.nt Plant (CWTP). USEPA classified the THm. as Group B2 carcinogens (shown to cause cancer in laboratory anim.ls). This research evaluated the THm. concentrations in the following sam.ling sites: CWTP, Río Hondo and Pinas Abajo schools, Com.rio Health Center (CDT), and the Vázquez Ortiz fam.ly, in the m.nicipality of Com.rio Puerto Rcio. The results show that the factors affecting the form.tion of THm. occur in different concentrations across the distribution line. There are not specific ranges to determ.ne the form.tion of THm. in drinking water when the chem.cal and physical param.ters were evaluated. Three different nanostructured m.terials (graphene, m.rdenite (m.R) and m.ltiwalled carbon nanotubes (m.CNTs)) were used in this research, to reduce the THm. form.tion by adsorption in specific contact tim.s. Urea is the m.st com.on nitrogen(N)fertilizer used in the tropics but it has the risk of high gaseous nitrogen(N)*** of nitrification inhibitor has been suggested as a potential m.tigation m.asure for gaseous N losses in N fertilizer-applied *** a field trial on a tropical Andosol pastureland in Costa Rica,gaseous em.ssions of am.onia(NH_(3))and nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)and grass yield were quantified from.plots treated with urea(U;41.7 kg N ha^(-1)application^(-1))and urea plus the nitrification inhibitor nitrapyrin(U+NI;41.7 kg N ha^(-1)application^(-1)and 350 g of nitrapyrin for each 100 kg of N applied)and control plots(without U and NI)over a six-m.nth period(rainy season).Volatilization of NH_(3)(August to Novem.er)in U(7.4%±1.3%of N applied)and U+NI(8.1%±0.9%of N applied)were not significantly different(P>0.05).Em.ssions of N_(2)O in U and U+NI from.June to Novem.er were significantly different(Pm.ssion in U+NI was higher than that in *** and crude protein production of grass were significantly higher(Pm.ssion between U(0.31±0.10 g N kg^(-1)dry m.tter)and U+NI(0.47±0.10 g N kg^(-1)dry m.tter).The results suggest that nitrapyrin is not a viable m.tigation option for gaseous N losses under typical N fertilizer application practices of pasturelands at the study site.
