Breastfeeding is considered to be the key variable for infant health. Consequently, UNICEF and the World Health Organization promote the beginning of breastfeeding within the first hour after birth and recommend to exclusively breastfeed the infant during the first six months. The origins of these modern breastfeeding campaigns can be traced back to the beginning of the twentieth century. Whereas high infant mortality rates traditionally were considered to be a matter of fate and the declining birth rates towards the end of the nineteenth century raised fears about the nation’s future and led to the emergence of an increasing infant welfare movement in imperial Germany. As low breastfeeding rates were identified as a key factor behind the high infant mortality rates, the main objective of the infant care movement was to increase breastfeeding. The paper examines how the context of infant care and infant mortality was constructed and how breastfeeding campaigns in the context of infant mortality, breastfeeding rates and socio-political changes developed during the twentieth century. Thus the paper covers the period from the beginnings of social paediatrics at the beginning of the 20th century, the breastfeeding campaigns embedded into Nazi ideology during the Third Reich, until the declining breastfeeding ratios and the “feeding on demand”-movement in the 1970s as well as the ideological differences between West and East Germany during the Cold War.

Complex protein interaction networks constitute plant metabolic and signaling systems. Bimolecular fluorescence complementation （BiFC） is a suitable technique to investigate the formation of protein complexes and the localization of protein-protein interactions in planta. However, the generation of large plasmid collections to facilitate the exploration of complex interaction networks is often limited by the need for conventional cloning techniques. Here, we report the implementation of a GATEWAY vector system enabling large-scale combination and investigation of candidate proteins in BiFC studies. We describe a set of 12 GATEWAY-compatible BiFC vectors that efficiently permit the combination of candidate protein pairs with every possible N-or C-terminal sub-fragment of s（CFP）3A or Venus, respectively, and enable the performance of multicolor BiFC （mcBiFC）. We used proteins of the plant molybdenum metabolism, in that more than 20 potentially interacting proteins are assumed to form the cellular molybdenum network, as a case study to establish the functionality of the new vectors. Using these vectors, we report the formation of the molybdopterin synthase complex by interaction of Arabidopsis proteins Cnx6 and Cnx7 detected by BiFC as well as the simultaneous formation of Cnx6/Cnx6 and Cnx6/Cnx7 complexes revealed by mcBiFC. Consequently, these GATEWAY-based BiFC vector systems should significantly facilitate the large-scale investigation of complex regulatory networks in plant cells.

In the last years, increasing smartphones’ capabilities have caused a paradigm shift in the way of users’ view and using mobile devices. Although researchers have started to focus on behavioral models to explain and predict human behavior, there is limited empirical research about the influence of smartphone users’ individual differences on the usage of security measures. The aim of this study is to examine the influence of individual differences on cognitive determinants of behavioral intention to use security measures. Individual differences are measured by the Five-Factor Model;cognitive determinants of behavioral intention are adapted from the validated behavioral models theory of planned behavior and technology acceptance model. An explorative, quantitative survey of 435 smartphone users is served as data basis. The results suggest that multiple facets of smartphone user’s personalities significantly affect the cognitive determinants, which indicate the behavioral intention to use security measures. From these findings, practical and theoretical implications for companies, organizations, and researchers are derived and discussed.

Data evaluation strategies for the novel coupled MCC-IMs sensory system are developed. Mayor attention to the plausibility of applied procedures and the feasibility of automation was paid. Three stages of extraction levels with increasing data reduction are presented for several fields of application. According to suitable extraction levels, real data were tested on various structures of artificial neural networks (ANN) with the result, that the computational levels must still be chosen by expertise, but subsequent processing and training can be fully automated. For the training of larger net- works a method of automated generation of secondary training data is presented which exceeds the quality of previous noise models by far. It is concluded that the combination of MCC-IMs as measuring instrument and ANNs as evalua- tion technique have high potential for industrial use in process monitoring.

Background Healthcare workers are considered a particularly high-risk group during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** workers in paediatries are a unique subgroup:they come into frequent contact with children,who often experience few or no symptoms when infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(sARs CoV-2)and,therefore,may transmit the disease to unprotected *** Germany,no studies exist evaluating the risk of COVID-19 to healthcare workers in paediatric *** We tested the staff at a large children's hospital in Germany for immunoglobulin(Ig)G antibodies against the nucle-ocapsid protein of sARs CoV-2 in a period between the first and second epidemic wave in *** used a questionnaire to assess each individual's exposure risk and his/her own perception of having already been infected with *** We recruited 619 participants from all sectors,clinical and non-clinical,constituting 70%of the entire *** seroprevalence of sARs CoV-2 antibodies was 0.325%(95%confidence interval 0.039-I.168).self-perceived risk of a previ-ous sARs-CoV-2 infection decreased with age(odds ratio,0.81;95%confidence interval,0.70-0.93).Having experienced symptoms more than doubled the odds of a high self-perceived risk(odds ratio,2.18;95%confidence interval,1.59--3.00).There was no significant difference in self perceived risk between men and *** seroprevalence was low among healtheare workers at a large children's hospital in Germany before the second epidemic wave,and it was far from a level that confers herd ***-perceived risk of infection is often overestimated.

significant advances have been made recently in the area of organic electronics and optoelectronics based on small molecules as a result of an improved chemistry and a better technology. Together with light emitting diodes and solar cells, transistors are among the most studied components. The development of new semiconductors induced a real improvement in organic thin film transistor’s performances. Additionally, the synthesis of new soluble and air-stable molecules with the ability to process the active materials at low temperatures over large areas on substrates such as plastic or paper provide unique technologies and generate new applications. However the control of the solid state structure has emerged as essential to realize the full intrinsic potential that organic semiconductors possess. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was likely to contribute to a further advancement of knowledge. The ability of the AFM to produce three dimensional maps at the micro- and nanometer scale has greatly increased its popularity as an imaging tool. Recently, distyryl-oligothiophenes and their derivatives appear as a new class of molecular semiconductors. Detailed morphological studies of organic active layers based on such new semiconductors involved in organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) have brought a large knowledge about the impact of chemical and physico-chemical aspects on charge transport efficiency.

Organellar biogenesis is mainly regulated by nucleus-encoded factors, which act on various steps of gene expression including RNA editing, processing, splicing, stabilization, and translation initiation. Among these regulatory factors, pentatricopeptide repeat （PPR） proteins form the largest family of RNA binding proteins, with hundreds of members in flowering plants. In striking contrast, the genome of the unicellular green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii encodes only 14 such proteins. In this study, we analyzed PPR7, the smallest and most highly expressed PPR protein in C. reinhardtii. Green fluorescent protein-based localization and gel-filtration analysis revealed that PPR7 forms a part of a high-molecular-weight ribonu- cleoprotein complex in the chloroplast stroma. RIP-chip analysis of PPRT-bound RNAs demonstrated that the protein associates with a diverse set of chloroplast transcripts in vivo, i.e. rrns, psbH, rpoC2, rbcL, atpA, cemA-atpH, tscA, and atpl-psaJ. Furthermore, the investigation of PPR7 RNAi strains revealed that deple- tion of PPR7 results in a light-sensitive phenotype, accompanied by altered levels of its target RNAs that are compatible with the defects in their maturation or stabilization. PPR7 is thus an unusual type of small multi- functional PPR protein, which interacts, probably in conjunction with other RNA binding proteins, with numerous target RNAs to promote a variety of post-transcriptional events.

Microwave Induced Plasma source for Analytical Applications： Experimental and simulation study

In this work, experiment investigations and simulation studies of a waveguide-based microwave plasma source operated at 2.45 GHz in atmospheric pressure helium gas are presented. The plasma source has been designed in conjunction with a gas spectrograph as a speciation analysis tool. Emitted He spectra are observed for gas flow rates between （0.2-1） L/min and microwave power in the range （15-150） W. The results obtained demonstrate maximum excitation temperature of about 3800 K and gas temperature of about 2000 K. Mixtures containing small amounts of mercury atoms are considered and the resonant emission of Hg atoms at 253.56 nm is detected. The spectroscopic measurements are completed with a collisional radiative model delivering the electron density and temperature, the amplitude of the electric microwave field, and the population of the excited atomic states for a given absorbed power and gas temperature, The electromagnetic field distribution in the plasma source is obtained by solving Maxwell＇s equations. Electric field strength of several 10^5 V/m is obtained that agrees well with the results of the collisional radiative model. The calculated and measured line intensity ratios of He spectral lines agree within 300/0-40%.
