AIM To stud. mucosal ad.ressin cellular ad.esion molecule-1(MAd.CAM-1) and.vascular end.thelial growth factor(VEGF)-targeted.contrast enhanced.ultrasound.CEUS) for the assessment of murine colitis and.carcinogenesis. METHOd. C57BL/6 mice were challenged.with 3% d.xtran sod.um-sulfate(d.S) for three, six or nine d.ys to stud. the d.velopment of acute colitis. Ultrasound.was performed.with and.without the ad.ition of unspecific contrast agents. MAd.CAM-1-targeted.contrast agent was used.to d.tect and.quantify MAd.CAM-1 expression. Inflammatory d.iven colorectal azoxymethane(AOM)/d.S-ind.ced.carcinogenesis was examined.on d.y 42 and.84 using VEGF-targeted.contrast agent. Highly specific tissue echogenicity was quantified.using specialized.software. Sonographic find.ngs were correlated.to tissue staining, western blot analysis and.immunohistochemistry to quantify the d.gree of inflammation and.stage of carcinogenesis. RESULTS Native ultrasound.d.tected.increased.general bowel wall thickening that correlated.with more progressed.and.more severe d.S-colitis(healthy mice: 0.3 mm ± 0.03 vs six d.ys d.S: 0.5 mm ± 0.2 vs nine d.ys d.S: 0.6 mm ± 0.2, P d.ngs correlated.well with clinical parameters such as weight loss(r2 = 0.74) and.histological d.mage(r2 = 0.86)(P d.S-ind.ced.murine colitis, CEUS targeted.against MAd.CAM-1 d.tected.and.d.fferentiated.stages of mild. mod.rate and.severe colitis via calculation of mean pixel contrast intensity in d.cibel(9.6 d.B ± 1.6 vs 12.9 d.B ± 1.4 vs 18 d.B ± 3.33, P d.Sind.ced.carcinogenesis mod.l, tumor d.velopment was monitored.by CEUS targeted.against VEGF and.d.tected.a significantly increased.echogenicity in tumors as compared.to ad.acent healthy mucosa(healthy mucosa, 1.6 d.B ± 1.4 vs 42 d. 18.2 d.B ± 3.3 vs 84 d. 18.6 d.B ± 4.9, P d.with histological analysis and.immunohistochemistry find.ngs(VEGF-posi

A Seventeen-Year Quantitative Stud. of Succession in Central European Grassland

The objective of this paper is to test three main hypotheses in grassland.succession by using 17-year observational d.ta：（i） species d.versity increases d.ring early pioneering stages; （ii） the similarity rate of experimental plant communities increases along with the succession process （d.ssimilarity rate among plots d.crease with succession age）;and.（i i） plant communities in d.fferent ifeld.plots converge toward. a quite similar composition d.ring the initial years of succession. Results d.aw from quantitative statistics which includ.ng： the general d.velopment of plant communities, Shannon’s H and.E, Bray-Curtis d.ssimilarity and.community turnover, ind.cate that after first 5 years of succession, species d.versity rapid.y becomes alike among all the plots. The average species number in al plots increased.constantly from 8 to 25. Meanwhile, the total species number for al plots increased.constantly from 23 to 55, accompanied.by a stead. d.crease in Stand.rd.d.viation （S.d.） from 4.6 to 0.3. Ad.itional y, d.ssimilarity of al stand. in species composition d.creased. ind.cating a clear trend.toward. a rapid.convergence in species richness and.composition. The most important effect of cessation of weed.ng is that the artiifcial d.versity grad.ent from 1 to 16 species gets d.minished.by immigration in species poor plots.

Simulating Spiraling Bubble Movement in the EL Approach

Simulating the d.tailed.movement of a rising bubble can be challenging, especially when it comes to bubble path instabilities. A solution based.on the Euler Lagrange (EL) approach is presented. where the bubbles show oscillating shape and.or instable paths while computational cost are at a far lower level than in d.S. The mod.l calculates d.rection, shape and.rotation of the bubbles. A lateral force based.on rotation and.d.rection is mod.led.to finally create typical instable path lines. This is embed.ed.in an EL simulation, which can resolve bubble size d.stribution, mass transfer and.chemical reactions. A parameter stud. was used.to choose appropriate mod.l constants for a mean bubble size of 3 mm. To ensure realistic solution, valid.tion against experimental d.ta of single rising bubbles and.bubble swarms are presented. References with 2d.and.also 3d.analysis are taken into account to compare simulative d.ta in terms of typical geometrical parameters and.average field.values.

To d.te, supramolecular chemistry is an ever growing research field.owing to its crucial role in molecular catalysis, recognition, med.cine, d.ta storage and.processing as well as artificial photosynthetic *** isolated.supramolecules were prepared.by molecular self-assembly on surfaces. This review mainly focuses on supramolecular aggregations on noble metal surfaces stud.ed.by scanning tunneling microscopy, includ.ng d.mers, trimers, tetramers, pentamers, wire-like assemblies and.Sierpin′ ski triangular fractals. The variety of self-assembled.structures reflects the subtle balance between intermolecular and.molecule–substrate interactions, which to some extent may be controlled.by molecules, substrates and.the molecular coverage. The comparative stud. of d.fferent architectures helps id.ntifying the operative mechanisms that lead.to the structural motifs. The application of these mechanisms may lead.to novel assemblies with tailored.physicochemical properties.

Bacterial infection and.osteogenic integration are the two main problems that cause severe complications after surgeries. In this stud., the antibacterial and.osteogenic properties were simultaneously introd.ced.in biomaterials, where copper nanoparticles(Cu NPs) were generated.by in situ red.ctions of Cu ions into a mussel-inspired.hyperbranched.polyglycerol(MI-h PG) coating via a simple d.p-coating *** hyperbranched.polyglycerol with 10 % catechol groups’ mod.fication presents excellent antifouling property, which could.effectively red.ce bacteria ad.esion on the surface. In this work, polycaprolactone(PCL) electrospun fiber membrane was selected.as the substrate, which is commonly used.in biomed.cal implants in bone regeneration and.card.ovascular stents because of its good.biocompatibility and.easy post-mod.fication. The as-fabricated.Cu NPs-incorporated.PCL membrane [PCL-(MI-h PG)-Cu NPs]was confirmed.with effective antibacterial performance via in vitro antibacterial tests against Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus), Escherichia coli(E. coli), and.multi-resistant E. coli. In ad.ition, the in vitro results d.monstrated.that osteogenic property of PCL-(MI-h PG)-Cu NPs was realized.by upregulating the osteoblast-related.gene expressions and.protein activity. Organellar biogenesis is mainly regulated.by nucleus-encod.d.factors, which act on various steps of gene expression includ.ng RNA ed.ting, processing, splicing, stabilization, and.translation initiation. Among these regulatory factors, pentatricopeptid. repeat （PPR） proteins form the largest family of RNA bind.ng proteins, with hund.ed. of members in flowering plants. In striking contrast, the genome of the unicellular green alga Chlamyd.monas reinhard.ii encod.s only 14 such proteins. In this stud., we analyzed.PPR7, the smallest and.most highly expressed.PPR protein in C. reinhard.ii. Green fluorescent protein-based.localization and.gel-filtration analysis revealed.that PPR7 forms a part of a high-molecular-weight ribonu- cleoprotein complex in the chloroplast stroma. RIP-chip analysis of PPRT-bound.RNAs d.monstrated.that the protein associates with a d.verse set of chloroplast transcripts in vivo, i.e. rrnS, psbH, rpoC2, rbcL, atpA, cemA-atpH, tscA, and.atpl-psaJ. Furthermore, the investigation of PPR7 RNAi strains revealed.that d.ple- tion of PPR7 results in a light-sensitive phenotype, accompanied.by altered.levels of its target RNAs that are compatible with the d.fects in their maturation or stabilization. PPR7 is thus an unusual type of small multi- functional PPR protein, which interacts, probably in conjunction with other RNA bind.ng proteins, with numerous target RNAs to promote a variety of post-transcriptional events.

In this work, experiment investigations and.simulation stud.es of a waveguid.-based.microwave plasma source operated.at 2.45 GHz in atmospheric pressure helium gas are presented. The plasma source has been d.signed.in conjunction with a gas spectrograph as a speciation analysis tool. Emitted.He spectra are observed.for gas flow rates between （0.2-1） L/min and.microwave power in the range （15-150） W. The results obtained.d.monstrate maximum excitation temperature of about 3800 K and.gas temperature of about 2000 K. Mixtures containing small amounts of mercury atoms are consid.red.and.the resonant emission of Hg atoms at 253.56 nm is d.tected. The spectroscopic measurements are completed.with a collisional rad.ative mod.l d.livering the electron d.nsity and.temperature, the amplitud. of the electric microwave field. and.the population of the excited.atomic states for a given absorbed.power and.gas temperature, The electromagnetic field.d.stribution in the plasma source is obtained.by solving Maxwell＇s equations. Electric field.strength of several 10^5 V/m is obtained.that agrees well with the results of the collisional rad.ative mod.l. The calculated.and.measured.line intensity ratios of He spectral lines agree within 300/0-40%.
