The wear profile analysis,obtained by different tribometers,is essential to characterise the wear ***,most of the available methods did not take the stress distribution over the wear profile in consideration,which causes inaccurate *** this study,the wear profile of polymer–metal contact,obtained by block-on-ring configuration under dry sliding conditions,was analysed using finite element modelling(FEM)and experimental ***’s wear equation was integrated into a developed FORTRAN-UMESHMOTION code linked with Abaqus software.A varying wear coefficient(k)values covering both running-in and steady state regions,and a range of applied loads involving both mild and severe wear regions were measured and implemented in the *** FEM was in good agreement with the *** model reproduced the stress distribution profiles under variable testing conditions,while their values were affected by the sliding direction and maximum wear depth(hmax).The largest area of the wear profile,exposed to the average contact stresses,is defined as the normal *** the critical zones were characterized by high stress concentrations reaching up to 10 times of that at the normal *** wear profile was mapped to identify the critical zone where the stress concentration is the key point in this *** surface features were examined in different regions using scanning electron microscope(SEM).Ultimately,SEM analysis showed severer damage features in the critical zone than that in the normal zone as proven by ***,the literature data presented and considered the wear features the same at any point of the wear *** this study,the normal zone was determined at a stress value of about 0.5 MPa,whereas the critical zone was at about 5.5 *** wear behaviour of these two zones showed totally different features from one another.

Despite all efforts,long-term changes in the adult sex ratios of breeding duck populations are still unclear;this uncertainty is especially true for male-bias populations,which are often under the scrutiny of researchers lacking convenient results for the active protection of endangered *** with male-bias populations are usually strongly affected by a decline in population size that leads to a higher extinction *** this study,we examined our long-term data of the abundance of breeding populations in six duck species(Mallard Anas platyrhynchos,Gadwall Mareca strepera,Red-crested Pochard Netta rufina,Common Pochard Aythya ferina,Tufted Duck Aythya fuligula,and Common Goldeneye bucephala clangula)from fishponds in South bohemia,Czechia,between 2004 and *** evidence was used to assess long-term changes in the adult sex ratio in these breeding populations and investigate the possible effects of the NAO index(North Atlantic Oscillation index)on them,indicating climate conditions in *** determined a long-term decrease of the proportion of females in the breeding season in two of the six examined species:Common Pochard and Red-crested Pochard,which is driven by the long-term increase in the number of males in contrast to the decreasing or stable number of females likely caused by different migration behaviours between females and *** the case of Common Pochard,in breeding populations,we estimated 60-65%of males in the early 2000s rising to 75-80%in the early ***,we establish no significant effects linked to climate conditions of the previous winter in these species as a crucial cause of the changes of the proportion of females in the breeding population.

We studied the effect of titanium dioxide(TiO_(2))nanoparticles(NPs)on dielectric behavior of Naþion-conducting salt-complexed polymer nanocomposite system formed from a binary polymer blend of poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)and polyvinyl pyrrolidone(PVP),with the addition of both sodium metaperiodate(NaIO_(4))at concentration 10 wt.%and TiO_(2) NPs of size10 nm,at concentrations 1,2,3,4 and 5 wt.%.Free standing nanocomposite PEO/PVP/NaIO_(4)/TiO_(2) films(150m)were characterized at room-temperature by analyzing their complex electrical impedance and dielectric spectra in the range 1 Hz–1 *** the concentration of 3 wt.%of TiO_(2) NPs,both ion conductivity and dielectric permittivity of the PEO/PVP/NaIO_(4)/TiO_(2) ion-conducting dielectrics reach an enhancement by more than one order of magnitude as compared to nanoadditive-free case.

Glaucoma,an irreversible optic neuropathy,primarily affects retinal ganglion cells(RGC)and causes vision loss and *** damage to RGCs in glaucoma occurs by various mechanisms,including elevated intraocular pressure,oxidative stress,inflammation,and other neurodegenerative *** the disease progresses,the loss of RGCs leads to vision ***,protecting RGCs from damage and promoting their survival are important goals in managing *** this regard,resveratrol(RES),a polyphenolic phytoalexin,exerts antioxidant effects and slows down the evolution and progression of *** present review shows that RES plays a protective role in RGCs in cases of ischemic injury and hypoxia as well as in Erbb2 protein expression in the ***,RES plays protective roles in RGCs by promoting cell growth,reducing apoptosis,and decreasing oxidative stress in H_(2)O_(2)-exposed *** was also found to inhibit oxidative stress damage in RGCs and suppress the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling *** could alleviate retinal function impairment by suppressing the hypoxia-i nducible factor-1 alpha/vascular endothelial growth factor and p38/p53 axes while stimulating the PI3K/Akt ***,RES might exert potential therapeutic effects for managing glaucoma by protecting RGCs from damage and promoting their survival.

This work explores the potential of a triple combination of meropenem(MEM),a novel metallo-blactamase(MbL)inhibitor(indole-2-carboxylate 58(InC58)),and a serine-b-lactamase(SbL)inhibitor(avibactam(AVI))for broad-spectrum activity against carbapenemase-producing bacteria.A diverse panel comprising MbL-and SbL-producing strains was used for susceptibility testing of the triple combination using the agar dilution *** frequency of resistance(FoR)to MEM combined with InC58 was *** were sequenced and tested for cross resistance,fitness,and the stability of the resistance *** with the double combinations of MEM plus an SbL or MbL inhibitor,the triple combination extended the spectrum of activity to most of the isolates bearing SbLs(oxacillinase-48(OXA-48)and Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-2(KPC-2))and MbLs(New Delhi metallo-blactamases(NDMs)),although it was not effective against Verona integron-encoded metallo-blactamase(VIM)-carrying Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***)and OXA-23-carrying Acinetobacter baumannii(***).The FoR to MEM plus InC58 ranged from 2.22×10^(-7)to 1.13×10^(-6).The resistance correlated with mutations to ompC and comR,affecting porin C and copper permeability,*** mutants manifested a fitness cost,a decreased level of resistance during passage without antibiotic pressure,and cross resistance to another carbapenem(imipenem)and a b-lactamase inhibitor(taniborbactam).In conclusion,compared with the dual combinations,the triple combination of MEM with InC58 and AVI showed a much wider spectrum of activity against different carbapenemaseproducing bacteria,revealing a new strategy to combat b-lactamase-mediated antimicrobial resistance.

High harmonic generation in gas jets was investigated in different gases up to more than 14 bar backing pressure. The observation of increase of harmonic intensity with increasing pressure and laser intensity shows evidence of the presence of clusters in Xe with an increased efficiency compared with He, whereas Ar is an intermediate case for which clusters will start to dominate above a certain backing pressure. Spectral investigations give evidence for tunable harmonic generation in a broad spectral range. A spectral shift of opposite signature caused by the free electrons in the focal volume and the nanoplasmas inside the cluster was observed.

Antibodies(Abs)are glycoprotein molecules that represent an essential component of the adaptative immune *** are secreted in body fluids and act as a critical part of immune *** recognition of self-antigens by Abs is normally selected against during b-cell development,autoreactive Abs can be generated as a result of pathological immune responses,as observed in autoimmune *** can also be produced in cancer patients,where they may have beneficial roles[1].Indeed,the presence of intratumoral antibody-secreting cells(ASCs)and b-cell-rich tertiary lymphoid structures(TLSs)has been observed in many cancer types and generally correlates with a favorable clinical prognosis[2,3,4,5,6].The existence of specific antitumor antibody responses suggests that tumor cells express molecules that are recognized as nonself antigens by the immune system or that tolerance of self-antigens expressed on cancer cells is lost[1,4].The study of the origin of tumor-reactive Abs and their specificity and functions is of paramount importance for understanding the development of adaptive antitumor immune responses and for revealing novel therapeutic avenues.A recent publication in Cell by Mazor et al.[7]has provided an important advance in our understanding of antibody responses in *** particular,this work paves the way for the distinction between antibody-reactive tumors and antibody-nonreactive tumors,which is reminiscent of the dichotomy of the noninfiltrated“cold”tumor microenvironment(TME)in contrast with the highly infiltrated with immune cells“hot”TME[8].Moreover,an important finding of the study was the demonstration that tumor-directed autoreactivity may be either preexisting or induced by somatic hypermutations,a mechanism related to the chronicity of cancer.
