Over 2 billion people worldwide are estimated to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD),defined by excess hepatic ***,progression into nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)is characterized by the onset of liver inflammation following exacerbated steatosis.1 This suggests that reducing liver inflammation(*** lifestyle interventions involving exercise training)may come secondary to a reduction of ***,both the metabolic and inflammatory processes involved in NAFLD are under circadian control and could respond differently to exercise at different times of day.2 To investigate the time-of-day–dependent effect of exercise training on NAFLD amelioration in the early disease stages we trained high-fat high-cholesterol(HFHC)-fed APOE*3-Leiden cholesteryl ester transfer protein(CETP)mice during their early or late active *** mouse model was chosen because of its humanized lipid metabolism and its ability to develop all hallmarks of human NAFLD upon HFHC feeding.

As a member of the 2 D family of materials, h-BN is an intrinsic insulator and could be employed as a dielectric or insulating inter-layer in ultra-thin devices. monolayer h-BN can be synthesized on Rh(111) surfaces using borazine as a precursor. Using in-situ variable-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy(STm), we directly observed the formation of h-BN in real-time. By analyzing the deposition under variable substrate temperatures and the filling rate of the h-BN overlayer vacant hollows during growth, we studied the growth kinetics of how the borazine molecules construct the h-BN overlayer grown on the Rh surface.

Thin-film devices made of room-temperature liquid metals(Lms)have contributed to the development of electronic skin for human-robot/machine interfaces but still have limitations,including degradations of performance and robustness under repeated *** this paper,we describe an interesting phenomenon of the formation of Lm microscale networks(LmmNs)and propose to use the LmmNs for fabricating thin-film conductors.A simple layer-by-layer(LBL)deposition process enables the growth of a hierarchical structure of Lm microdroplets that forms a conductive network(i.e.,LmmN)when *** strain-history behavior of LmmNs allows conductivity enhancement up to 2.37×10^(6) S m^(-1) in response to increased tensile *** adjusting the number of Lm layers in LBL deposition,the gauge factor(0.2≤GF≤1),the linearity,and the sheet resistance of LmmN films can be easily controlled,providing high potentials in various applications,including skin-mountable circuits,energy harvesters,and soft artificial skin.

Immunosuppressive regulatory T lymphocytes （Treg） expressing the transcription factor Foxp3 play a vital role in the maintenance of tolerance of the immune-system to self and innocuous non-self. most Treg that are critical for the maintenance of tolerance to self, develop as an independent T-cell lineage from common T cell precursors in the thymus. In this organ, their differentiation requires signals from the T cell receptor for antigen, from co-stimulatory molecules, as well as from cytokine-receptors. Here we focus on the cytokines implicated in thymic development of Treg, with a particular emphasis on the roles of interleukin-2 （IL-2） and IL-15. The more recently appreciated involvement of TGF-β in thymic Treg development is also briefly discussed. Finally, we discuss how cytokine-dependence of Treg development allows for temporal, quantitative, and potentially qualitative modulation of this process.

Dendritic cells （DCs） represent a heterogeneous population of professional antigen-presenting cells （APCs） that play a central role in the initiation and regulation of immune responses. There is considerable evidence that DCs can be used as therapeutic targets for pharmacological modulation of immune responses. Traditional Chinese medicine （TCm） has a long-standing history of using herbal medicine in the treatment of variety of human diseases. many of the clinical effects of TCm have reportedly been attributed to the up- or down-regulation of immune responses. Accumulating evidence indicates that TCm and its components can interfere with immune responses at the earliest stage by targeting key functions of DCs. Here, we review those published studies of TCm with respect to their effects on immunobiological functions of DCs. Investigations based on both chemical entities derived from TCm as well as TCm herbal mixtures are presented. These studies suggest that various TCm herbal medicines have the capacity to inhibit or promote major functions of DCs, such as differentiation, maturation, cytokine production, survival, antigen uptake and presentation as well as trafficking. These studies have revealed novel biological effects of TCm and documented the utility of this approach to discover novel biological modifier of DC functions derived from natural sources.

This work demonstrates the first on-chip UV optoelectronic integration in 4H-SiC CmOS,which includes an image sensor with 64 active pixels and a total of 1263 transistors on a 100mm^(2) *** reported image sensor offers serial digital,analog,and 2-bit ADC outputs and operates at 0.39 Hz with a maximum power consumption of 60μW,which are significant improvements over previous *** optoelectronics have applications in flame detection,satellites,astronomy,UV photography,and *** complexity of this optoelectronic system paves the way for new applications such harsh environment microcontrollers.

Tumor-stroma ratio as prognostic factor for survival in rectal adenocarcinoma: A retrospective cohort study

AIm To evaluate the prognostic value of the tumor-stroma ratio(TSR) in rectal *** TSR was determined on hematoxylin and eosin stained histological sections of 154 patients treated for rectal adenocarcinoma without prior neoadjuvant treatment in the period 1996-2006 by two observers to assessreproducibility. Patients were categorized into three categories: TSR-high [carcinoma percentage(CP) ≥ 70%], TSR-intermediate(CP 40%, 50% and 60%) and TSR-low(CP ≤ 30%). The relation between categorized TSR and survival was analyzed using Cox proportional hazards *** Thirty-six(23.4%) patients were scored as TSR-low, 70(45.4%) as TSR-intermediate and 48(31.2%) as TSRhigh. TSR had a good interobserver agreement(κ = 0.724, concordance 82.5%). Overall survival(OS) and disease free survival(DFS) were significantly better for patients with a high TSR(P = 0.01 and P = 0.02, respectively). A similar association existed for disease specific survival(P = 0.06). In multivariate analysis, patients without lymph node metastasis and an intermediate TSR had a higher risk of dying from rectal cancer(HR = 5.27, 95%CI: 1.54-18.10), compared to lymph node metastasis negative patients with a high TSR. This group also had a worse DFS(HR = 6.41, 95%CI: 1.84-22.28). An identical association was seen for OS. These relations were not seen in lymph node metastasis positive patients. CONCLUSION The TSR has potential as a prognostic factor for survival in surgically treated rectal cancer patients, especially in lymph node negative cases.

Species of the genus myceliophthora and its teleomorph Corynascus have attracted increasing interest due to their potential to produce thermostable *** study re-assessed the phylogenetic relationship of 49 isolates of nine species belonging to myceliophthora and *** species,***,was shown not to belong to the genus myceliophthora and should be placed in the genus *** other species belonged to two phylogenetic clusters:mesophilic fungi with the type species *** and ***,and thermophilic fungi with ***,*** and *** phylogenetic data provides no clear separation of the two genera Corynascus and *** avoid confusion in future taxonomic studies,it is proposed that all existing Corynascus species be renamed to myceliophthora,which is the old name and the one more frequently ***,this study identified two groups within the isolates listed as *** and assigned one group(five isolates)to *** based on AFLP analysis and mating *** study provides new insights into the genetic differences within the genus myceliophthora and will therefore be essential for the interpretation of future genomic and physiological studies of these species.

The traditional description of atomic-scale friction, as investigated in Friction force microscopy, in terms of mechanical stick-slip instabilities appears so successful that it obscures the actual mechanisms of frictional energy dissipation. more sophisticated theoretical approach, which takes into account damping explicitly, reveals the existence of some hidden, unexplained problems, like the universal nearly-critical damping and unexpectedly high value of the dissipation rate. In this paper, we combine analysis in the framework of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics with simple atomistic modeling to show that the hidden problems of atomic scale friction find their origin in the nontrivial character of energy dissipation that is non-local and dominated by memory effects, which have not been addressed before in the context of dry, atomic-scale friction.
