Flame-retardant ammonium polyphosphate/MXene decorated carbon foam materials as polysulfide traps for fire-safe and stable lithium-sulfur batteries

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries are one of the most promising modern-day energy supply systems because of their high theoretical energy density and low cost.However,the development of high-energy density Li-S batteries with high loading of flammable sulfur faces the challenges of electrochemical performance degradation owing to the shuttle effect and safety issues related to fire or explosion accidents.In this work,we report a three-dimensional(3D)conductive nitrogen-doped carbon foam supported electrostatic self-assembled MXene-ammonium polyphosphate(NCF-MXene-APP)layer as a heat-resistant,thermally-insulated,flame-retardant,and freestanding host for Li-S batteries with a facile and costeffective synthesis method.Consequently,through the use of NCF-MXene-APP hosts that strongly anchor polysulfides,the Li-S batteries demonstrate outstanding electrochemical properties,including a high initial discharge capacity of 1191.6 mA h g^(-1),excellent rate capacity of 755.0 mA h g^(-1)at 1 C,and long-term cycling stability with an extremely low-capacity decay rate of 0.12%per cycle at 2 C.More importantly,these batteries can continue to operate reliably under high temperature or flame attack conditions.Thus,this study provides valuable insights into the design of safe high-performance Li-S batteries.

Homogenous charge distribution by free-standing porous structure for dendrite-free Li metal anode

Lithium metal has a high theoretical capacity of 3860 mAh g^-1 and a low electrochemical potential(-3.04 V vs.H2/H^+).Hence,using a lithium anode significantly improves the energy density of a secondary battery.However,the lithium dendrites generated on the lithium anode during the platingdissolution process significantly reduce its cycling life and safety.Here,we provide a simple method for lithium anode protection,by applying a free-standing porous carbon film with a high specific surface area to reduce the local current density and obtain a homogenous ion distribution.The protected lithium anode has a long cycle life over 1000 h when cycled at 3 mA cm^-2 with a lithium capacity of 2.5 mAh cm^-2.Moreover,the deposited lithium has a smoother surface than Li anode without carbon protection.This study will promote the wide application of Li-metal-based batteries with high safety levels.

Understanding the mechanical properties of bionanofilms is important in terms of identifying their durability.The primary focus of this study is to examine the effect of water vapor annealed silk fibroin on the indentation modulus and hardness of graphene oxide-silk fibroin(GO-SF)bionanofilms through nanoindentation experiments and finite element analysis(FEA).The GO-SF bionanofilms were fabricated using the layer-by-layer technique.The water vapor annealing process was employed to enhance the interfacial properties between the GO and SF layers,and the mechanical properties of the GO-SF bionanofilms were found to be affected by this process.By employing water vapor annealing,the indentation modulus and hardness of the GO-SF bionanofilms can be improved.Furthermore,the FEA models of the GO-SF bionanofilms were developed to simulate the details of the mechanical behaviors of the GO-SF bionanofilms.The difference in the stress and strain distribution inside the GO-SF bionanofilms before and after annealing was analyzed.In addition,the load-displacement curves that were obtained by the developed FEA model conformed well with the results from the nanoindentation tests.In summary,this study presents the mechanism of improving the indentation modulus and hardness of the GO-SF bionanofilms through the water vapor annealing process,which is established with the FEA simulation models.

A Reprocessing Model for Complete Execution of RFID Access Operations on Tag Memory

This paper investigates the problem of inconsistent states of radio frequency identification （RFID） tag data caused by incomplete execution of read/write operations during access to RFID tag memory. Passive RFID tags require RF communication to access memory data. This study is motivated by the volatility of RF communication, where instability is caused by intermittent connections and uncertain communication. If a given tag disappears from the communication area of the reader during the reading or writing of tag data, the operation is incomplete, resulting in an inconsistent state of tag data. To avoid this inconsistency, it is necessary to ensure that any operations on tag memory are completed. In this paper, we propose an asynchronous reprocessing model for finalizing any incomplete execution of read/write operations to remove inconsistent states. The basic idea is to resume incomplete operations autonomously by detecting a tag＇s re-observation from any reader. To achieve this, we present a concurrency control mechanism based on continuous query processing that enables the suspended tag operations to be re-executed. The performance study shows that our model improves the number of successful operations considerably in addition to suppressing inconsistent data access completely.

Clinical application of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in stroke rehabilitation

Proper stimulation to affected cerebral hemisphere would promote the functional recovery of patients with stroke. Effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on cortical excitability can be can be altered by the stimulation frequency, intensity and duration. There has been no consistent recognition regarding the best stimulation frequency and intensity. This study reviews the intervention effects of repetitive transcranial stimulation on motor impairment, dysphagia, visuospatial neglect and aphasia, and summarizes the stimulation frequency, intensity and area for repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation to yield the best therapeutic effects.

Neuromodulation represents a cutting edge class of both invasive and non-invasive therapeutic methods which alter the activity of neurons.Currently,several different techniques have been developed-or are currently being investigated–to treat a wide variety of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders.Recently,in vivo and in vitro studies have revealed that neuromodulation can also induce myelination,meaning that it could hold potential as a therapy for various demyelinating diseases including multiple sclerosis and progressive multifocal leukencepalopathy.These findings come on the heels of a paradigm shift in the view of myelin's role within the nervous system from a static structure to an active co-regulator of central nervous system plasticity and participant in neuron-mediated modulation.In the present review,we highlight several of the recent findings regarding the role of neural activity in altering myelination including several soluble and contact-dependent factors that seem to mediate neural activitydependent myelination.We also highlight several considerations for neuromodulatory techniques,including the need for further research into spatiotemporal precision,dosage,and the safety and efficacy of transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation,an emerging neuromodulation technology.As the field of neuromodulation continues to evolve,it could potentially bring forth methods for the treatment of demyelinating diseases,and as such,further investigation into the mechanisms of neuron-dependent myelination as well as neuro-imaging modalities that can monitor myelination activity is warranted.

Flexible Pavement Analysis Considering Temperature Profile and Anisotropy Behavior in Hot Mix Ashalt Layer

A three Dimensional finite element model (FEM) incorporating the anisotropic properties and temperature profile of hot mix asphalt (HMA) pavement was developed to predict the structural responses of HMA pavement subject to heavy loads typically encountered in the field. In this study, ABAQUS was adopted to model the stress and strain relationships within the pavement structure. The results of the model were verified using data collected from the Korean Highway Corporation Test Road (KHCTR). The results demonstrated that both the base course and surface course layers follow the anisotropic behavior and the incorporation of the temperature profile throughout the pavement has a substantial effect on the pavement response predictions that impact pavement design. The results also showed that the anisotropy level of HMA and base material can be reduced to as low as 80% and 15% as a result of repeated loading, respectively.

The wetting behavior of Au and Ag particles on a monocrystalline graphite substrate was investigated using the microscopic sessile drop method under a purified Ar atmosphere at 1300 K. The measured contact angles of the liquid Au and Ag on monocrystalline graphite substrates of （0001） face were 129° and 124°, respectively. It is believed that the interaction at the interface is dominated by the physical bonding （van der Waal＇s interaction）.
