AIM:To assess the significance of interleukin(IL)-24 and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)expression in lymph-node-positive rectal cancer. METHODS:Between 1998 and 2005,90 rectal adenocarcinoma patients with lymph node involvement were *** patients received radical surgery and postoperative pelvic chemoradiotherapy of 50.4-54.0 *** of 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin or levamisole was given intravenously during the first and last week of radiotherapy,and then monthly for about 6 *** of IL-24 and VEGF was evaluated by immunohistochemical staining of surgical specimens, and their relations with patient characteristics and survival were *** median follow-up of surviving patients was 73 mo(range:52-122 mo). CONCLUSION:IL-24 expression was significantly correlated with histological differentiation,and inversely correlated with the degree of lymph node involvement in stageⅢrectal cancer.

AIM To evaluate the correlation between intravoxel incoherent motion(IVIM) diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI) parameters and the degree of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in *** This retrospective study was approved by the institutional review board. The children(≤ 18 years) who underwent liver IVIM DWI with 8 b-values under the suspicion of hepatic steatosis or fibrosis from February 2013 to November 2016 were included. Subjects were divided into normal, fatty liver(FAT), and fibrotic liver(FIB) groups. The slow diffusion coefficient(D), fast diffusion coefficient(D*), perfusion fraction(f), and apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) were measured. MR proton density fat fraction(PDFF), MR elastography(MRE), and IVIM values were *** A total of 123 children(median age of 12 years old, range: 6-18 years) were included, with 8 in the normal group, 93 in the FAT group, and 22 in the FIB group. The D* values were lower in the FIB group compared with those of the normal(P = 0.015) and FAT(P = 0.003) groups. The f values were lower in the FIB group compared with the FAT group(P = 0.001). In multivariate analyses, PDFF value was positively correlated with f value(β = 3.194, P < 0.001), and MRE value was negatively correlated with D* value(β =-7.031, P = 0.032). The D and ADC values were not influenced by PDFF or MRE *** In liver IVIM DWI with multiple b-values in children, there was a positive correlation between hepatic fat and blood volume, and a negative correlation between hepatic stiffness and endovascular blood flow velocity, while diffusion-related parameters were not affected.

Fas-associated factor 1 (FAF1) is a scaffolding protein that plays multiple functions, and dysregulation of FAF1 is associated withmany types of diseases such as cancers. FAF1 contains multiple ubiquitin-related domains (UBA, UBL1, UBL2, UAS, and UBX), eachdomain interacting with a specific partner. In particular, the interaction of UBL1 with heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) is associatedwith tumor formation, although the molecular understanding remains unknown. In this study, the structural analysis revealed thatHis160 of FAF1 is important for its interaction with Hsp70. The association of Hsp70 with FAF1 is required for the interaction withIQGAP1. FAF1 negatively regulates RhoA activation by FAF1–Hsp70 complex formation, which then interacts with IQGAP1. Thesesteps play a key role in maintaining the stability of cell-to-cell junction. We conclude that FAF1 plays a critical role in the structureand function of adherens junction during tissue homeostasis and morphogenesis by suppressing RhoA activation, which induces theactivation of Rho-associated protein kinase, phosphorylation of myosin light chain, formation of actin stress fiber, and disruptionof adherens junction. In addition, depletion of FAF1 increased collective invasion in a 3D spheroid cell culture. These results provideinsightinto how the FAF1–Hsp70 complex acts as a novelregulator ofthe adherens junction integrity. The complex can be a potentialtherapeutic target to inhibit tumorigenesis and metastasis.

A critical challenge hindering the practical application of lithium–oxygen batteries(LOBs)is the inevitable problems associated with liquid electrolytes,such as evaporation and safety *** study addresses these problems by proposing a modified polyrotaxane(mPR)-based solid polymer electrolyte(SPE)design that simultaneously mitigates solvent-related problems and improves ***-SPE exhibits high ion conductivity(2.8×10^(−3)S cm^(−1)at 25℃)through aligned ion conduction pathways and provides electrode protection ability through hydrophobic chain *** this mPR-SPE into solid-state LOBs resulted in stable potentials over 300 *** situ Raman spectroscopy reveals the presence of an LiO_(2)intermediate alongside Li_(2)O_(2)during oxygen *** situ X-ray diffraction confirm the ability of the SPE to hinder the permeation of oxygen and moisture,as demonstrated by the air permeability *** present study suggests that maintaining a low residual solvent while achieving high ionic conductivity is crucial for restricting the sub-reactions of solid-state LOBs.

BACKGROUND A recent retrospective study confirmed that hepatic stiffness and splenic stiffness measured with magnetic resonance elastography(MRE) are strongly associated with the presence of esophageal varices. In addition, strong correlations have been reported between splenic stiffness values measured with MRE and hepatic venous pressure gradients in animal models. However, most studies have been conducted on adult populations, and previous pediatric MRE studies have only demonstrated the feasibility of MRE in pediatric populations, while the actual clinical application of spleen MRE has been *** To assess the utility of splenic stiffness measurements by MRE to predict gastroesophageal varices in *** We retrospectively reviewed abdominal MRE images taken on a 3 T system in pediatric patients. Patients who had undergone Kasai operations for biliary atresia were selected for the Kasai group, and patients with normal livers and spleens were selected for the control group. Two-dimensional spin-echo echoplanar MRE acquisition centered on the liver, with a pneumatic driver at 60 Hz and a low amplitude, was performed to obtain hepatic and splenic stiffness values. Laboratory results for aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index(APRI) were evaluated within six months of MRE, and the normalized spleen size ratio was determined with the upper normal size limit. OBJECTIVE: To quantitatively evaluate the therapeutic effects of Red Liriope platyphylla(RLP) on atopic dermatitis(AD), alterations in the luciferase(Luc) signal and general phenotype biomarkers were compared in phthalic anhydride(PA) treated Interleukin-4(IL-4)/Luc/Consensus non-coding sequence-1(CNS-1) transgenic(Tg) mice following treatment with aqueous extract of RLP(AEt RLP) for4 ***: Alterations in AD phenotypes were measured in IL-4/Luc/CNS-1 Tg mice following treatment with AEt RLP using inflammation parameter analysis, bioluminescence imaging analysis, histological analysis, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and Western blot ***: RLP contained high concentrations of total phenolic compounds, total flavonoid compounds and 5-HNE related to AD therapy. The Luc signal was only detected in the abdominal region and the submandibular lymph node(SL), mesenteric lymph node(ML), thymus and pancreas of the PA treated group. This signal was significantly decreased by 28%-73% throughout the body and in the four organs in PA + AEt RLP treated group. Furthermore, the lymph node weight, immunoglobulin E concentration and dermal thickness were decreased by 37%-67% in the PA + AEt RLP treated ***: Our findings suggest that the therapeutic effect of AEt RLP on PA induced AD could be successfully quantified by comparison of Luc signals and AD phenotype markers in IL-4/Luc/CNS-1Tg mice, and that the Luc signal was as sensitive as the general AD phenotypes, enabling detection of effects without euthanasia.
