Periportal thickening on magnetic resonance imaging for hepatic fibrosis in infantile cholestasis

BACKGROUND Untreated neonatal cholestasis can progress to liver cirrhosis and end stage liver disease in infancy due to prolonged hepatocyte and biliary tree injury and may require liver ***,non-invasive evaluation of hepatic fibrosis is important in infants with *** To investigate the usefulness of periportal thickening(PT)measured on liver magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)for the assessment of hepatic fibrosis in infants with cholestasis including biliary atresia(BA).METHODS This retrospective study included infants less than 6 mo who underwent liver MRI and biopsy for the evaluation of infantile *** and spleen size were measured on *** assessment was based on aspartate transaminase to platelet ratio index(APRI).The grade of histopathologic fibrosis was assessed by the METAVIR grading *** and diagnostic performance of PT,normalized spleen size ratio(SR,using the upper normal size limit),and APRI for diagnosing hepatic fibrosis were obtained by receiveroperating characteristic(ROC)curve *** A total of 155 patients were included,110 of which were diagnosed with *** age at the time of MRI was 57.6±34.4 *** were positive correlations between fibrosis grade and PT and SR,even after adjusting age(all,P<0.001).For the diagnosis of significant fibrosis(METAVIR grade F2-F4),the area under the ROC curve was 0.899(95%CI:0.840–0.941)for PT(cutoff,4.2 mm),which was higher than 0.741(95%CI:0.664–0.808)for SR and 0.712(95%CI:0.634–0.782)for APRI(both,P<0.001).For the diagnosis of cirrhosis(F4),the area under the ROC curve was the highest with SR as 0.790(95%CI:0.718–0.852).CONCLUSION Liver MRI findings of PT and SR are useful to assess clinically significant hepatic fibrosis(F2 and higher)in infants with cholestasis including BA.

Center, Limit Cycles and Isochronous Center of a Z_4-equivariant Quintic System

In this paper, we study the limit cycles bifurcations of four fine focuses in Z4-equivariant vector fields and the problems that its four singular points can be centers and isochronous centers at the same time. By computing the Liapunov constants and periodic constants carefully, we show that for a certain Z4-equivariant quintic systems, there are four fine focuses of five order and five limit cycles can bifurcate from each, we also find conditions of center and isochronous center for this system. The process of proof is algebraic and symbolic by using common computer algebra soft such as Mathematica, the expressions after being simplified in this paper are simple relatively. Moreover, what is worth mentioning is that the result of 20 small limit cycles bifurcating from several fine focuses is good for Z4-equivariant quintic system and the results where multiple singular points become isochronous centers at the same time are less in published references.

Evaluation and optimization of secondary water supply system renovation

Due to pollution in second water supply system (SWSS),nine renovation alternative plans were proposed and com-prehensive evaluations of different plan based on Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) were presented in this paper. Comparisons of advantages and disadvantages among the plans of SWSS renovations provided solid foundation for selecting the most appro-priate plan for engineering projects. In addition,a mathematical model of the optimal combination of renovation plans has been set up and software Lingo was used to solve the model. As a case study,the paper analyzed 15 buildings in Tianjin City. After simulation of the SWSS renovation system,an optimal scheme was obtained,the result of which indicates that 10 out of those 15 buildings need be renovated in priority. The renovation plans selected for each building are the ones ranked higher in the com-prehensive analysis. The analysis revealed that the optimal scheme,compared with two other randomly calculated ones,increased the percentage of service population by 19.6% and 13.6% respectively,which significantly improved social and economical benefits.

Finding energetic materials with tailored properties is always a significant challenge due to low research efficiency in trial and ***,a methodology combining domain knowledge,a machine learning algorithm,and experiments is presented for accelerating the discovery of novel energetic materials.A high-throughput virtual screening(HTVS)system integrating on-demand molecular generation and machine learning models covering the prediction of molecular properties and crystal packing mode scoring is *** the proposed HTVS system,candidate molecules with promising properties and a desirable crystal packing mode are rapidly targeted from the generated molecular space containing 25112 ***,a study of the crystal structure and properties shows that the good comprehensive performances of the target molecule are in agreement with the predicted results,thus verifying the effectiveness of the proposed *** work demonstrates a new research paradigm for discovering novel energetic materials and can be extended to other organic materials without manifest obstacles.

High-frequency MnZn soft magnetic ferrite by engineering grain boundaries with multiple-ion doping

MnZn soft magnetic ferrites have been widely utilized in power electronics,owing to the combined merits of high permeability and low energy ***,their deployment would result in a drastic increase in power dissipation at>3 MHz,thus limiting the scope extent of miniaturization,together with their ***,we report a high-performance MnZn ferrite by doping multiple ions(La,Ti,Si,Ca)at grain boundaries,achieving the most optimized power loss of 267 kW/m^(3) at 5 MHz(10 m T,100℃)and initial permeability of 644,which is much better than the previously reported results and commercial *** an improvement is attributed to weakened magnetic exchange coupling at grain-boundary regions,associated with a significant transition from the multi-to mono-domain structures,originating physically from large crystallographic mis-orientations(>25°).The present study bears important significance in understanding the intrinsic correlation between the crystallographic mis-orientation and magnetic domain structure,and provides an alternative way for optimizing high-frequency soft magnetic ferrites.

Separation/enrichment of the low-content high molecular weight natural protein using protein-imprinted polymers with ARPCs

We introduce a new method for separation/enrichment of the low-content cellular protein in high mo-lecular weight on the basis of molecular imprinting. The template protein, bacterial cloned immu-noglobulin binding protein (BiP), was selectively assembled with assistant recognition polymer chains (ARPCs) from their library, which consists of numerous limited length polymer chains with randomly distributed recognition and immobilizing sites. The assemblies of proteins and ARPCs were adsorbed by porous polymeric beads and immobilized by cross-linking polymerization. After the template was removed, the synthesized imprinted polymer was used to adsorb authentic BiP from endoplasmic re-ticulum (ER) extract, and its proportional content was enriched 45 times. It is the first time that the low-content cellular natural protein, whose molecular weight reaches 78 kDa, is enriched by molecular imprinting.

Understanding the physical metallurgy of the CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy:an atomistic simulation study

Although high-entropy alloys(HEAs)are attracting interest,the physical metallurgical mechanisms related to their properties have mostly not been clarified,and this limits wider industrial applications,in addition to the high alloy *** clarify the physical metallurgical reasons for the materials phenomena(sluggish diffusion and micro-twining at cryogenic temperatures)and investigate the effect of individual elements on solid solution hardening for the equiatomic CoCrFeMnNi HEA based on atomistic simulations(Monte Carlo,molecular dynamics and molecular statics).A significant number of stable vacant lattice sites with high migration energy barriers exists and is thought to cause the sluggish *** predict that the hexagonal close-packed(hcp)structure is more stable than the face-centered cubic(fcc)structure at 0 K,which we propose as the fundamental reason for the micro-twinning at cryogenic *** alloying effect on the critical resolved shear stress(CRSS)is well predicted by the atomistic simulation,used for a design of non-equiatomic fcc HEAs with improved strength,and is experimentally *** study demonstrates the applicability of the proposed atomistic approach combined with a thermodynamic calculation technique to a computational design of advanced HEAs.

Liver intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging for the assessment of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in children

AIM To evaluate the correlation between intravoxel incoherent motion(IVIM) diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI) parameters and the degree of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in *** This retrospective study was approved by the institutional review board. The children(≤ 18 years) who underwent liver IVIM DWI with 8 b-values under the suspicion of hepatic steatosis or fibrosis from February 2013 to November 2016 were included. Subjects were divided into normal, fatty liver(FAT), and fibrotic liver(FIB) groups. The slow diffusion coefficient(D), fast diffusion coefficient(D*), perfusion fraction(f), and apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) were measured. MR proton density fat fraction(PDFF), MR elastography(MRE), and IVIM values were *** A total of 123 children(median age of 12 years old, range: 6-18 years) were included, with 8 in the normal group, 93 in the FAT group, and 22 in the FIB group. The D* values were lower in the FIB group compared with those of the normal(P = 0.015) and FAT(P = 0.003) groups. The f values were lower in the FIB group compared with the FAT group(P = 0.001). In multivariate analyses, PDFF value was positively correlated with f value(β = 3.194, P < 0.001), and MRE value was negatively correlated with D* value(β =-7.031, P = 0.032). The D and ADC values were not influenced by PDFF or MRE *** In liver IVIM DWI with multiple b-values in children, there was a positive correlation between hepatic fat and blood volume, and a negative correlation between hepatic stiffness and endovascular blood flow velocity, while diffusion-related parameters were not affected.
