Mixed-dimensional composite structures using zero-dimensional(0D)quantum dots(QDs)and two-dimensional(2D)transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)materials are expected to attract great interest in optoelectronics due to the potential to generate new optical ***,we report on the unique optical characteristics of a devices with mixed dimensional vertically stacked structures based on tungsten diselenide(WSe_(2))/CdSeS QDs monolayer/molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))(2D/0D/2D).Specifically,it exhibits an ambipolar photoresponse characteristic,with a negative photoresponse observed in the 400-600 nm wavelength range and a positive photoresponse appeared at 700 nm *** resulted in the high negative responsivity of up to 52.22 mA·W^(−1)under 400 nm,which is 163 times higher than that of the photodetector without CdSeS *** also demonstrated the negative photoresponse,which could be due to increased carrier collision probability and non-radiative *** modeling and simulation reveal that Auger recombination among the types of non-radiative recombination is the main cause of negative photocurrent ***,we discovered ambipolar photoresponse near a specific wavelength corresponding to the energy of quantum *** study revealed interesting phenomenon in the mixed low-dimensional stacked structure and paved the way to exploit it for the development of innovative photodetection materials as well as for optoelectronic applications.

Magnesium-ion batteries(MIBs)have promising applications because of their high theoretical capacity and the natural abundance of magnesium ***,the kinetic performance and cyclic stability of cathode materials are limited by the strong interactions between Mg ions and the crystal ***,we demonstrate the unique Mg^(2+)-ion storage mechanism of a hierarchical accordion-like vanadium oxide/carbon heterointerface(V2O3@C),where the V2O3 crystalline structure is reconstructed into a MgV_(3)O_(7)·H_(2)O phase through an anodic hydration reaction upon first cycle,for the improved kinetic and cyclic *** verified by in situ/ex situ spectroscopic and electrochemical analyses,the fast charge transfer kinetics of the V2O3@C cathode were due to the crystal-reconstruction and chemically coupled *** V2O3@C demonstrated an ultrahigh rate capacity of 130.4 mAh g^(-1)at 50000 mA g^(-1)and 1000 cycles,achieving a Coulombic efficiency of 99.6%.The high capacity of 381.0 mA h g^(-1)can be attributed to the reversible Mg^(2+)-ion intercalation mechanism observed in the MgV_(3)O_(7)·H_(2)O phase using a 0.3 M Mg(TFSI)2/ACN(H_(2)O)***,within the voltage range of 2.25 V versus Mg/Mg^(2+),the V2O3@C exhibited a capacity of 245.1 mAh g^(-1)when evaluated with magnesium metal in a 0.3 M Mg(TFSI)^(2+)0.25 M MgCl_(2)/DME *** research findings have important implications for understanding the relationship between the Mg-ion storage mechanism and reconstructed crystal phase of vanadium oxides as well as the heterointerface reconstruction for the rational design of MIB cathode materials.

BACKGROUND Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis(HLH)is a rare,life-threatening disorder caused by abnormal histiocytes and T cell *** adults,it is predominantly associated with infections,cancers,and autoimmune *** polychondritis(RP),another rare disease,is diagnosed based on symptoms without specific tests,featuring cartilage inflammation characterized by swelling,redness,and pain,rarely inducing *** SUMMARY A 74-year-old woman visited the emergency room with a fever of 38.6℃.Blood tests,cultures,and imaging were performed to evaluate *** showed increased fluorescent antinuclear antibody levels and mild cytopenia,with no other specific *** revealed lymph node enlargement was observed;however,biopsy results were *** re-evaluation of the physical exam,inflammatory signs suggestive of RP were observed in the ears and nose,prompting a tissue biopsy for ***,persistent fever accompanied by cytopenia prompted a bone marrow examination,revealing hemophagocytic *** finding no significant results in blood culture,viral markers,and tissue examination of enlarged lymph nodes,HLH was diagnosed by *** involved methylprednisolone followed by *** two months,bone marrow examination confirmed resolution of hemophagocytosis,with normalization of hyperferritinemia and *** Thorough physical examination enabled diagnosis and treatment of HLH trig gered by RP in patients presenting with fever of unknown origin.

1) Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is defined as a degenerative joint disease that mainly affects the bone. This study aims to evaluate the effect of low-intensity continuous ultrasound (LICUS) treatment on the knee of osteoarthritis patients through home-based intervention using the LICUS medical device. 2) Methods: The clinical trials were designed in a single-arm, open-label, and intervention study. Thirty-five participants, including those who dropped out (12%), were screened and enrolled. The patients received LICUS (1.1 MHz, 1.5 W/cm2, collimated beams) on the knee by the instructions of the investigator at home (5 min/session, 3 times/day, for four-weeks). Outcome measures were assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) as a primary endpoint and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) as a secondary endpoint to evaluate pain relief and functional recovery of the knee between pre-treatment (baseline) and post-treatment (four-weeks). 3) Results: Knee pain scores measured using the VAS and WOMAC indices were significantly reduced after a four-week treatment with LICUS compared to baseline. Knee stiffness and functional capacity were significantly reduced after the LICUS application. In addition, there were no reports of adverse effects during the study period. 4) Conclusion: Long-term and home-based application of LICUS can be recommended as an alternative option for the treatment of OA patients, as evidenced by the effect of pain relief and knee function recovery.

Al,Ca,and Zn are representative commercial alloying elements for Mg *** investigate the effects of these elements on the deformation and recrystallization behaviors of Mg alloys,we develop interatomic potentials for the Al-Ca,Al-Zn,Mg-Al-Ca and Mg-Al-Zn systems based on the second nearest-neighbor modified embedded-atom method *** developed potentials describe structural,elastic,and thermodynamic properties of compounds and solutions of associated alloy systems in reasonable agreement with experimental data and higher-level *** applicability of these potentials to the present investigation is confirmed by calculating the generalized stacking fault energy for various slip systems and the segregation energy on twin boundaries of the Mg-Al-Ca and Mg-Al-Zn alloys,accompanied with the thermal expansion coefficient and crystal structure maintenance of stable compounds in those alloys.

Selective apoptotic effect of Zelkova serrata twig extract on mouth epidermoid carcinoma through p53 activation

Apoptosis or programmed cell death plays an essential role in chemotherapy-induced tumor cell killing, and inducers of apoptosis are commonly used in cancer therapy. Treatment with Zelkova serrata extracts was performed in human gingival fibroblast （HGF）, mouth epidermoid carcinoma cell （KB）, lower gingival squamous cancer cell （YD38） and tongue mucoepidermoid carcinoma cells （YD15）. We observed that extract prepared from Zelkova serrata twig selectively inhibited proliferation of various oral cancer cells, but not normal gingival fibroblasts, in a dose-dependent manner. Caspase-8-mediated apoptosis was induced by treatment with the extract only in mouth epidermoid carcinoma and not in other types of cancer cells, including lower gingival squamous cell carcinoma. The selective apoptotic effect of Zelkova serrata twig extract in mouth epidermoid carcinoma was dependent on normal p53 status. Apoptosis was not remarkably induced by treatment with the extract in either lower gingival squamous or tongue mucoepidermoid carcinoma cells, both of which contain abnormalities of p53. Upon treatment with Zelkova serrata twig extract, mouth epidermoid carcinoma cells accumulated in S phase by activation of p21. These data indicate that Zelkova serrata twig extract exerted a cancer type-specific, p53-dependent apoptotic effect and disturbed the cell cycle, which suggests that herbal medicine could be a treatment for specific types of cancers.

Effects of heavy rainfall on the composition of airborne bacterial communities

Wet deposition scavenges particles and particle-associated bacteria from the air column, but the impact of raindrops on various surfaces on Earth causes emission of surface-associated bacteria into the air column. Thus, after rainfall, these two mechanisms are expected to cause changes in airborne bacterial community composition （BCC）. In this study, aerosol samples were collected at a suburban site in Seoul, Korea before and after three heavy rainfall events in April, May, and July 2011. BCC was investigated by pyrosequencing the 16S rRNA gene in aerosol samples. Interestingly, the relative abundance of non-spore forming Actinobacteria operational taxonomic units （OTUs） was always higher in post-rain aerosol samples. In particular, the absolute and relative abundances of airborne Propionibacteriaceae always increased after rainfall, whereas those of airborne Firmicutes, including Carnobacteriaceae and Clostridiales, consistently decreased. Marine bacterial sequences, which were temporally important in aerosol samples, also decreased after rainfall events. Further, increases in pathogen-like sequences were often observed in post-rain air samples. Rainfall events seemed to affect airborne BCCs by the combined action of the two mechanisms, with potentially adverse effects on human and plant health.

Selecting suitable sites for mountain ginseng(Panax ginseng)cultivation by using geographically weighted logistic regression

With the well-being trends to pursue a healthy life, mountain ginseng(Panax ginseng) is rising as one of the most profitable forest products in South Korea. This study was aimed at evaluating a new methodology for identifying suitable sites for mountain ginseng cultivation in the country. Forest vegetation data were collected from 46 sites and the spatial distribution of all sites was analyzed using GIS data for topographic position, landform, solar radiation, and topographic wetness. The physical and chemical properties of the soil samples, including moisture content, p H, organic matter, total nitrogen, exchangeable cations, available phosphorous, and soil texture, were analyzed. The cultivation suitability at each site was assessed based on the environmental conditions using logistic regression(LR) and geographically weighted logistic regression(GWLR) and the results of both methods were compared. The results show that the areas with northern aspect and higher levels of solar radiation, moisture content, total nitrogen, and sand ratio are more likely to be identified as suitable sites for ginseng cultivation. In contrast to the LR, the spatial modeling with the GWLR results in an increase in the model fitness and indicates that a significant portion of spatialautocorrelation in the data decreases. A higher value of the area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve presents a better prediction accuracy of site suitability by the GWLR. The geographically weighted coefficient estimates of the model are nonstationary, and reveal that different site suitability is associated with the geographical location of the forest stands. The GWLR increases the accuracy of selecting suitable sites by considering the geographical variations in the characteristics of the cultivation sites.

Development of 3D bicontinuous metal-intermetallic composites through subsequent alloying process after liquid metal dealloying

This study presents a novel process for the fabrication of metal-intermetallic composites with a 3D bicontinuous structure, achieved through a combination of liquid metal dealloying(LMD) and subsequent alloying. Initially, porous Ti structures are produced using the LMD process, followed by immersion in a molten Mg-3Al(wt%) metal. Due to the higher thermodynamic miscibility of Al with Ti compared to Mg, the concentration of Al in the Ti matrix increases as the immersion time increases. This results in a sequential phase transition within the Ti matrix: α-Ti → Ti_(3)Al → Ti Al. The phase transition considerably affects the hardness and strength of the composite material,with the Mg-Ti_(3)Al-Ti Al composite exhibiting a maximum hardness nearly twice as high as that of the conventional Mg-Ti composite. This innovative process holds potential for the development of various bicontinuous metal-intermetallic composites.
