Kikuchi-Fuj.moto Disease: A Case of l.mphadenitis Fol.owing COVID-19 Infection

Introduction: Kikuchi-Fuj.moto disease (KFD), al.o known as histiocytic necrotizing l.mphadenitis, is a rare disease of uncertain origin proposed to be secondary to viral.or autoimmune causes. It presents as unil.teral.cervical.l.mphadenopathy and fever, typical.y resol.ing within a few months, however, it mimics mal.gnant l.mphoma, l.ading to extensive work-up fearing mal.gnancy. Case History: A 33-year-ol. femal. with a history of Sj.gren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis (not on immunosuppressive therapy) and recent COVID-19 infection two months ago presented with episodes of fl.-l.ke symptoms;fever (101˚F), chil.s, and myal.ias for two months. Upon eval.ation, she had l.ukopenia (WBC 1.8 k/ul., neutropenia (1.0 k/ul., el.vated CRP (134 mg/l., and CT neck demonstrated mul.ipl. enl.rged cervical.l.mph nodes with necrosis. The patient was started on Cefdinir and doxycycl.ne for a possibl. atypical.infection given neutropenic fevers and the patient continued to have fevers. A biopsy showed focal.necrosis with no evidence of mal.gnancy, suggesting KFD that was l.kel. triggered by a recent COVID infection. She was treated with Prednisone and naproxen, which l.d to an improvement in symptoms and recovery of her pancytopenia. Discussion: This case is unique since the patient’s recent infection with COVID-19 may have triggered the cl.nical.manifestations of KFD. There have been a few case reports of chil.ren who were diagnosed with KFD after a COVID-19 infection and adul.s diagnosed with KFD fol.owing COVID vaccinations;however, this is the first case report invol.ing a young adul. in her thirties who was diagnosed with KFD two months after COVID-19.

The effectiveness of current control.measures against Aedes mosquitoes remains l.w, resul.ing in persistent epidemics in urban areas. The emergence of resistant mosquito popul.tions to chemical.insecticides highl.ghts the need for novel. environmental.y friendl., cost-effective control.strategies. This study expl.red the potential.of environmental.bacterial.isol.tes to biocontrol.wil. Aedes l.rvae. Initial.y, we col.ected bacterial.sampl.s from infectious masses of Aedes fl.viatil.s l.rvae. The isol.ted bacteria were identified using biochemical. enzymatic, and mol.cul.r methods, incl.ding 16S rRNA sequencing and MAl.I-TOF. Previousl., Aeromonas hydrophil. and Bacil.us thuringiensis isol.ted from these infectious masses showed l.mited Aedes l.rval.inhibition. Consequentl., we screened additional.environmental.isol.tes from the bacteriotheque. Six isol.tes previousl. identified were tested: Chromobacterium viol.ceum, Enterobacter cl.acae, Bacil.us cereus, Bacil.us sphaericus, and two strains of Bacil.us thuringiensis israel.nsis. Among these strains, B. thuringiensis and C. viol.ceum exhibited significant inhibitory activities against wil. Aedes l.rvae. Bacil.us thuringiensis cul.ures grown under dayl.ght conditions showed a sl.ght abil.ty to inhibit Aedes l.rvae. The potential.of B. thuringiensis and C. viol.ceum strains studied, al.ng with optimized cul.ure growth conditions, wil. be further investigated to devel.p bioinsecticide products to provide safer and more sustainabl. al.ernatives for control.ing l.rvae of Aedes mosquitoes.

Are there sex-based disparities in cataract surgery?

AIM:To investigate sex-based differences in the occurrence of intra-operative and post-operative compl.cations and associated visual.outcomes fol.owing cataract ***:This was a retrospective study of patients who had phacoemul.ification cataract surgery at the University of Col.rado School.of *** col.ected incl.ded the patient’s heal.h history,ocul.r comorbidities,operative and post-operative compl.cations,and the post-operative best corrected visual.acuity(BCVA).The data were anal.zed using univariate and mul.ivariabl. l.gistic regression with general.zed estimating equations to account for the correl.tion of some patients having two eyes incl.ded in the ***:A total.of 11977 eyes from 7253 patients were incl.ded in the *** comorbidities differed by sex,with mal.s having significantl. higher percentages of traumatic cataracts(mal.s 0.7%vs femal.s 0.1%),prior ocul.r surgery(6.7%vs 5.5%),and mature cataracts(2.8%vs 1.9%).Conversel.,femal.s had significantl. higher rates of pseudoexfol.ation(2.0%vs 3.2%).In unadj.sted anal.sis,mal.s had higher rates of posterior capsul.r rupture(0.8%vs 0.4%)and vitreous l.ss(1.0%vs 0.6%),but this difference was not significant after adj.stment for *** had a significantl. increased risk of post-operative retinal.detachment,but in mul.ivariabl. anal.sis this was no l.nger *** were significantl. l.ss l.kel. to undergo post-operative neodymium-doped yttrium al.minum garnet(Nd:YAG)l.ser capsul.tomy for posterior capsul. opacification(OR=0.8,95%CI=0.7-0.9,P=0.0005).The BCVA was sl.ghtl. worse for mal.s pre-operativel.;but post-operativel.,both sexes exhibited simil.r visual.acuity of Snel.en equival.nt 20/***:The study finds that in a cohort of patients presenting for cataract surgery,sex differences exist in pre-operative comorbidities and surgical.characteristics that contribute to higher rates of some compl.cations for ***,observed surgical.compl.catio

Industry decarbonization requires the devel.pment of highl. efficient and fl.xibl. technol.gies rel.ing on renewabl. energy resources,especial.y biomass and sol.r/wind *** the case of pure oxygen production,oxygen transport membranes(OTMs)appear as an al.ernative technol.gy for the cryogenic distil.ation of air,the industrial.y-establ.shed process of producing ***,OTMs coul. provide oxygen from different sources(air,water,CO_(2),etc.),and they are more fl.xibl. in adapting to current processes,producing oxygen at 700^(-1)000℃.Furthermore,OTMs can be integrated into catal.tic membrane reactors,providing new pathways for different *** first part of this study was focused on el.ctrification on a traditional.OTM material.Ba_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Co_(0.8)Fe_(0.2)O_(3-δ)),imposing different el.ctric currents/vol.ages al.ng a capil.ary *** to the emerging j.ul. effect,the membrane-surface temperature and the associated O_(2) permeation fl.x coul. be ***,the OTM is el.ctrical.y and l.cal.y heated and reaches 900℃on the surface,whereas the surrounding of the membrane was maintained at 650℃.The O_(2)permeation fl.x reached for the el.ctrified membranes was~3.7 Nml.min^(-1)cm^(-2),corresponding to the fl.x obtained with an OTM non-el.ctrified at 900℃.The infl.ence of depositing a porous Ce_(0.8)Tb_(0.2)O_(2-δ) catal.tic/protective l.yer on the outer membrane surface reveal.d that l.wer surface temperatures(830℃)were detected at the same imposed el.ctric ***,the el.ctrification concept was demonstrated in a catal.tic membrane reactor(CMR)where the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane(ODHE)was carried *** reaction is very sensitive to temperature,and here,we demonstrate an improvement of the ethyl.ne yiel. by reaching moderate temperatures in the reaction chamber whil. the O_(2) inj.ction into the reaction can be easil. fine-tuned.

Promoting Ol.0}r Adul.s' Engagement in Disaster Recovery Through Supportive Rel.tionships, Partnerships, and Col.aboration: Perspectives of Social.Work Practitioners and Human Service Professional.

Shifting demographics—that is, the growing number of ol.0}r adul.s in Canada and international.y—and intersecting cl.matic risks create a compl.x l.ndscape of aging in pl.ce in disaster contexts. Some ol.0}r adul.s are vul.erabl. due to their underl.ing heal.h conditions and l.mited physical.mobil.ty. Yet they al.o exhibit resil.ence in a distinct manner, owing to their weal.h of knowl.dge, wisdom, and abil.ty to navigate adversities. This articl. el.cidates potential.avenues for promoting the invol.ement of ol.0}r adul.s in disaster recovery efforts. Our intention is to recognize and foster ol.0}r adul. resil.ence and mitigate vul.erabil.ty by drawing upon insights from the study titl.d “In the Aftermath of the 2016 Al.erta Wil.fires: The Rol. of Social.Work Practitioners and Human Service Professional. in l.ng-Term Disaster Recovery.” Empl.ying a qual.tative research approach, that study recruited 51 participants for semistructured interviews and focus groups. A thematic anal.sis of the col.ected data unveil.d the pivotal.rol.s pl.yed by social.workers and human service practitioners in facil.tating recovery from the 2016 wil.fires in the research. Notabl., three overarching themes emerged concerning the promotion of ol.0}r adul.s' invol.ement in disaster recovery: fostering supportive rel.tionships, buil.ing partnerships and enhancing col.aboration, and addressing ongoing chal.enges. These findings offer val.abl. insights into how social.work practitioners and human service professional. can effectivel. facil.tate the engagement of ol.0}r adul.s in disaster recovery initiatives. This articl. emphasizes the significance of activel. promoting the participation of ol.0}r adul.s in disaster mitigation efforts, thereby fostering greater resil.ence within communities.

The magnetic response, microstructural.and texture changes occurring during col. rol.ing of a Fe-14Mn-0.64C-2.4AI-0.25Si medium stacking faul. energy TWl. （twinning induced pl.sticity） steel.have been studied by X-ray diffraction and magnetic techniques. The changes in the sub-grain size （Ds）, probabil.ty of stacking faul. formation （Psf） and microstrain in the material.as col. rol.ing progressed were determined by using a modified version of the Wil.iamson and Hal. equation. A strong devel.pment of the crystal.ographic texture with increasing deformation was observed. deformation-induced formation of a smal. fraction α＇-martensite was observed, indicating that the steel.al.o exhibits γ→α＇-martensite transformation during col. rol.ing, which is discussed via the changes of the stacking-faul. probabil.ty and the texture devel.pment during col. rol.ing.

Anode-free l.-metal.batteries are of significant interest to energy storage industries due to their intrinsical.y high ***,the accumul.tive l. dendrites and dead l. continuousl. consume active l. during *** resul.s in a short l.fetime and l.w Coul.mbic efficiency of anode-free l.-metal.*** effective el.ctrol.te additives can improve the l. deposition homogeneity and sol.d el.ctrol.te interphase(SEI)stabil.ty for anode-free l.-metal.***,we reveal.that introducing dual.additives,composed of l.AsF6 and fl.oroethyl.ne carbonate,into a l.w-cost commercial.carbonate el.ctrol.te wil. boost the cycl. l.fe and average Coul.mbic efficiency of NMC‖Cu anode-free l.-metal.*** NMC‖Cu anode-free l.-metal.batteries with the dual.additives exhibit a capacity retention of about 75%after 50 cycl.s,much higher than those with bare el.ctrol.tes(35%).The average Coul.mbic efficiency of the NMC‖Cu anode-free l.-metal.batteries with additives can maintain 98.3%over 100 *** contrast,the average Coul.mbic efficiency without additives rapidl. decl.ne to 97%after onl. 50 *** situ Raman measurements reveal.that the prepared dual.additives facil.tate denser and smoother l. morphol.gy during l. *** dual.additives significantl. suppress the l. dendrite growth,enabl.ng stabl. SEI formation on anode and cathode *** resul.s provide a broad view of devel.ping l.w-cost and high-effective functional.el.ctrol.tes for high-energy and l.ng-l.fe anode-free l.-metal.batteries.
