The effects of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents on human retinal pigment epithelial cells under high glucose conditions

AIM： To investigate the effects of high glucose levels and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor（VEGF） agents（bevacizumab,ranibizumab and aflibercept） on retinal pigment epithelium（RPE） ***： ARPE-19 cells were cultured at different glucose levels（5.5 mmol/L,25 mmol/L,and 75 mmol/L）.Cell viability was evaluated by MTT assay at 3d after treatment with *** migration ability was measured by wound healing assay at 3d.A cell death detection kit was used to assess apoptosis at 3 and 14 *** proliferation was assessed by EdU assay at *** culture medium was treated with anti-VEGF agents at clinically relevant *** experiment was then repeated at a different glucose ***： The viability and migration of ARPE-19 cells were significantly decreased in the presence of 75 mmol/L as compared to 5.5 mmol/L *** percentage of TUNEL-positive cells was significantly increased and the proliferative potential was decreased with 75 mmol/L compared to 5.5 mmol/L *** were no significant differences in the results between 25 mmol/L and 5.5 mmol/L *** the presence of 75 mmol/L glucose,the groups treated with anti-VEGF showed decreased cell viability and proliferation and increased ***,there were no significant differences between the anti-VEGF ***： High glucose level decreases the viability,wound healing ability,and proliferation of RPE cells,while increasing ***,anti-VEGF agents interfered with the physiological functions of RPE cells under high-glucose conditions,accompanied by decreases in cell viability and proliferation.

Electrophoretic Deposition of Oxide Nanoparticles for Electron Emission Enhancement

Four oxide nanoparticles,such as yttrium oxide,lanthanum oxide,cerium oxide and zirconium oxide were coated on rhenium filaments by an electrophoretic deposition *** oxide coatings were examined by scanning electron microscopy,and electron emission characteristics of the oxide-coated rhenium were studied to find alternative oxide materials for replacing the hazardous thorium *** four oxides tested in this work,yttrium oxide and lanthanum oxide coated rhenium showed enhanced electron emission compared with an uncoated ***,lanthanum oxide coating evaporated too quickly in a vacuum chamber,and hence yttrium oxide was found to be the only alternative material for use in a routine mass *** optimum coating thickness of the yttrium oxide and lanthanum oxide was around 20 μm.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor(GIST)is a rare mesenchymal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract that has been associated with the formation of fistulas to adjacent organs in few case ***,GIST with enterohepatic fistula has not been *** we report the case of an enterohepatic fistula that occurred after embolization of a liver mass originating in the distal *** 87-year-old woman was hospitalized for *** initial conventional endoscopy,a bleeding focus in the gastrointestinal tract was not *** of massive hematochezia,enteroscopy was performed through the anus.A protruding,ulcerative mass was found in the distal ileum that was suspected to be the source of the bleeding;a biopsy sample was *** was not successful in controlling the bleeding;therefore,embolization was *** embolization,the patient developed a high fever and severe abdominal tenderness with rebound ***-up abdominopelvic computed tomography revealed an enterohepatic fistula between the liver and distal *** fistula was treated surgically by segmental resection of the distal ileum and unlooping of the liver mass.

A method for calculation of ion distribution in reaction system forming hydroxide

A formula was proposed to calculate the distribution of metal ions quantitatively in chemical reaction system forming hydroxide where precipitation and complex are formed together. The effects of some factors on formation of precipitation and complex were investigated, and the corresponding precipitation rates of zinc, iron （III）, aluminum, copper and magnesium were calculated. As a result, it shows that the proposed formula is reliable. By the proposed formula, the existence state of metal ions in hydroxides reaction system with any metal ions can be well described and the effects of some factors on the distribution of metal ions were determined.

Objective Risk factor modification is key to preventing subsequent cardiac events after a heart attack. This study was designed to investigate the disparity between preventive guidelines and clinical practice among smoking patients. Methods The study was carried out in smokers admitted with myocardial infarction (MI). Atotal of 275 patients who had been regularly followed for over one year after MI were randomly selected and enrolled in this *** investigated changes in smoking behavior and the adherence rate to ACC/AHA Guidelines for secondary prevention in patients with coronary artery disease at the time of, and one year after, the index event. Results The study population consisted of 275 patients (97.1% males) with a mean age of 57.0 ±11.2 years. Achievement of target goals at one year was as follows: smoking cessation, 52.3%; blood pressure, 83.9%; HbA1c, 32.7%; lipid profile, 65.5%; and body mass index (BMI), 50.6%. Over one year, 80% of the patients attempted to quit smoking; 27% of them re-started smoking within one month after discharge while 65% succeeded in cessation of smoking. At one year, only 52% of the patients overall had stopped smoking. From the multivariate logistic analysis including smoking patterns and clinical characteristics, the severity of coronary artery disease was the only independent predictor for smoking cessation (Relative risk (RR): 1.230; P = 0.022). Conclusions Only a small percentage of MI patients adhere to guidelines for secondary prevention and a sizable proportion fail to stop smoking. These findings underscore the need for an effective patient education system.

Extracellular matrix(ECM)undergoes dynamic inflation that dynamically changes ligand nanospacing but has not been *** we utilize ECM-mimicking photocontrolled supramolecular ligand-tunable Azo^(+)self-assembly composed of azobenzene derivatives(Azo^(+))stacked via cation-πinteractions and stabilized with RGD ligand-bearing poly(acrylic acid).Near-infrared-upconverted-ultraviolet light induces cis-Azo^(+)-mediated inflation that suppresses cation-πinteractions,thereby inflating liganded *** inflation increases nanospacing of“closely nanospaced”ligands from 1.8 nm to 2.6 nm and the surface area of liganded selfassembly that facilitate stem cell adhesion,mechanosensing,and differentiation both in vitro and in vivo,including the release of loaded molecules by destabilizing water bridges and hydrogen bonds between the Azo^(+)molecules and loaded ***,visible light induces trans-Azo^(+)formation that facilitates cation-πinteractions,thereby deflating self-assembly with“closely nanospaced”ligands that inhibits stem cell adhesion,mechanosensing,and *** stark contrast,when ligand nanospacing increases from 8.7 nm to 12.2 nm via the inflation of self-assembly,the surface area of“distantly nanospaced”ligands increases,thereby suppressing stem cell adhesion,mechanosensing,and ***-term in vivo stability of self-assembly via real-time tracking and upconversion are *** tuning of ligand nanospacing can unravel dynamic ligand-cell interactions for stem cell-regulated tissue regeneration.

在当前中美战略博弈加剧形势下,东亚地区正处于历史性的分界点,中日韩和美日韩两组三角分别构成地区形势的两个趋势——“共同体”和“新冷战”。中日韩关系决定着“东亚共同体”的未来,美日韩关系走向同盟化是传统冷战的产物,站在助推“新冷战”的最前线,正在分裂东亚地区。日韩重属于这两组关系,相当程度上左右着东亚地区未来走向。当前美日韩合作仍呈现走强的态势,美国企图将其发展成为东亚地区同盟体制。中日韩合作具有重要意义,三国存在很多共同基础,具有引领“东亚共同体”的巨大潜力。
