Virtual world simulation offers tremendous potential opportunities to improve, and optimize, individual and collective echelon training for the military. The US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Military Open Simulator Enterprise Strategy (MOSES) project’s charter is to investigate simulation-based training technology for use in military specific training domains. Of particular interest are attributes of virtual worlds such as geographically distributed large-scale trainee support. We have initiated a series of experiments to determine appropriate benchmarks for simulator performance and to determine appropriate independent variables in order to create a robust predictive model that will enable virtual world training scenario designers to calculate, a priori, the number of trainees that may synchronously operate in a virtual world. The present paper’s purposes were to determine the effect that virtual world region fidelity had on server performance and determine whether this independent variable would be appropriate for inclusion into our predictive model. We found that region fidelity had a statistically significant effect on the simulator’s processor memory usage but had no significant effect on the simulator’s vertical scalability, CPU usage nor network performance. In this paper, we discourse on the purpose of this research, our experimental methodology and results, and discuss the significance of our findings.

Background:Daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA)is vital to the physical,mental,and social well-being of *** restrictions during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic included the closure of schools and physical activity(PA)amenities across the *** study aimed to examine the impact of the pandemic on the PA and play behavior of *** and to provide evidencebased recommendations to improve their ***:A cross-sectional,online,parent-reported survey was conducted of children aged 318 years between April and June 2020 to assess light PA and MVPA using a modified Godin Leisure-Time Exercise *** items included family/child socioeconomic demographics,child adaptability to the pandemic,and community *** survey was shared through social media and snowball sampling ***:Analysis of 1310 surveys indicated child PA scores declined significantly during the pandemic(from 56.6 to 44.6,max 119,p<0.001).Specifically,MVPA score decreased(from 46.7 to 34.7,max 98,p<0.001)while light PA remained the ***-based changes were seen in the quantity,variety,and intensity of PA,with the lowest pandemic-related impact seen in preschoolers and the highest in high schoolers(4.7 vs.17.2,p<0.001).Community-based peer PA decreased across all age ***:This study shows decreased PA levels in ***,according to parent reporting,during the COVID-19 *** for community leaders,educators,and parents to improve PA in children are *** continued spread of COVID-19,these results and recommendations may be imperative to the physical well-being of ***.

Droughts occur in all climatic regions around the world costing a large expense to global economies. Reasonably accurate prediction of drought events helps water managers proper planning for utilization of limited water resources and distribution of available waters to different sectors and avoid catastrophic consequences. Therefore, a means to create a simplistic approach for forecasting drought conditions with easily accessible parameters is highly desirable. This study proposes and evaluates newly developed accurate prediction models utilizing various hydrologic, meteorological, and geohydrology parameters along with the use of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models with various forecast lead times. The present study develops a multitude of forecasting models to predict drought indices such as the Standard Precipitation Index with a lead-time of up to 6 months, and the Soil Moisture Index with a lead-time of 3 months. Furthermore, prediction models with the capability of approximating surface and groundwater storage levels including the Ross River Dam level have been developed with relatively high accuracy with a lead-time of 3 months. The results obtained from these models were compared to current values, revealing that ANN based approach can be used as a simple and effective predictive model that can be utilized for prediction of different aspects of drought scenarios in a typical study area like Townsville, North Queensland, Australia which had suffered severe recent drought conditions for almost six recent years (2014 to early 2019).

AIM: To determine if anesthesiologist-monitored useof propofol results in improved detection of adenomaswhen compared with routine conscious sedation. METHODS: This retrospective study was conductedat two separate hospital-based endoscopy units whereapproximately 12 000 endoscopic procedures are permed annually, with one endoscopy unit exclusivelyusing anesthesiologist-monitored propofol. Three thousand two hundred and fifty-two patients underwent initial screening or surveillance colonoscopies. Our primaryend point was the adenoma detection rate, def ined asthe number of patients in whom at least one adenomawas found, associated with the type of sedation. RESULTS: Three thousand two hundred and fi ftytwooutpatient colonoscopies were performed by fi ve selected endoscopists. At least one adenoma was detected in 27.6% of patients (95% CI = 26.0-29.1) with no difference in the detection rate between the anesthes-ologist propofol and group and the gastroenterologist-midazolam/fentanyl group (28.1% vs 27.1%, P = 0.53). CONCLUSION: The type of sedation used during colonoscopy does not affect the number of patients in whom adenomatous polyps are detected.
