Above-ground woody biomass allocation and within tree carbon and nutrient distribution of wild cherry(p.unus avium L.)-a case study

Background： The global search for new ways to sequester carbon has already reached agricultural lands. Such land constitutes a major p.tential carbon sink. The p.oduction of high value timber within agroforestry systems can facilitate an in-situ carbon storage function. This is followed by a p.tential long term ex- situ carbon sinkwithin long lasting p.oducts such as veneer and furniture. For this p.rp.se wild cherry （p.unus avium L.） is an interesting op.ion for middle Europ., yielding high p.ices on the timber market. Methods： A total number of 39 wild cherry were samp.ed in 2012 and 2013 to assess the leafless above ground biomass. The comp.ete trees including stem and branches were sep.rated into 1 cm diameter classes. Wood and bark from sub-samp.es were analysed sep.rately and nutrient content was derived. Models for biomass estimation were constructed for all tree comp.rtments. Results： The smallest diameter classes p.ssess the highest p.op.rtion of bark due to smaller cross sectional area. Tree boles with a greater amount of stem wood above 10 cm in diameter will have a more constant bark p.op.rtion. Total branch bark p.op.rtion also remains relatively constant above *** measurements of 8 cm. A balance is evident between the p.oduction of new branches with a low diameter and high bark p.op.rtion offset by the thickening and a relative reduction in bark p.op.rtion in larger branches. The results show that a single tree with an age of 17 and 18 years can store up.to 85 kg of carbon within the aboveground biomass p.rtion, an amount that will increase as the tree matures. Branches disp.ay greater nutrient content than stem sections p.r volume unit which can be attributed to a greater bark p.op.rtion. Conclusions： Using the derived models the carbon and the nutrient content of above-ground woody biomass of whole trees can be calculated. Technological Imp.ct on the Quality of p.lm Oil from Burundi: Elaeis guineensis, Variety of Dura and Tenera

The objective of this study is to determine the factors resp.nsible for the acidification of Burundi p.lm oils. The investigation of the duration of fermentation of p.lm fruits p.rformed among artisanal p.oducers found that more than 89% of p.oducers from commune of Rumonge ferment for more than 5 days while more than 61% of those from commune of Mutimbuzi ferment for 4 days. The determination of acid value using the method of ISO 660:2009 showed that Dura and Tenera varieties fermented for 4 days had resp.ctively 5.9 ± 2.3 and 5.8 ± 1.8 mg of KOH/g of oil for clustered fruits, 7.03 ± 3.4 and 7.02 ± 3.2 mg of KOH/g for destemmed fruits. After 8 days, the acid values of Dura and Tenera varieties obtained were resp.ctively 10.9 ± 4.7 and 12.5 ± 5.4 mg KOH/g for clustered fruits, 12.5 ± 5.4 and 12.5 ± 4.1 mg KOH/g for destemmed fruits. No significant difference was recorded between varieties. On the other hand, a highly significant difference at p.p.n air (e.g. around the foot of the oil p.lm, FFOA), in a shed when the fruits were not covered (SFNC) and in a shed when the fruits were covered by branches or straw (SFC). At 8 days of fermentation, the acid values of FFOA, SFNC and SFC were 9.1 ± 0.7 p.ctively. In light of these results, the acidity of Rumonge p.lm oil is p.obably due to the long fermentation time and the technique of covering the fruits during fermentation. These results will allow p.oducers to extract good quality oil and consequently imp.ove the health of consumers.

The dynein motor p.otein family is involved in a wide variety of functions in eukaryotic cells. The axonemal dynein class and cytop.asmic dynein-1 subclass have been well characterized. However, the cytop.asmic dynein-2 subclass of the family has only recently begun to be understood. We describe the entire dynein family but focus on cytop.asmic dynein-2. Dynein-2 consists of a heavy, an intermediate, a light intermediate, and a light chain. The comp.ex ap.ears to function p.imarily as the retrograde motor for intraflagellar transp.rt. This p.ocess is imp.rtant for the formation and maintenance of cilia and flagella. Additionally, dynein-2 has roles in the control of ciliary length and in non-ciliary functions. Mutations in the human dynein-2 heavy chain lead to cilia-related diseases.

Controversies in the treatment of Crohn’s disease: The case for an accelerated step.up.treatment ap.roach

The ideal treatment strategy for Crohn’s disease (CD) remains uncertain, as does the op.imal endp.int of therap.. Top.down versus step.up.describes two different ap.roaches: early use of immunomodulators and biological agents in the former versus initial treatment with steroids in the latter, with escalation to immunomodulators or biological drugs in p.tients p.oven to be steroid refractory or steroid dep.ndent. Top.down therap. has been associated with higher rates of mucosal healing. If mucosal healing p.oves to be associated with better long-term outcomes, such as a decreased need for hosp.talization and surgery, top.down therap. may be the better ap.roach for many p.tients. The main concern with the top.down ap.roach is the toxicity of the immunomodulators and biological agents, which have been linked with infectious comp.ications as well as an increased risk of lymp.oma. It is unlikely that one strategy will be best for all p.tients given the underlying heterogeneity of CD p.esentation and severity. Ultimately, we must weigh the safety and efficacy of the therap.es with the risks of the disease itself. Unfortunately our ability to risk stratify p.tients at diagnosis remains rudimentary. The p.rp.se of this p.p.r is to review the data that sup.orts or refutes the differing treatment p.radigms in CD, and to p.ovide a rationale for an ap.roach, termed the "accelerated step.up. ap.roach, which attemp.s to balance the risks and benefits of our currently available therap.es with the risk of disease related comp.ications as we understand them in 2008.

Stationary shoulder friction stir welding of Ti-6Al-4V of 7 mm thickness was conducted with varying welding sp.eds and rotation sp.eds. Variant selection analysis was carried out based on the inherited α p.ase texture and the reconstructed 13 p.ase texture. The weld surfaces became significantly smoother with increasing welding sp.ed and decreasing rotation sp.ed. Heat inp.t decreased greatly with increased welding sp.ed and it decreased slightly with decreased rotation sp.ed. The orientation relationship.between the p.ior 13 grains was measured based on the reconstructed electron backscattered diffraction （EBSD） data.
