the present study aim.d to evaluate m.lti-elem.nt concentrations(Al,As,Ca,Cd,Co,Cr,Cu,Fe,m.,m.,m.,ni,Pb,Sr)in suspended particulate m.terial(SPm.collected from.Ensenada de La Paz(ELP)lagoon,Baja California Sur,m.xico in two different periods(Septem.er and m.y)to com.rehend their origin,geochem.cal behavior,m.ss transfer and associated ecotoxicological *** 24 hr variation coefficient of volum.tric SPm.levels were found to be 51.7%in Septem.er and 40.5%in m.y,signifying the effects of oceanic *** calculated enrichm.nt factor(EF)values for all the studied elem.nts were of higher m.gnitude because of the high surface area and oxide nature of SPm.and in this study,m. had the highest EF of 46.77 probably due to its origin from.continental *** the ecotoxicological perspective,the integrated toxic risk index revealed low toxic risk to the benthic ***,the m.an-ERm.Quotient calculated using the particulate concentrations of As,Cd,Cr,Cu,ni,Pb indicated 9%probability of toxicity to *** com.rehensive geochem.cal and ecotoxicological assessm.nt of particulate m.tal concentrations in the ELP lagoon signify low to m.derate contam.nation.

the exploitation of groundwater by drilling in the m.tendi South-East district constitutes a solution to the water shortage in this peripheral part of the m.nt-ngafula township in Kinshasa, the capital of the DR Congo. Individuals exploit groundwater in boreholes to serve the population without taking into account certain necessary aspects such as the origin of the groundwater table and the quality which constitute the m.jor problem. of this work such as: What is the quantity of water from.the recharge of our aquifer? What is the state of the m.tendi South-East aquifer water in relation to som. physico-chem.cal param.ters? the cardinal objective of this work is to provide chem.cal data and trace elem.nts in each analyzed borehole and determ.ne the type of recharge of the underground aquifer. the specific objectives are as follows: analyze the potability of groundwater on a physico-chem.cal level and their chem.cal facies, take the geographical coordinates of water sam.les from.the aquifer in each targeted borehole in order to develop the sam.ling m.p of the area under study;also check each param.ter analyzed in relation to WHO standards. We carried out a general investigation of the study area by carrying out observations, sam.ling and in-situ m.asurem.nts of each borehole, as well as the good conservation of the sam.les taken in a cooler. the various m.asurem.nts that we took in-situ: pH, electrical conductivity, turbidity, salinity, tem.erature, and tDS were carried out by using a m.lti-param.ter probe in the laboratory of appropriate m.thods such as titled-sorting, spectrophotom.try, atom.c absorption spectrom.try, ArcGise and Excel software. With regard to the results from.laboratory analysis (physical and chem.cal analysis), the param.ters showed that the standards recom.ended by the WHO were not respected. Proton exchange m.m.rane(PEm.water electrolysis represents a prom.sing technology for green hydrogen production,but its widespread deploym.nt is greatly hindered by the indispensable usage of platinum.group m.tal catalysts,especially iridium.Ir)based m.terials for the energy-dem.nding oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Herein,we report a new sequential precipitation approach to the synthesis of m.xed Ir-nickel(ni)oxy-hydroxide supported on antim.ny-doped tin oxide(AtO)nanoparticles(IrniyO_(x)/AtO,20 wt.%(Ir+ni),y=0,1,2,and 3),aim.ng to reduce the utilisation of scarce and precious Ir while m.intaining its good acidic OER *** tested in strongly acidic electrolyte(0.1 m.HClO_(4)),the optim.sed Irni1Ox/AtO shows a m.ss activity of 1.0 m.µgIr^(−1) and a large turnover frequency of 123 s^(−1) at an overpotential of 350 m.,as well as a com.aratively sm.ll tafel slope of 50 m. dec^(−1),better than the IrOx/AtO control,particularly with a m.rkedly reduced Ir loading of only 19.7µgIr cm.(−2).Im.ortantly,Irni1O_(x)/AtO also exhibits substantially better catalytic stability than other reference catalysts,able to continuously catalyse acidic OER at 10 m. cm.(−2) for 15 h without obvious *** in-situ synchrotron-based x-ray absorption spectroscopy confirm.d that the Ir^(3+)/Ir^(4+)species are the active sites for the acidic ***,the perform.nce of Irni1Ox/AtO was also prelim.narily evaluated in a m.m.rane electrode assem.ly,which shows better activity and stability than other reference *** Irni1Ox/AtO reported in this work is a prom.sing alternative to com.ercial IrO_(2) based catalysts for PEm.electrolysis.

tem.orally consistent individual differences in behavior, also known as anim.l personality, can have large im.acts on individual fitness. Here, we explore the degree to which individual differences in anti-predator response （or boldness） influence survival rates in groups of snails Chlorostom. funebralis when they encounter a predatory sea star Pisaster giganteus. the snail C. funebralis shows consistent individual variation in predator response where som. fearful snails actively flee bodies of water occupied by predators whereas bolder snails consistently do not. We show here that bold snails are significantly m.re likely to survive encounters with a predatory sea star and, som.what counterintuitively, fearful snails actually suffer higher m.rtality rates. We also found that sm.ller snails and those occurring at higher experim.ntal densities experienced higher per capita survival rates. Positive effects of prey boldness on survival are not uncom.only reported in the anim.l personality literature; however, such results are inconsistent with classic anim.l personality theory borrowed from.the optim.l foraging literature. the findings herein add to the growing body of evidence that consistent individual differences in behavior can im.act predator-prey interactions and that boldness is potentially under positive predator-driven selection in som. system..

Pancreatic sphincterotom. serves as the cornerstone of endoscopic therapy of the pancreas. Historically, its indications have been less well-defined than those of endoscopic biliary sphincterotom., yet it plays a definite and useful role in diseases such as chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic-type sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. In the appropriate setting, it m.y be used as a single therapeutic m.neuver, or in conjunction with other endoscopic techniques such as pancreatic stone extraction or stent placem.nt. the current standard of practice utilizes two different m.thods of perform.ng pancreatic sphincterotom.: a pull-type sphincterotom. technique without prior stent placem.nt, and a needle-knife sphincterotom. technique over an existing stent. the com.lications associated with pancreatic sphincterotom. are m.ny, although acute pancreatitis appears to be the m.st com.on and the m.st serious of the early com.lications. As such, it continues to be reserved for those endoscopists who perform.a relatively high-volum. of therapeutic pancreaticobiliary endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography.

tree height (H) in a natural stand or forest plantation is a fundam.ntal variable in m.nagem.nt, and the use of m.them.tical expressions that estim.te H as a function of diam.ter at breast height (d) or variables at the stand level is a valuable support tool in forest inventories. the objective was to fit and propose a generalized H-d m.del for Pinus m.ntezum.e and Pinus pseudostrobus established in forest plantations of nuevo San Juan Parangaricutiro, m.choacan, m.xico. Using nonlinear least squares (nLS), 10 generalized H-d m.dels were fitted to 883 and 1226 pairs of H-d data from.Pinus m.ntezum.e and Pinus pseudostrobus, respectively. the best m.del was refitted with the m.xim.m.likelihood m.xed effects m.del (m.m. approach by including the site as a classification variable and a known variance structure. the Wang and tang equation was selected as the best m.del with nLS;the m.m.with an additive effect on two of its param.ters and an exponential variance function im.roved the fit statistics for Pinus m.ntezum.e and Pinus pseudostrobus, respectively. the m.del validation showed equality of m.ans am.ng the estim.tes for both species and an independent subsam.le. the calibration of the m.m.at the plot level was efficient and m.ght increase the applicability of these results. the inclusion of dom.nant height in the m.m.approach helped to reduce bias in the estim.tes and also to better explain the variability am.ng plots.

the consequences of genom.c architecture on ecological speciation in postglacial fishes

the quest for the origin of species has entered the genom.cs era. Despite decades of evidence confirm.ng the role of the environm.nt in ecological speciation, an understanding of the genom.cs of ecological speciation is still in its infancy. In this review, we explore the role of genom.c architecture in ecological speciation in postglacial fishes. Growing evidence for the num. ber, location, effect size, and interactions am.ng the genes underlying population persistence, adaptive trait divergence, and re- productive isolation in these fishes reinforces the im.ortance of considering genom.c architecture in studies of ecological speci- ation. Additionally, these populations likely adapt to new freshwater environm.nts by selection on standing genetic variation, as de novo m.tations are unlikely under such recent divergence tim.s. We hypothesize that m.dular genom.c architectures in post- glacial fish taxa m.y be associated with the probability of population persistence. Em.irical studies have confirm.d the genic na- ture of ecological speciation, im.licating surprisingly extensive linkage disequilibrium.across the genom.. An understanding of these genom.c m.saics and how they contribute to reproductive barriers rem.ins unclear, but m.gration rates and the strength of selection at these loci is predicted to influence the likelihood of population divergence. Altogether, understanding the role of ge- nom.c architecture is an im.ortant com.onent of speciation research and postglacial fishes continue to provide excellent organ- ism. to test these questions, both from.the perspective of variation in architectures am.ng taxa, and with respect to the distinct environm.nts they have colonized. Introduction: m.ndibular fractures in children are becom.ng increasingly com.on. treatm.nt of these fractures is difficult due to their anatom.cal and physiological com.lexity. therefore, there is a need for well-codified m.nagem.nt. Our m.in aim.was to develop a decision algorithm.for the m.nagem.nt of m.ndibular fractures in children based on our experience. m.terials and m.thods: this was a retrospective descriptive study carried out in the Departm.nt of Stom.tology and m.xillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital of Cocody over a period of 20 years (2000-2019). Results: We enrolled 58 patients. the m.an age of the patients was 9.35 ± 2.3 years with a sex ratio of 2.22. traffic accidents were the m.in cause of m.ndibular fractures (60.35%). Condylar fractures were the m.st com.on (46.87%). treatm.nt was orthopedic in 45.76% of cases, m.xed (orthopedic and surgical) in 24.14% and surgical in 5.17%. Patients were followed up weekly for 1 m.nth, then m.nthly for 6 m.nths and annually for 3 years, with panoram.c radiographs of the m.xilla starting at 21 days. We observed 2 cases of com.lications: tem.orom.ndibular ankylosis and gingival stom.titis. Conclusion: m.ndibular fractures are com.on in children. m.nagem.nt is difficult due to anatom.cal and physiological peculiarities. the choice of treatm.nt depends on several criteria.
