Interactive Effects of Elevated CO_2 and Ozone on Leaf Thermotolerance in Field-grown Glycine max

Humans are increasing atmospheric CO2, ground-level ozone （O3）, and mean and acute high temperatures. Laboratory studies show that elevated CO2 can increase thermotolerance of photosynthesis in C3 plants. O3-related oxidative stress may offset benefits of elevated CO2 during heat-waves. We determined effects of elevated CO2 and O3 on leaf thermotolerance of field-grown Glycine max （soybean, C3）. Photosynthetic electron transport （Фet） was measured in attached leaves heated in situ and detached leaves heated under ambient CO2 and O3. Heating decreased Фet, which O3 exacerbated. Elevated CO2 prevented O3-related decreases during heating, but only increased Фet under ambient O3 in the field. Heating decreased chlorophyll and carotenoids, especially under elevated CO2. Neither CO2 nor O3 affected heat-shock proteins. Heating increased catalase （except in high O3） and Cu/Zn-superoxide dismutase （SOD）, but not Mn- SOD; CO2 and O3 decreased catalase but neither SOD. Soluble carbohydrates were unaffected by heating, but increased in elevated CO2. Thus, protection of photosynthesis during heat stress by elevated CO2 occurs in field-grown soybean under ambient O3, as in the lab, and high CO2 limits heat damage under elevated O3, but this protection is likely from decreased photorespiration and stomatal conductance rather than production of heat-stress adaptations.

Mycotoxin detection——Recent trends at global level

Mycotoxin contamination in agro-food systems has been a serious concern globally during the last few decades. Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi when they grow in agro-food products and feedstuff. Several detection techniques have been developed in recent years to detect mycotoxins in the food and feed effectively. HPLC based tech- niques are very common in usage in the laboratories for the testing of mycotoxins. In recent years, immuno-based assays is widely used and have been reported at large due to its sensitivity and limited detection time. Immuno assay-based kits were developed effectively to be used in the fields and in storage systems to detect the mycotoxin levels. Microarray-based immunoassays developed in the recent years could simultaneously detect afiatoxin, ochratoxin, and zearalenone with the higher sensitivity. Aptamer-based assays could target the detection of ochratoxin and aflatoxins and fumonisins at high specificity in food products. In recent years, several assays reported for the simultaneous multiple detection of different mycotoxin was based on HPLC and LC-MS/MS. There is a need for the use of these advanced technologies in the com- mercial scale.

Genomic mosaicism due to homoeologous exchange generates extensive phenotypic diversity in nascent allopolyploids

Allopolyploidy is an important process in plant speciation, yet newly formed allopolyploid species typically suffer from extreme genetic bottlenecks. One escape from this impasse might be homoeologous meiotic pairing, during which homoeologous exchanges(HEs) generate phenotypically variable progeny. However,the immediate genome-wide patterns and resulting phenotypic diversity generated by HEs remain largely unknown. Here, we analyzed the genome composition of 202 phenotyped euploid segmental allopolyploid individuals from the fourth selfed generation following chromosomal doubling of reciprocal F1 hybrids of crosses between rice subspecies, using whole-genome sequencing. We describe rampant occurrence of HEs that, by overcoming incompatibility or conferring superiority of hetero-cytonuclear interactions, generate extensive and individualized genomic mosaicism across the analyzed tetraploids. We show that the resulting homoeolog copy number alteration in tetraploids affects known-function genes and their complex genetic interactions, in the process creating extraordinary phenotypic diversity at the population level following a single initial hybridization. Our results illuminate the immediate genomic landscapes possible in a tetraploid genomic environment, and underscore HE as an important mechanism that fuels rapid phenotypic diversification accompanying the initial stages of allopolyploid evolution.

Insight into the effects of electrochemical factors on host-guest interaction induced signature events in a biological nanopore

The signature events caused by host-guest interactions in the nanopore system can be used as a novel and characteristic signal in quantitative detection and analysis of various ***,the effect of several electrochemical factors on the host-guest interactions in nanopore still remains ***,we systematically studied host-guest interactions,especially oscillation of DNA-azide adamantane@cucurbit[6]inα-Hemolysin nanopore under varying pH,concentration of electrolytes and counterions(Li+,Na+,K+).Our results indicate correlations between the change of pH and the duration of the oscillation *** addition,the asymmetric electrolyte concentration and the charge of the counterions affects the frequency of signature events in oscillation signals,and even the integrity of the protein *** study provides insight into the design of a future biosensing platform based on signature oscillation signals of the host-guest interaction within a nanopore.

青藏高原及其周边地区冰湖灾害频发,目前对其灾害特征及导致的破坏缺乏系统的分析.本研究旨在揭示冰湖灾害过去和未来的变化趋势及其对基础设施造成的影响,以指导区域及跨境流域冰湖灾害防控技术和策略的构建.研究梳理了1900-2022年间发生的298例冰湖灾害事件,发现其呈增长的趋势,尤其是1964年以来的部分冰湖灾害严重损坏了下游基础设施,不同类型冰湖灾害在空间分布、爆发和成灾特征等方面存在明显差异.例如,西斯帕冰川阻塞湖在2019-2022年连续爆发了5次溃决洪水,最近一次冲毁了下游中巴公路的桥梁和路基,影响中巴经贸.高山区冰川冰湖变化、交通和水电等基础设施及人口增长,致使冰湖灾害风险上升.为此,重大基础设施的规划应充分考虑相关风险,建立防控措施以保障人员和基础设施安全.

United States-based practice patterns and resource utilization in advanced neuroendocrine tumor treatment

AIM: To assess advanced neuroendocrine tumor (NET) treatment patterns and resource utilization by tumor progression stage and tumor site in the United States. METHODS: United States Physicians meeting eligibility criteria were provided with online data extraction forms to collect patient chart data on recent NET patients. Resource utilization and treatment pattern data were collected over a baseline period (after diagnosis and before tumor progression), as well as initial and secondary progression periods, with progression defined according to measureable radiographic evidence of tumor progression. Resource categories used in the analysis include: Treatments (e.g. , surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapies), hospitalizations and physician visits, diagnostic tests (biomarkers, imaging, laboratory tests). Comparisons between categories of resource utilization and tumor progression status were examined using univariate (by tumor site) and multivariate analyses (across all tumor sites). RESULTS: Fifty-five physicians were included in the study and completed online data extraction forms using the charts of 110 patients. The physician sample showed a relatively even distribution for those affiliated with academic versus community hospitals (46% vs 55%). Forty (36.3%) patients were reported to have pancreatic NET (pNET), while 70 (63.6%) patients had gastrointestinal tract (GI)/Lung as the primary NET site. Univariate analysis showed the proportion of patients hospitalized increased from 32.7% during baseline to 42.1% in the progression stages. While surgeries were performed at similar proportions overall at baseline and progression, pNET patients, were more likely than GI/Lung NET patients to have undergone surgery during the baseline (33.3% vs 25.0%) and any progression periods (26.7% vs 23.4%). Tunable nonlinear refractive index of two-dimensional MoS2, WS2, and MoSe2 nanosheet dispersions [Invited]

Liquid-phase-exfoliation technology was utilized to prepare layered MoS2, WS2, and MoSe2 nanosheets in cyclohexylpyrrolidone. The nonlinear optical response of these nanosheets in dispersions was investigated by observing spatial self-phase modulation（SSPM） using a 488 nm continuous wave laser beam. The diffraction ring patterns of SSPM were found to be distorted along the vertical direction right after the laser traversing the nanosheet dispersions. The nonlinear refractive index of the three transition metal dichalcogenides dispersions n2 was measured to be 10-7cm2W-1, and the third-order nonlinear susceptibility χ（3）10-9 esu. The relative change of effective nonlinear refractive index Δn2e∕n（2e） of the MoS2, WS2, and MoSe2 dispersions can be modulated 0.012–0.240, 0.029–0.154, and 0.091–0.304, respectively, by changing the incident intensities. Our experimental results imply novel potential application of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides in nonlinear phase modulation devices.
