Penile rehabilitation after inflatable penile prosthesis(IPP)implantation for the treatment of erectile dysfunction includes leaving the device partially inflated so as to preserve the penile length and to maintain *** a partially inflated device,the penis becomes more sensitive and more susceptible to unintended insults during the immediate postoperative ***“wang Collar,”a device intended to protect the penis in the early postoperative period,is hereby *** hundred and forty-eight patients had the 44wang Collar"included as part of their post-1 PP management from August 2014 to February *** protective collar,devised from a polystyrene cup with the bottom removed,is secured with a tape over the previously dressed and partially inflated *** order to evaluate the effectiveness of this device,we conducted surveys on the perioperative staff at three different ***“wang Collar”has been found to be beneficial in the early postoperative care of *** on the answers to our questionnaire,the perioperative personnel found this device to be highly protective,especially when transporting the patient after IPP surgery,easy to work with,and almost never bothersome or irritative to the *** present a novel penile device after IPP placement,which we have found to improve patient satisfaction in the postoperative *** addition,it eases the care of the patient by the perioperative *** is now our routine to use this device after IPP *** research is necessary to evaluate whether this device can decrease postoperative wound complications.

Confocal Raman microscopy is currently used for label-free optical sensing and imaging within the biological,engineering,and physical sciences as well as in ***,currently these methods have limitations,including their low spatial resolution and poor focus stability,that restrict the breadth of new *** paper now introduces differential-confocal controlled Raman microscopy as a technique that fuses differential confocal microscopy and Raman spectroscopy,enabling the point-to-point collection of three-dimensional nanoscale topographic information with the simultaneous reconstruction of corresponding chemical *** microscope collects the scattered Raman light together with the Rayleigh light,both as Rayleigh scattered and reflected light(these are normally filtered out in conventional confocal Raman systems).Inherent in the design of the instrument is a significant improvement in the axial focusing resolution of topographical features in the image(to^1 nm),which,when coupled with super-resolution image restoration,gives a lateral resolution of 220 *** using differential confocal imaging for controlling the Raman imaging,the system presents a significant enhancement of the focusing and measurement accuracy,precision,and stability(with an antidrift capability),mitigating against both thermal and vibrational *** also demonstrate an improved scan speed,arising as a consequence of the nonaxial scanning mode.

Walegen Au deposit is closely correlated with granitic intrusions of Triassic age, which are composed of granite and quartz porphyries. Both granite porphyry and quartz porphyry consist of quartz, feldspar and muscovite as primary minerals. WeaMy peraluminous granite porphyry （A/ CNK=1.10-1.15） is enriched in LREE, depleted in HREE with Nb-Ta-Ti anomalies, and displays subduction-related geochemistry. Quartz porphyry is strongly peraluminous （A/CNK=1.64-2.81） with highly evolved components, characterized by lower TiO2, REE contents, Mg#, K/Rb, Nb/Ta, Zr/Hf ratios and higher Rb/Sr ratios than the granite porphyry. REE patterns of quartz porphyry exhibit lanthanide tetrad effect, resulting from mineral fractionation or participation of fluids with enriched F and CI. LA- ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating indicates quartz porphyry formed at 233±3 Ma. The ages of relict zircons from Triassic magmatic rocks match well with the detrital zircons from regional area. In addition, εHf（t） values of Triassic magmatic zircons from the granite and quartz porphyries are -14.2 to -9.1 （with an exception of ＋4.1） and -10.8 to -8.6 respectively, indicating a crustal-dominant source. Regionally, numerous Middle Triassic granitoids were previously reported to be formed under the consumption of Paleotethyan Ocean. These facts indicate that the granitic porphyries from Walegen Au deposit may have been formed in the processes of the closing of Paleotethyan Ocean, which could correlate with the arc-related magmatism in the Kunlun orogen to the west and the Qinling orogen to the east.

The two-electron reduction of molecular oxygen represents an effective strategy to enable the green, mild and on-demand synthesis of hydrogen peroxide. Its practical viability, however, hinges on the development of advanced electrocatalysts, preferably composed of non-precious elements, to selectively expedite this reaction, particularly in acidic medium. Our study here introduces 2H-MoTe;for the first time as the efficient non-precious-metal-based electrocatalyst for the electrochemical production of hydrogen peroxide in acids. We show that exfoliated 2H-MoTe;nanoflakes have high activity(onset overpotential ～140 mV and large mass activity of 27 A g;at 0.4 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode), great selectivity（H;O;percentage up to 93%） and decent stability in 0.5 M H;SO;. Theoretical simulations evidence that the high activity and selectivity of 2H-MoTe;arise from the proper binding energies of HOO;and O;at its zigzag edges that jointly favor the two-electron reduction instead of the four-electron reduction of molecular oxygen.

AIM: To compare thromboembolism rates between hospitalized patients with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis and other hospitalized patients at high risk for thromboembolism. To compare thromboembolism rates between patients with ulcerative colitis undergoing a colorectal operation and other patients undergoing colorectal operations. METHODS: Data from the National Hospital Discharge Survey was used to compare thromboembolism rates between (1) hospitalized patients with a discharge diagnosis of ulcerative colitis and those with diverticulitis or acute respiratory failure, and (2) hospitalized patients with a discharge diagnosis of ulcerative colitis who underwent colectomy and those with diverticulitis or colorectal cancer who underwent colorectal operations. RESULTS: Patients diagnosed with ulcerative colitis had similar or higher rates of combined venous thromboembolism (2.03%) than their counterparts with diverticulitis (0.76%) or respiratory failure (1.99%), despite the overall greater prevalence of thromboembolic risk factors in the latter groups. Discharged patients with colitis that were treated surgically did not have signifi cantly different rates of venous or arterial thromboembolism than those with surgery for diverticulitis or colorectal ***: Patients with ulcerative colitis who do not undergo an operation during their hospitalization have similar or higher rates of thromboembolism than other medical patients who are considered to be high risk for thromboembolism.

Implantable vascular devices are widely used in clinical treatments for various vascular diseases. However, current approved clinical implantable vascular devices generally have high failure rates primarily due to their surface lacking inherent functional endothelium. Here, inspired by the pathological mechanisms of vascular device failure and physiological functions of native endothelium, we developed a new generation of bioactive parylene (poly(p-xylylene))-based conformal coating to address these challenges of the vascular devices. This coating used a polyethylene glycol (PEG) linker to introduce an endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) specific binding ligand LXW7 (cGRGDdvc) onto the vascular devices for preventing platelet adhesion and selectively capturing endogenous EPCs. Also, we confirmed the long-term stability and function of this coating in human serum. Using two vascular disease-related large animal models, a porcine carotid artery interposition model and a porcine carotid artery-jugular vein arteriovenous graft model, we demonstrated that this coating enabled rapid generation of self-renewable “living” endothelium on the blood contacting surface of the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) grafts after implantation. We expect this easy-to-apply conformal coating will present a promising avenue to engineer surface properties of “off-the-shelf” implantable vascular devices for long-lasting performance in the clinical settings.

Impact of antibiotics on smell dysfunction

Objective: Viral or bacterial respiratory infections can cause long-lasting olfactory dysfunction. Antibiotic therapy is indicated in severe cases; however, it is unclear whether antibiotic use produces a positive, negative, or null effect on olfactory function. This retro-spective study sought to determine whether antibiotic use has an influence on odor identifica-tion and detection threshold test scores of patients with smell dysfunction secondary to upper respiratory infections (URIs), lower respiratory infections (LRIs), or rhinosinusitis. Methods: Data from a total of 288 patients presenting to the University of Pennsylvania Smell and Taste Center were evaluated. Results: Patients with a URI etiology who had taken bactericidal antibiotics had lower detec-tion thresholds than did patients who had not taken antibiotics (P < 0.023; analysis of covari-ance with age and time since infection onset as covariates). Moreover, thresholds were lower for bactericidal antibiotic users than for bacteriostatic antibiotic users with either URI (P = 0.023) or rhinosinusitis (P = 0.028) etiologies. No meaningful influences of antibiotics on the odor identification test scores were evident. Conclusions: These findings, which need to be confirmed in prospective double-blind studies, suggest that bactericidal antibiotic therapy may be beneficial in mitigating, at least to some degree, chronic decrements in smell sensitivity due to URIs and rhinosinusitis.
