Diporphyrin tweezer for multichannel spectroscopic analysis of enantiomeric excess

The midline is a key choice point for axon *** binocular vertebrates(***),retinal axons diverge at the ventral midline and those originating in the nasal retina cross while those originating temporally do *** monocular vertebrates(e.g.,fish),all retinal axons cross the midline and project to their contralateral *** molecular mechanisms that promote midline crossing of retinal axons are not fully *** retinal midline crossing in the zebrafish,we find that two class 3 semaphorins(Sema3D and Sema3E) and their receptor neuropilinla(Nrpl1a) play an important role in facilitating midline crossing of retinal *** situ hybridization results reveal that at 32 hours post fertilization,when retinal axons exit the eye and start to cross the midline,Sema3D and Sema3E are expressed at the midline very near the optic chiasm where retinal axons ***3D is expressed just dorsal to the chiasm while Sema3E is expressed just ventral to the chiasm.A candidate receptor component for these two ligands,Nrpl1a, is highly expressed in retinal ganglion cells at the same *** zebrafish,retinal axons normally project through the chiasm and terminate in the contralateral *** targeting either Sema3D or Sema3E induce many retinal axons to misproject along an abnormal ipslilateral trajectory to the incorrect tectum.A morpholino that targets another class 3 semaphorin,Sema3Al,induces no defects in retinal axon *** morphants phenocopy Sema3D or Sema3E *** doses of morpholinos targeting sema3D and Sema3E,Nrplla and Sema3D,or Nrplla and Sema3E synergize to induce ipsilateral retinal misprojections,suggesting that both Sema3D and Sema3E are acting through Nrplla at the midline. Conclusions:These findings reveal that the Sema3/Nrpl1 signaling pathway is critical for retinal axons to extend across the midline.

Chiral 1,1’-binaphthyl-linked diporphyrin‘tweezers’(R)-1/(S)-1 and the corresponding zinc(II)complexes(R)-2/(S)-2 were prepared as chiral host molecules,and their utility for chiral analyses(especially enantiomeric excess(ee)determinations)were ***(1-n-dodecyl)porphyrins were used for the first time as the interacting *** capabilities of the diporphyrin tweezers were investigated by titrations with(R,R)-and(S,S)-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine(CHDA).The host molecules could be used as multichannel probes of ee by using UVvis,circular dichroism(CD),fluorescence emission and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance(1 H-NMR)*** configurations could also be differentiated using CD or 1HNMR *** three optical techniques give good resolution of ee with reasonable sensitivity considering the low concentrations used(ca.10^-6 mol·l^-1).The ee determination of CHDA enantiomers using NMR spectroscopy is also possible because of the reasonably well separated resonances in the case of(R,R)-and(S,S)-***-metallated(R)-1/(S)-1 hosts could not be used to detect chiral information in a strongly acidic chiral *** work demonstrates the utility of 1,1’-binapthyllinked chiral hosts for chiral analysis of ditopically interacting enantiomers.

AIM: To evaluate the benefits of low-volume polyethylene glycol(PEG) with ascorbic acid compared to fulldose PEG for colonoscopy preparation. METHODS: MEDlINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Database of Systematic Reviews, CINAHl, Pub Med, and recent abstracts from major conferences were searched(January 2012). Only randomized-controlled trials on adult subjects comparing lowvolume PEG(2 l) with ascorbic acid vs full-dose PEG(3 or 4 l) were included. Meta-analysis for the efficacy of low-volume PEG with ascorbic acid and full-dose PEG were analyzed by calculating pooled estimates of number of satisfactory bowel preparations as well as adverse patient events(abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting). Separate analyses were performed for each main outcome by using OR with fixed and random effects models. Heterogeneity was assessed by calculating the I2 measure of inconsistency. Rev Man 5.1 was utilized for statistical ***: The initial search identified 242 articles and trials. Nine studies(n = 2911) met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed for this meta-analysis with mean age range from 53.0 to 59.6 years. All studies were randomized controlled trials on adult patients comparing large-volume PEG solutions(3 or 4 l) with low-volume PEG solutions and ascorbic acid. No statistically significant difference was noted between lowvolume PEG with ascorbic acid and full-dose PEG for number of satisfactory bowel preparations(OR 1.07, 95%CI: 0.86-1.33, P = 0.56). No statistically significant difference was noted between low-volume PEG with ascorbic acid and full-dose PEG for abdominal pain(OR 1.09, 95%CI: 0.81-1.48, P = 0.56), nausea(OR 0.70, 95%CI: 0.49-1.00, P = 0.05), or vomiting(OR 0.99, 95%CI: 0.78-1.26, P = 0.95). No publication bias was ***: low-volume PEG with the addition of ascorbic acid demonstrates no statistically significant difference to full-dose PEG for satisfactory bowel preparation and side-effects.

AIM To develop practical guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of the painful snapping elbow syndrome(SE). METHODS Clinical studies were searched in the databases Pub Med and Scopus for the phrases "SE", "snapping triceps", "snapping ulnar nerve" and "snapping annular ligament". A total of 36 relevant studies were identified. From these we extracted information about number of patients, diagnostic methods, patho-anatomical findings, treatments and outcomes. Practical guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of SE were developed based on analysis of the data. We present two illustrative patient cases-one with intra-articular pathology and one with extra-articular *** Snapping is audible, palpable and often visible. It has a lateral(intra-articular) or medial(extra-articular) pathology. Snapping over the medial humeral epicondyle is caused by dislocation of the ulnar nerve or a part of the triceps tendon, and is demonstrated by dynamic ultrasonography. Treatment is by open surgery. lateral snapping over the radial head has an intra-articular pathology: A synovial plica, a torn annular ligament or a meniscus-like remnant from the foetal elbow. Pathology can be visualized by conventional arthrography, magnetic resonance(MR) arthrography, high resolution magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and arthroscopy, while conventional MRI and radiographs often turn out normal. Treatment is by arthroscopic or eventual open resection. Early surgical intervention is recommended asthe snapping can damage the ulnar nerve(medial) or the intra-articular cartilage(lateral). If medial snapping only occurs during repeated or loaded extension/flexion of the elbow(in sports or work) it may be treated by reduction of these activities. Wood plays a major role in land ecosystems and in human activity. Better understanding the genetic basis and evolutionary implication of wood variability are thus key issues with both ecological and economical implications. The present paper addresses the question of the extending and the nature of natural selection on wood related genes in Eucalyptus urophylla, a tropical tree species with key economical importance. We conducted a genetic study on an E. urophylla population from Timor Island using a set of 17 SSR characterized on a main sample of 43 individuals and six candidate genes sequenced on a subset of 18 individuals. The candidate genes include three cellulose synthase genes (EuCesA1, EuCesA2 and EuCesA3), and three genes involved in lignin synthesis (EuCAD2, EuC4H1 and EuC4H2). Based on SSR data, the investigated population appeared to have no structure and have undergone past population expansion. Accounting for this demographic history, we were able to draw neutral expectation for polymorphism distribution on candidate genes and to determine their potential selective status. We hence identified two gene portions exhibiting unexpected polymorphism pattern, consistent with natural selection imprint.
