Highly efficient nonlinear optical（NLO） materials with well-defined architectures in the wavelength and subwavelength length scales are of particular importance for next generation of integrated photonic circuits. Fluorenone analogues have been demonstrated to be promising candidates as building blocks for assembly of organic NLO materials thanks to their synergistic supramolecular interactions and brilliant optical properties. Here we have studied the polymorphs of a phenylethynyl functionalized fluorenone derivative, and their controlled self-assembly for microstructures with different morphologies. These polymorphic microcrystals exhibit very distinctive NLO properties, highly related to their supramolecular and electronic structures.

While emerging data suggest nucleotide oligomerization domain receptor 1(NOD1),a cytoplasmic pattern recognition receptor,may play an important and complementary role in the immune response to bacterial infection,its role in cancer metastasis is entirely ***,we sought to determine the effects of NOD1 on ***1 expression in paired human primary colon cancer,human and murine colon cancer cells were determined using immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting(WB).Clinical significance of NOD1 was assessed using TCGA survival data.A series of in vitro and in vivo functional assays,including adhesion,migration,and metastasis,was conducted to assess the effect of NOD1.C12-ie-DAP,a highly selective NOD1 ligand derived from gram-negative bacteria,was used to activate ***130,a specific NOD1 inhibitor,was used to block C12-ie-DAP *** knockdown(KD)of NOD1 in human colon cancer cells(HT29)was constructed with shRNA lentiviral transduction and the functional assays were thus ***,the predominant signaling pathway of NOD1-activation was identified using WB and functional assays in the presence of specific kinase *** data demonstrate that NOD1 is highly expressed in human colorectal cancer(CRC)and human and murine CRC cell ***,we demonstrate that this increased NOD1 expression negatively impacts survival in patients with ***,we identify NOD1 activation by C12-ie-DAP augments CRC cell adhesion,migration and *** effects are predominantly mediated via the p38 mitogen activated protein kinase(MAPK)*** is the first study implicating NOD1 in cancer metastasis,and thus identifying this receptor as a putative therapeutic target.

In this work, contact angle measurements for soot samples collected from a kerosene lantern, wood-burning fireplace, and municipal bus engine exhaust lines are reported. Contact angles for both freshly collected soot and samples treated with various doses of O3 (g), HNO3 (g), and H2SO4 (g) are considered. Use of a literature method has allowed estimation of the enthalpy of immersion (Himm) for the soot samples based on contact angle observed. Contact angles for freshly collected soot were 65 - 110 deg. indicating its hydrophobic nature. Chemical processing of soot usually resulted in smaller contact angles and large increases in immersion enthalpy. However, the dose of ozone, nitric or sulfuric acid vapor required to achieve alteration of the soot surface appeared to be considerably larger than that expected to be experienced by authentic atmospheric samples during the soot particles lifetime. The most significant variability of soot contact angle was observed for the municipal bus exhaust samples, suggesting that combustion chemistry may significantly affect wetting behavior.

Seven new polyketides,termed veramycins,were isolated from a Streptomyces *** the Sanofi microbial strain collection along with their known congeners NFAT-133 and *** A,anα-pyrone congener of TM-123 and NFAT-133 showed an increased baseline deoxy-glucose uptake in the absence of insulin in a modified L6 rat skeletal muscle cell line(L6 GLUT4 AS160-like cells).In addition,both compounds slightly increased the sensitivity to insulin in this cell *** syntheses of NFAT-133,TM-123 and veramycin A were accomplished starting from a central building block,which bears the three contiguous stereogenic centers of this polyketide *** approach enables an efficient,selective and flexible access to all possible isomers of the stereotriad for further exploration of this series as a potential anti-diabetic lead structure as exemplified by the synthesis of an NFAT-133 ***,the corresponding biosynthetic gene cluster(BGC)was identified by genome sequencing and gene *** on feeding experiments,a biosynthetic pathway was proposed,which enabled access to new veramycin A analogs by precursor-directed biosynthesis.

Marine algae and bacteria produce approximately eight billion tonnes of the organosulfur molecule dimethylsulfoniopropionate(DMSP)in earth's surface oceans *** is an antistress compound and,once released into the environment,a major nutrient,signaling molecule,and source of climate-active *** methionine transamination pathway for DMSP synthesis is used by most known DMSP-producing algae and *** S-directed S-adenosylmethionine(SAM)-dependent 4-methylthio-2-hydroxybutyrate(MTHB)S-methyltransferase,encoded by the dsyB/DSYB gene,is the key enzyme of this pathway,generating S-adenosylhomocysteine(SAH)and 4-dimethylsulfonio-2-hydroxybutyrate(DMSHB).DsyB/DSYB,present in most haptophyte and dinoflagellate algae with the highest known intracellular DMSP concentrations,is shown to be far more abundant and transcribed in marine environments than any other known S-methyltransferase gene in DMSP synthesis ***,we demonstrate in vitro activity of the bacterial DsyB enzyme from Nisaea denitrificans and provide its crystal structure in complex with SAM and SAH-MTHB,which together provide the first important mechanistic insights into a DMSP synthesis *** and mutational analyses imply that DsyB adopts a proximity and desolvation mechanism for the methyl transfer *** analysis suggests that this mechanism may be common to all bacterial DsyB enzymes and also,importantly,eukaryotic DSYB enzymes from e.g.,algae that are the major DMSP producers in earth's surface oceans.

In recent years, there have been significant developments in the research on 5th Generation (5G) networks. Several enabling technologies are being explored for the 5G mobile system era. The aim is to evolve a cellular network that is intrinsically flexible and remarkably pushes forward the limits of legacy mobile systems across all dimensions of performance metrics. All the stakeholders, such as regulatory bodies, standardization authorities, industrial fora, mobile operators and vendors, must work in unison to bring 5G to fruition. In this paper, we aggregate the 5G-related information coming from the various stakeholders, in order to i) have a comprehensive overview of 5G and ii) to provide a survey of the envisioned 5G technologies; their development thus far from the perspective of those stakeholders will open up new frontiers of services and applications for next-generation wireless networks.
