Origin of major ions in monthly rainfall events at the bamenda Highlands, North West Cameroon

Rainwater characteristics can reveal emissions from various anthropogenic and natural sources into the atmosphere. The physico-chemical characteristics of 44 monthly rainfall events （collected between January and December 2012） from 4 weather stations （bamenda, Ndop plain, Ndawara and Kumbo） in the bamenda Highlands （bH） were investigated. The purpose was to determine the sources of chemical species, their seasonal inputs and suitability of the rainwater for drinking. The mean pH of 5 indicated the slightly acidic nature of the rainwater. Average total dissolved solids （TDS） were low （6.7 mg/L）, characteristic of unpolluted atmospheric moisture/air. Major ion concentrations （mg/L） were low and in the order K＋〉 Ca2＋〉 Mg2~ 〉 Na＋ for cations and NO3 〉〉 HCO3 〉 SO] 〉 CI- 〉 PO3- 〉 F- for anions. The average rainwater in the area was mixed Ca-Mg-SO4-CI water type. The CI-/Na＋ ratio （1.04） was comparable to that of seawater （1.16）, an indication that N a＋ and CI originated mainly from marine （Atlantic Ocean） aerosols. High enrichments of Ca2＋, Mg2＋ and SO2- to Na＋ ratios relative to seawater ratios （constituting 44% of the total ions） demonstrated their terrigenous origin, mainly from Saharan and Sahelian arid dusts. The K＋/Na＋ ratio （2.24）, which was similar to tropical vegetation ash （2.38）, and NO3 was essentially from biomass burning. Light （〈 100 mm） pre-monsoon and post-monsoon convective rains were enriched in major ions than the heavy （〉 100 mm） monsoon rains, indicating a high contribution of major ions during the low convective showers. Despite the acidic nature, the TDS and major ion concentrations classified the rainwater as potable based on the WHO guidelines.

To study the molecular mechanisms involved in the hepatoprotective effects of naringenin (NAR) on carbon tetrachloride (CClb>4b>)-induced liver fibrosis. METHODsthirty-two male Wistar rats (120-150 g) were randomly divided into four groups: (1) a control group (n = 8) that received 0.7% carboxy methyl-cellulose (NAR vehicle) 1 mL/daily p.o.; (2) a CClb>4b> group (n = 8) that received 400 mg of CClb>4b>/kg body weight i.p. 3 times a week for 8 wk; (3) a CClb>4b> + NAR (n = 8) group that received 400 mg of CClb>4b>/kg body weight i.p. 3 times a week for 8 wk and 100 mg of NAR/kg body weight daily for 8 wk p.o.; and (4) an NAR group (n = 8) that received 100 mg of NAR/kg body weight daily for 8 wk p.o. After the experimental period, animals were sacrificed under ketamine and xylazine anesthesia. Liver damage markers such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (AP), γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GTP), reduced glutathione (GSH), glycogen content, lipid peroxidation (LPO) and collagen content were measured. The enzymatic activity of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) was assessed. Liver histopathology was performed utilizing Masson’s trichrome and hematoxylin-eosin stains. Zymography assays for MMP-9 and MMP-2 were carried out. Hepatic TGF-β, α-SMA, CTGF, Col-I, MMP-13, NF-κb, IL-1, IL-10, Smad7, Smad3, pSmad3 and pJNK proteins were detected via western blot. RESULTSNAR administration prevented increases in ALT, AP, γ-GTP, and GPx enzymatic activity; depletion of GSH and glycogen; and increases in LPO and collagen produced by chronic CClb>4b> intoxication (P ver histopathology showed a decrease in collagen deposition when rats received NAR in addition to CClb>4b>. Although zymography assays showed that CClb>4b> produced an increase in MMP-9 and MMP-2 gelatinase activity; interestingly, NAR administration was associated with normal MMP-9 and MMP-2 activity (P < 0.05). 近十多年,运用复杂网络的方法进行时间序列分析,是非线性动力学发展的最新方向,为传统的以混沌理论为基础的非线性时间序列分析注入了新生力量,在刻画动力系统非线性特征方面,提供了很多崭新的见解,在很多不同领域内都取得了广泛应用.本文回顾三种主要的方法:递归网络、可视图以及转换网络.着重介绍三种网络方法的理论基础和各自的最新进展.本文将指明今后时间序列网络方法的发展方向,并为实际数据分析提供指导作用.

Improved scoring system for the electrocardiographic diagnosis of left ventricular hypertrophy

bACKGROUND Left ventricular hypertrophy(LvH) is a common manifestation of cardiovascular disease and a risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, but available methods for its electrocardiographic(ECG) diagnosis have limited *** To investigate findings associated with LvH on ECG and developed an improved system for the diagnosis of *** A cohort study comparing ECG data acquired within 30 days of transthoracic echocardiography(TTE) was performed. Multivariate regression analysis identified ECG findings associated with increased Lv mass and mass index. A scoring system was derived and performance compared to established criteria for *** Data from 5486 outpatients with TTEs and corresponding ECGs were included in the derivation cohort, 333(6.1%) of whom had LvH by TTE. In the primary regression analysis, findings associated with LvH were amplitudes of Q in v3, R in v6, S in v3, T in v6, P' in v1, P in v6, as well as R and T-axis discordance, R peak time in v6, QRS duration, weight, height, sex, and age. From this we derived a score consisting of 5 criteria, and validated it in an independent cohort of 910 patients. With a threshold of 1.5 points, sensitivity and specificity were67.9% and 81.4%, and 62.5% and 83.2% in the derivation and validation cohorts,respectively. With a threshold of 2 points, sensitivity and specificity were 42.3% and 93.0%, and 37.5% and 93.4% in these *** This score had superior sensitivity for detection of LvH by ECG while making a modest sacrifice in specificity compared to conventional criteria.

目的观察原发性胆汁性肝硬化(PbC)患者和移植肝的实际生存时间,肝移植后死亡的原因及肝移植后的复发率。方法根据QLTS的数据库中的随访资料,回顾性分析52例共接受54次肝移植的PbC患者。52例PbC肝移植患者中,平均年龄(5 3.2±6.7)岁,平均随访时间是(5 5.4±11.3)个月。分析术前的临床特征、移植后生存情况和死亡原因,采用欧洲模式计算未接受肝移植患者和接受肝移植的患者的生存率。结果 PbC肝移植患者的1、5、1 0年的实际生存率分别为8 8.4％、80.1％和76.9％,未接受肝移植患者实际生存率分别为80.9％、6 5.4％和19.8％。PbC患者移植后的生存率比未接受肝移植的患者(欧洲模型)预期生存率高。有6例患者经肝活检后证实PbC复发,平均复发时间(34.1±10.2)个月。肝移植术后死亡的原因是多器官功能衰竭、腹腔内出血、肾功能衰竭、败血症及心血管疾病。结论肝移植可提高P b C患者的生存率,延长其生存时间。

Myeloid cells,such as neutrophils,are produced in the bone marrow in high quantities and are important in the pathogenesis of vascular diseases such as pulmonary hypertension(PH).Although neutrophil recruitment into sites of inflammation has been well studied,the mechanisms of neutrophil egress from the bone marrow are not well *** computational flow cytometry,we observed increased neutrophils in the lungs of patients and mice with ***,we found elevated levels of IL-6 in the blood and lungs of patients and mice with *** observed that transgenic mice overexpressing Il-6 in the lungs displayed elevated neutrophil egress from the bone marrow and exaggerated neutrophil recruitment to the lungs,resulting in exacerbated pulmonary vascular remodeling,and dysfunctional ***,we found that IL-6-induced neutrophil egress from the bone marrow was dependent on interferon regulatory factor 4(IRF-4)-mediated CX3CR1 expression in ***,Cx3cr1 genetic deficiency in hematopoietic cells in Il-6-transgenic mice significantly reduced neutrophil egress from bone marrow and decreased neutrophil counts in the lungs,thus ameliorating pulmonary remodeling and *** summary,these findings define a novel mechanism of IL-6-induced neutrophil egress from the bone marrow and reveal a new therapeutic target to curtail neutrophil-mediated inflammation in pulmonary vascular disease.

Typical feed gas mixtures used in technological and other plasmas may give rise to reaction networks involving several hundred *** chemistries are often too large to be used in full reactor simulations and it is therefore desirable to construct reduced chemistry networks which mimic as closely as possible the behavior of the full chemistry but employ far fewer individual reactions and *** chemistries are available from the Quantemol database (QDb) and two approaches to constructing reduced chemistry from these chemistries based on (a) physical intuition and (b) sensitivity analysis of dominant reaction pathways,are *** doing this it is necessary to consider different pressure and power *** chemistry sets are presented for CF4/O2/N2/H2,for which 396 reactions and 52 species are reduced to 71 reactions and 26 species,and for pure O2,for which 45 reactions and 10 species are reduced to 34 reactions.
