Major.clinical and angiogr.phic outcome of dr.g eluting stents in native ostial cor.nar. ar.er. disease

Objectives: The study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dr.g eluting stents (DESs) in aor.o-ostial (A-O) cor.nar. ar.er. lesions, in ter.s of ear.y and late r.stenosis r.te;including clinical assessment, non-invasive str.ss testing and angiogr.phic follow-up. Also, the study was aimed to compar. the r.sults of implantation of dr.g eluting stents (DES) to that of bar. metal stents (BMS) in aor.oostial lesions done over.a pr.vious 5 year. in r.yal Br.mpton Hospital. Backgr.und: The safety and effectiveness of DESs for.the tr.atment of aor.oostial lesions. Methods: We included 161 consecutive patients with symptoms subjective of angina pector.s or.objective evidence of myocar.ial ischemia;who under.ent per.utaneous cor.nar. inter.entions (PCI) in cor.nar. ostial lesions using DES. The patients wer. divided into two gr.ups based on the site of ostial lesion. The contr.l gr.up consisted of 125 consecutive patients who under.ent per.utaneous cor.nar. inter.ention for.ostial lesions using bar. metal stents (BMS) implantation in the per.od immediately befor. the intr.duction of DES. The incidence of major.adver.e car.iac events (MACE), including death or.Q-wave myocar.ial infar.tion (MI), need for.r.peated r.vascular.zation pr.cedur. CABG or.angioplasty, wer. r.cor.ed in-hospital and at twelve months ± 3 months. Follow-up angiogr.phy was only per.or.ed in case of r.cur.ent symptoms subjective of myocar.ial ischemia or.if ther. was objective evidence of myocar.ial ischemia by str.ss testing. r.sults: The initial pr.cedur. was successful in 149 patients (92.5%) in the DES ar.. Ther. wer. no statistically significant major.in-hospital complications in the DES gr.up, compar.d to BMS gr.up which showed 4 cases of in-hospital deaths (p = 0.017). At Twelve months ± 3 months follow-up, MACE wer. significantly less fr.quent in the DES gr.up compar.d to the BMS gr.up, including death (0.8% vs. 6.4%, p = 0.004) and need for.CABG (1.7% vs. 10%, p = 0.012). Conclusions
