The effect of abiotic stresses on plant C:N:P homeostasis and their mitigation by silicon

In crop plants, various environmental stresses affect the balance of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus(C:N:P), leading to biochemical and physiological alterations and reductions in yield. silicon(si) is a beneficial element that alleviates plant stress. Most studies involving silicon have focused on physiological responses, such as improvements in photosynthetic processes, water use efficiency, and antioxidant defense systems. But recent research suggests that stressed plants facing either limited or excessive resources(water, light, nutrients, and toxic elements), strategically employ si to maintain C:N:P homeostasis, thereby minimizing biomass losses. Understanding the role of si in mitigating the impact of abiotic stresses on plants by regulating C:N:P homeostasis holds great potential for advancing sustainable agricultural practices in crop production. This review presents recent advances in characterizing the influence of environmental stresses on C:N:P homeostasis, as well as the role of si in preserving C:N:P equilibrium and attenuating biological damage associated with abiotic stress. It underscores the beneficial effects of si in sustaining C:N:P homeostasis and increasing yield via improved nutritional efficiency and stress mitigation.

Litter removal impacts on soil biodiversity and eucalypt plantation development in the seasonal tropics

The little layer of tree plantations provides primary nutrients for uptake,buff ers changes in soil moisture,and provides habitat and substrate to soil epigeic ***,this layer in eucalypt plantations is often removed to reduce fuel load during the fi re season in the Brazilian savanna(Cerrado).Therefore,it is necessary to quantify the eff ects of changes in litter dynamics on the function of these plantations,on key nutrient cycling processes and on epigeic fauna diversity and *** two adjacent stands(one juvenile and one mature),the consequences of two years of litter removal were quantifi ed as monthly litterfall,leaf and fi ne wood litter decomposition,epigeic fauna abundance and diversity,soil biogeochemical variables,and tree diameter and basal area *** litterfall rates in juvenile and mature stands did not change with litter removal over the study *** litterfall ranged from 4.1 to 4.9 Mg ha^(−1)a^(−1)in litter removal plots and from 3.9 to 4.8 Mg ha^(−1)a^(−1)in control *** wood litter decomposition was slower in litter removal plots compared to controls,while leaf decomposition rates were similar in *** years of litter removal in the juvenile stand did not aff ect topsoil biogeochemical parameters but decreased available phosphorus at 20–40 cm depth relative to *** the mature stand,total cation exchange capacity(0–20 cm)was higher in controls(6.4 cmol c dm^(−3))relative to litter removal plots(6.3 cmol c dm^(−3)),while soil moisture(0–40 cm depth)was lower in litter removal(25.45 m 3 m^(−3))compared to control plots(26 m^(3)m^(−3))in the dry season.A non-metric multidimensional scaling ordination revealed an increased homogeneity in epigeic fauna where litter was ***,decomposition,diameter increment,four soil physical parameters and fourteen chemical parameters at 0–20 and 20–40 cm depth explained the diff erences in soil epigeic fauna composition between litter removal and control p

BACKGROUND Per-oral endoscopic myotomy(POEM)is safe and effective for the treatment of *** is limited data on performance of POEM in patients with altered upper gastrointestinal anatomy,especially after bariatric *** in patients with prior sleeve gastrectomy have not been *** To assess the efficacy and safety of POEM in patients with prior bariatric *** A prospective POEM database was reviewed from 3/2017-5/2020 to identify patients who underwent POEM after prior bariatric *** was assessed by technical success(defined as the ability to successfully complete the procedure)and clinical success[decrease in Eckardt score(Es)to≤3 post procedure].safety was evaluated by recording adverse *** six patients(50%male,mean age 48 years)with a history of prior bariatric surgery who underwent POEM were *** had prior sleeve gastrectomy(sG)and three prior Roux-en-Y gastric bypass(RYGB).Four patients had achalasia subtype II and 2 had type ***(4)patients had undergone previous achalasia *** success was 100%.Clinical success was achieved in 4(67%)patients at mean follow-up of 21 *** one of the clinical failures,EndoFLIP evaluation demonstrated adequate treatment and candida esophagitis was noted as the likely cause of *** were no major adverse *** POEM is technically feasible after both RYGB and sG and offers an effective treatment for this rare group of patients where surgical options for achalasia are limited.

Ethnobotany and Indigenous Traditional Knowledge in Brazil: Contributions to Research in Ecopsychology

This paper is the result of an investigation of the flora and traditionalknowledge in the conception of javaé indigenous people from the Txuirivillage located on Bananal Island, Brazil. The objective is to investigatethe plants used by these indigenous people, their diverse uses and tounderstand how traditional knowledge is passed on to new *** is a qualitative, descriptive and interdisciplinary survey, whose datacollection strategies included the application of semi-structured questionnairesand collection of plants for cataloguing according to AngiospermPhylogeny Group or APG III (2009). We identified 26 plant species, usedfor various purposes such as medicinal use, food, construction, craft andcultural, which were deposited in the Herbarium of the Federal Universityof Tocantins. Roots, stem and leaf are the plant parts most used bythe community. The plants mentioned were most frequently found on thebanks of the javaés River and in the backyard of the residences. significanttraditional knowledge of these people about the plants are transmittedto new generations, through visual, orality and experimentation. Ethnobotanicalstudies strengthen research in ecopsychology while allowingresearch into the interactions between human populations and plants.
