The simulation of industry-scale reactive bulks is challenging due to the complex interaction between fluid and *** particles in the bulk and their interaction with the fluid flow can be described by combined Discrete Element method-Computational Fluid Dynamics(dem-CFD)***,the computational cost of the Finite Volume(FV)methods deployed in these models can become prohibi-tively expensive,especially for high inner-particle *** particle reduced models(rms)can be used to achieve both fast and accurate descriptions of the processes in each *** an example of bulk systems comprising heat and mass transfer,we compared FV and rm simulations for the drying of wood chips in a bulk reactor.A manifold-based nonlinear interpolation was applied to resolve changing boundary conditions for the *** simulations showed that rms provide accurate values for the thermodynamic state variables of the ***,the time required for the bulk simulation was reduced by 67%with the *** is evident that simulations with high inner-particle resolution can be accelerated by rms if manifold-based nonlinear interpolation is used to address changing boundary conditions.

The extent of male mate choosiness is driven by a trade-off between various environmental factors associated with the costs of mate acquisition,quality assessment and opportunity *** knowledge about natural variation in male mate choosiness across different populations of the same species,however,r.m.ins *** this study,we compared male mate choosiness across 10 natural populations of the freshwater amphipod Gammarus roeselii(Gervais 1835),a species with overall high male mating investments,and evaluated the relative influence of population density and sex ratio(both affecting mate availability)on male mate *** investigated amplexus establishment after separating mating pairs and presenting focal males with a novel,size-matched female fr.m.the same *** analysis revealed considerable effects of sex ratio and(to a lesser extent)population density on time until amplexus establishment(choosiness).male amphipods are able to perceive variable social conditions(e.g.,sex ratio)and modify their.m.ting strategy accordingly:We found choosiness to be reduced in increasingly male-biased populations,whereas selectivity increases when sex ratio becomes female *** this,our study expands our limited knowledge on natural variations in male mate choosiness and illustrates the importance of sex ratio(i.e.,level of competition)for.m.le mating decisions in natural *** for variation in sex ratios,therefore,allows envisioning a distinctive variation of choosiness in natural populations and highlights the importance of considering social background information in future behavioral studies.

Introduction: Sickle cell anaemia is a hereditary disease that combines physical and psychological manifestations, including suicidal tendencies. So far, to our knowledge, no study has been conducted on suicidal behaviours among people with sickle cell disease in Cameroon. This is what justifies our study on the prevalence and factors related to suicidal behaviors in our study population. methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, analytical study of 171 sickle cell patients aged fr.m.12 years upwards who came to the sickle cell disease care service of the Laquintinie Hospital in Douala, over a period of 6 months, that is, fr.m.1 January to 31 June 2022. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire with questions on suicidal behaviours based on the “mINI” (mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview). The data were processed using the SPSS 26.0 software. The related factors were studied in both a bivariate and multivariate analysis. results: Female sickle cell patients accounted for 60.2% of the sample. The mean age was 23.36 ± 8.42 years. Suicidal ideation was prevalent in 56% of cases and 13% attempted suicide. The factors most associated with suicidal ideation were: pr.m.ry level of education (Or = 0.08 (0.09 - 0.79);p = 0.03), feeling unworthy of life (Or = 0.40 (0.08 - 1.96);p = 0.02), not often being considered by those around them (Or = 2.97 (1.26 - 6.99);p = 0.01), lack of family support (Or = 0.34 (0.15 - 0.77);p = 0.01). meanwhile, the factors associated with suicide attempts were: the fact of being rarely exposed to suicide-related media (Or = 4.17 (1.40 - 71.80);p = 0.03), and a constant feeling of sadness when returning home (Or = 18.02 (1.59 - 20.55);p = 0.01). Conclusion: more than half of sickle cell patients had had suicidal thoughts and 1/6 had made at least one suicide attempt, women and young adults being the most concerned. It is therefore necessary to ensure optimum psychological care for patients with sickle cell disease.

We present a new procedure for protecting micro-optical fibers(tapered fibers)by using the 3-dimensional(3D)printing technology.A standard single-mode optical fiber was tapered down to the diameter of 1mm and embedded in a polymeric matrix obtained by an additive manufacturing *** show that the proposed structure protects the fiber taper against environmental humidity while keeping permeability to gas flow and the possibility of the realization of gas detection *** our knowledge,this is the first time 3D printed casings were applied to protect fiber tapers fr.m.humidity *** envisage this new approach will allow the development of new fiber taper devices to better resist in humid environments.

Feature sensitive simplification and re-sampling of point set surfaces is an important and challenging issue for.m.ny computer graphics and geometric modeling *** on the regular sampling of the Gaussian sphere and the surface normals mapping onto the Gaussian sphere,an adaptive re-sampling fr.m.work for point set surfaces is presented in this paper,which includes a naive sampling step by index propagation and a novel cluster optimization step by normalized *** proposed re-sampling scheme can generate non-uniformly distributed discrete sample points for the underlying point sets in a feature sensitive *** intrinsic geometric features of the underlying point set surfaces can be preserved efficiently due to our adaptive re-sampling scheme.A novel splat rendering technique is adopted to illustrate the efficiency of our re-sampling ***,a numerical error statistics and surface reconstruction for simplified models are also given to demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm in term of the simplified quality of the point set surfaces.
