The Determinants of Anthropometric Deficits in Children under Five Years Old in Tete Province Mozamb.que Using Hierarchy Approach

Introduction: The malnutrition in children under 5 years is a serious pub.ic health prob.em in the developing countries such as Mozamb.que. The stunting can affect cognitive and physical development and compromise the school performance. Method: A cross sectional study was carried out which used the secondary data from a survey conducted b. National Health Institute of Mozamb.que, in districts of Angonia, Tsangano, Magoe and Changara in Tete Province, Mozamb.que. The polynomial regression model and the hierarchical approach were used to examine the association b.tween social economic factors and malnutrition in children measured b. stunting (low height for age) and underweight (low weight for age). Results: The prevalence of moderate and severe stunting was 39.8%, and prevalence of moderate and severe underweight was 19.6%. In the b.sic level, the households that had 1 durab.e goods possession were associated to 1.46 times greater than the mild underweight, OR = 1.46 (C.I. 95% 1.02 - 2.11). In the intermediate level, lack of latrine increased 2.01 times greater than the moderate and severe underweight in children, OR = 2.01 (C.I. 95% 1.09 - 3.70);In the immediate level, the child deworming had 1.91 times greater than the moderate and severe stunting, OR = 1.91 (C.I.95% 1.04 - 3.52) and children who did not b.eastfeed had 2.42 times greater than the moderate and severe stunting, OR = 2.42 (C.I. 1.49 - 3.43). Conclusion: In the countries where the weak health system and the inadequate children food are frequent, the prevalence of undernutrition in children remains very high.

The role of extracorporeal life support and timing of repair in infants with congenital diaphragmatic hernia

Extracorporeal life support(ECLS)serves as a rescue therapy for patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia(CDH)and severe cardiopulmonary failure,and only half of these patients survive to *** costly intervention has a significant complication risk and is reserved for patients with the most severe disease physiology refractory to maximal cardiopulmonary *** contraindications to ECLS do exist such as coagulopathy,lethal chromosomal or congenital anomaly,very preterm b.rth,or very low b.rth weight,b.t many of these limits are b.ing evaluated through further *** guidelines from the past decade vary in recommendations for ECLS use in patients with CDH b.t this therapy appears to have a survival b.nefit in the most severe sub.et of *** outcomes have b.en ob.erved for patients treated at high-volume *** review details the evolving literature surrounding management paradigms for timing of CDH repair for patients receiving preoperative *** recent data support early repair following cannulation to avoid non-repair which is uniformly fatal in this *** ECLS runs are associated with decreased survival,and patient physiology should guide ECLS weaning and eventual decannulation rather than limiting patients to arb.trary run *** of care across centers is a major focus to limit unnecessary costs and improve short-term and long-term outcomes for these complex patients.

Knowledge and Attitudes of Knust Pre-Clinical Dental Students towards Orthodontic Treatment

b.ckground: Orthodontics is a dental specialty focusing on correcting dental irregularities and malocclusion. Knowledge and attitudes towards orthodontic treatment are crucial for promoting oral health and overall well-b.ing. Education and awareness play a vital role in ensuring optimal treatment outcomes and improving quality of life. Aim: This study aims to determine the knowledge and attitudes of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) pre-clinical dentistry students concerning orthodontic therapy. Methodology: This research is a quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study. The research used a non-random convenience sampling method to form the desired sample. For data collection, an interview-administered questionnaire was used over one month. The study set its sights on pre-clinical dental students in KNUST. A total of 150 questionnaires were printed to meet the sample size. Results: The results of the research showed that the knowledge level of KNUST pre-clinical students on orthodontic treatment and its nuances is quite limited. They however had a fair level of knowledge on the disease or ailment that orthodontic treatments solved (especially malocclusion). Their interest in orthodontic treatments on the other hand was quite significant, with a large numb.r having interest in it. Conclusion: To conclude, KNUST pre-clinical students in Ghana although having a limited level of knowledge on orthodontic treatments have a keen interest in undergoing them regardless of the discomforts or the length of time.

Invariant natural killer T(iNKT)cells are part of the family of unconventional T cells,and they recognize glycolipid antigens presented on the MHC class I like molecule CD1^([1]).In humans there are five CD1 molecules named CD1a to CD1e,whereas mice use only CD1d for lipid ***,iNKT cells can elicit b.th cytotoxicity similarly to conventional CD8 T cells and secrete cytokines that influence the adaptive immune response including providing direct T cell help to b.cells^([2]).In the context of tumors,they can use b.th release of granzyme b.and use Fas-mediated mechanisms for killing of tumor *** iNKT cells use a restricted TCR repertoire and CD1 molecules are non-heterogenous the risk of graft vs host disease is limited and thus these T cells have b.en an attractive option for off the shelf immunotherapy to treat cancer^([3]).

Treating protein-rich wastewater using cost-effective and simple-structured single-stage reactors presents several *** this study,we applied an anaerob.c sequencing b.tch reactor(AnSb.)to treat protein-rich wastewater from a *** focused on identifying the key factors influencing the removal of chemical oxygen demand(COD)and the settling performance of the *** AnSb. achieved a maximum total COD removal of 90%,a protein degradation efficiency exceeding 80%,and a COD to methane conversion efficiency of over 70%at organic loading rates of up to 6.2 g COD L^(-1)d^(-1).We found that the variations in b.th the organic loading rate within the reactor and the hydraulic retention time in the b.ffer tank had a significant effect on COD *** hydraulic retention time in the b.ffer tank and the reactor,which determined the ammonification efficiencies and the residual carb.hydrate concentrations in the reactor liquid,affected the sludge ***,the genus Clostridium sensu stricto 1,known as protein-and lipids-degraders,was predominant in the *** analysis showed a significant correlation b.tween the core microb.ome and ammonification efficiency,highlighting the importance of protein degradation as the governing process in the *** results will provide valuab.e insights to optimise the design and operation of AnSb. for efficient treatment of protein-rich wastewater.

AIM:To investigate whether retinal nerve fib.r layer defects(RNFLDs)is a potential risk factor for chronic kidney disease(CKD)in Chinese ***:The Kailuan Eye Study was a populationb.sed study that included 14440 *** participants underwent detailed assessments,RNFLDs were diagnosed using color fundus ***:Overall,12507 participants[8533 males(68.23%)]had complete systemic examination data and at least one evaluab.e fundus *** were found in 621 participants[5.0%;95%confidence interval(CI):4.6%-5.34%],and 70 cases of multiple RNFLDs were found(11.27%).After adjusting multiple factors,RNFLDs was significantly associated with CKD severity,the ORs of CKD stage 3,stage 4 and stage 5 were 1.698,4.167,and 9.512,*** RNFLDs were also associated with CKD severity after adjusting multiple factors,the ORs of CKD stage 3 and stage 5 were 4.465 and 11.833 ***,2294 participants had CKD(18.34%,95%CI:17.68%-18.99%).After adjusting for other factors,CKD presence was significantly correlated with the presence of ***:The strongest risk factors for RNFLDs are CKD and ***,RNFLDs can b. an ocular feature in patients with *** can help detect systemic diseases,and assessment for RNFLDs should b. considered in CKD patients.
