The Efficacy and Safety of Succinylated Atelocollagen and Adenosine for the Treatment of Periorbital Wrinkles

The degradation of structural collagen contributes to the characteristic appearance of wrinkles. The anti-wrinkle effects of a variety of substances have been studied, but the potential anti-wrinkle effects of topical applications of collagen for periorbital wrinkles have not been investigated. To evaluate the effects of topical application of succinylated atelocollagen on periorbital wrinkles and to compare the results of treatment with adenosine, a clinical study on Korean participants was carried out. Each participant’s right or left periorbital area was treated with either a solution containing succinylated atelocollagen and adenosine or a solution containing only succinylated atelocollagen for two months. A placebo solution was applied to the opposite periorbital area of each patient’s face for two months. Based on objective and subjective measurements of clinical improvement, the assessment scores for treated sites were statistically significantly higher than scores for placebo sites after two months of treatment. Analysis of silicone casts of periorbital wrinkles demonstrated partial effects of succinylated atelocollagen on periorbital wrinkles. however, we did not observe any effects of adenosine on periorbital wrinkles. Succinylated atelocollagen may be an effective treatment option for periorbital wrinkles, but further studies including a longer treatment period and larger subject group are needed to verify these results.

Efficacy of Simple Assessment System of Oocyte Maturity in IVF-ET Cycles

Objective To establish and evaluate the efficacy of the simple assessment system of oocyte maturity. Methods A total of 251 couples were enrolled in this study and female patients were divided into two groups. In group Ⅰ, oocytes were inseminated at 6 h after ovum pick-up. In group Ⅱ, oocyte maturity was rapidly categorized by simple assessment system. Mature oocytes were inseminated at 3-4 h after ovum pick-up when oocyte-corona complexes （OCC） exhibited clear thick ring-like halo （RLH） and expanded cumulus cells （CC） or 5-6 h when OCC exhibited RLH and a few clumped and/or dark CC, respectively. Intermediate oocytes were inseminated at 7-8 h when RLH was not found around the OCC and CC were compacted and clumped and/or dark. Results Normal fertilization rate was higher in group Ⅱ （76.5%） than that in group Ⅰ （58.0%）（P〈0.001）. however, abnormal fertilization rate was higher in group Ⅰ（11.3%） than that in group 11 （3.6%）（P〈0.001）. The cleavage （82.6% vs 90.0%）, chemical pregnancy （4. 8% vs 3.9%）, twin pregnancy （6. 7% vs 3.9%） and implantation rate （8.4% vs 10.6%） had no statistically differences between group I and Ⅱ. Rate of clinical and singleton pregnancy was higher in groupⅡ （35.3% and 31.4%） than those in group Ⅰ （24.8% and 18.2%）（P〈0.05）. Conclusion This simple assessment system is useful and effective for evaluation and categorization of the oocyte maturity with better reproductive outcomes.

An Alternative Path for the Preparation of Triacetylcellulose from Unrefined Biomass

An alternative path for the preparation of triacetylcellulose (TAC) from unrefined biomass Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) has been found with environmental benefits. The method comprises separation and regeneration of cellulose from lignocellulosic biomass dissolved in ionic liquid BMIMCl, and also modification of cellulose to TAC. The triacetylcellulose with a degree of substitution of 2.93 was obtained by the reaction of acetic anhydride at 55。C with drastically reducing number of steps currently required to produce this derivative from raw materials itself. TAC was characterized using NMR analysis. The triacetate cellulose is typically used for the creation of fibers and film base.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is common problem, but its treatment still remains challenging. Tranexamic acid has been used to treat or prevent excessive bleeding loss in various medical conditions. There have been some reports of the effect of oral and topical tranexamic acid for treatment of pigmented disorder. Herein we report on a case of female patient who showed improvement of PIH after oral and topical tranexamic acid administration.

Treatment for gastric ‘indefinite for neoplasm/dysplasia' lesions based on predictive factors

BACKGROUND Gastric ‘indefinite for neoplasm/dysplasia'(IFND) is a borderline lesion that is difficult to diagnose as either regenerative or neoplastic. There is a need for guidance in the identification of a subset of patients, who have an IFND lesion with a higher risk of malignant potential, to enable risk stratification and optimal *** To determine the clinical and pathologic factors for the accurate diagnosis of gastric IFND *** In total, 461 gastric lesions diagnosed via biopsy as IFND lesions were retrospectively evaluated. Endoscopic resection(n = 134), surgery(n = 22), and follow-up endoscopic biopsy(n = 305) were performed to confirm the *** time interval from initial biopsy to cancer diagnosis was measured, and diagnostic delays were categorized as > 2 wk, > 2 mo, > 6 mo, and > 1 year. Diabetic factors associated with gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with type 2 diabetes

AIM: To determine whether gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are more frequent in type 2 diabetic patients and to examine which diabetic factors are associated with the symptoms. METhoDS: Consecutive subjects with diabetes and age-/gender-matched normal controls were recruited for this study. GI symptoms were assessed using a structured questionnaire divided into two GI symptomcategories (upper and lower GI symptoms), and consisting of 11 individual symptoms. In the diabetic patient group, diabetic complications including peripheral neuropathy, nephropathy and retinopathy, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level and diabetes duration were evaluated. RESULTS: Among the total 190 diabetic patients and 190 controls enrolled, 137 (72%) of the diabetic patients and 116 (62%) of the controls had GI symptoms. In the diabetic patient group, 83 (43%) had upper GI symptoms and 110 (58%) lower GI symptoms; in the control group, 59 (31%) had upper GI symptoms and 104 (55%) lower GI symptoms. This difference between the two groups was significant for only the upper GI symptoms (P = 0.02). Among the diabetic factors, the HbA1c level was the only independent risk factor for upper GI symptoms in the multiple logistic regression analysis (odds ratio = 2.01, 95% confidence interval: 1.02-3.95). CONCLUSION: Type 2 diabetes was associated with an increased prevalence of upper GI symptoms and these symptoms appeared to be independently linked to poor glycemic control, as measured by the HbA1c levels.

Comparison of the rheological properties of four root canal sealers

The flowability of a root canal sealer is clinically important because it improves the penetration of the sealer into the complex root canal system. The purpose of this study was to compare the flowabilities of four root canal sealers, measured using the simple press method （ISO 6876）, and their viscosities, measured using a strain-controlled rheometer. A newly developed, calcium phosphate-based root canal sealer （Capseal） and three commercial root canal sealers （AH Plus, Sealapex and Pulp Canal Sealer EWT） were used in this study. The flowabilities of the four root canal sealers were measured using the simple press method （n= 5） and their viscosities were measured using a strain-controlled rheometer （n=5）. The correlation between these two values was statistically analysed using Spearman＇s correlation test. The flow diameters and the viscosities of the root canal sealers were strongly negatively correlated （p= -0.8618）. The viscosity of Pulp Canal Sealer EWT was the lowest and increased in the following order： AH Plus〈Sealapex〈Capseal （P〈0.05）. All of the tested root canal sealers showed characteristic time- and temperature-dependent changes in their rheological properties. The viscosities measured using the strain-controlled rheometer were more precise than the flowabilities measured using the simple press method, suggesting that the rheometer can accurately measure the rheological properties of root canal sealers.

Using ab initio molecular dynamics(AIMD)simulations,classical molecular dynamics(CMD)simulations,small-angle X-ray scattering(SAXS),and pulsed-field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance(PFG-NMR),the solvation structure and ion dynamics of magnesium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide(Mg(TFSI)_(2))aqueous electrolyte at 1,2,and 3 m concentrations are *** AIMD and CMD simulations,the first solvation shell of an Mg;ion is found to be composed of six water molecules in an octahedral configuration and the solvation shell is rather *** TFSI^(-)ions prefer to stay in the second solvation shell and ***,the comparable diffusion coefficients of positive and negative ions in Mg(TFSI)_(2)aqueous electrolytes have been observed,which is mainly due to the formation of the stable[Mg(H_(2)O_(6))_(2)]^(+)complex,and,as a result,the increased effective Mg ion ***,the calculated correlated transference numbers are lower than the uncorrelated ones even at the low concentration of 2 and 3 m,suggesting the enhanced correlations between ions in the multivalent *** work provides a molecular-level understanding of how the solvation structure and multivalency of the ion affect the dynamics and transport properties of the multivalent electrolyte,providing insight for rational designs of electrolytes for improved ion transport properties.
