Growth of single-crystal Sn O_2 nanowires using a fluorine-doped Sn O_2(FTO) thin film as both the source and substrate is demonstrated for the first time at relatively low temperature(580 °C) which preserves the integrity of the underlying glass support and improves scalability to devices. Furthermore, a microwave hydrothermal process is shown to grow Ti O_2 nanorods on these nanowires to create a hierarchical nanoheterostructure that will lead to efficient photogenerated charge carrier separation and rapid transport of electrons to the substrate. This process simplifies nanowire growth by using commercially available and widely used FTO substrates without the need for an additional upstream Sn source and can be used as a high surface area host structure to many other hierarchical structures.

Background:Patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)are at increased risk of herpes zoster(HZ).We evaluated the incidence of HZ in ulcerative colitis(UC)and Crohn’s disease(CD)patients and compared this with HZ incidence in a non-IBD ***:We conducted a retrospective cohort study(GSK study identifier:VEO-000043)of adults aged18 years with UC and CD and without IBD who were identified from claims recorded in a US healthcare database between October 2015 and February *** HZ incidence rates/1,000 person-years(PY)were calculated,and comparisons of HZ incidence rates between UC or CD and non-IBD cohorts were made using adjusted generalized linear ***:The study population comprised a total of 29,928 UC,25,959 CD,and 11,839,329 non-IBD *** overall HZ incidence rates were 13.64/1,000 PY(UC),15.94/1,000 PY(CD),and 7.95/1,000 PY(non-IBD).UC and CD patients had increased HZ incidence rates,with adjusted incidence rate ratios of 1.35(95%confidence interval[CI],1.26–1.44)and 1.66(95%CI,1.56–1.77),respectively,compared with non-IBD *** analysis indicated increased relative rates of HZ in progressively younger age strata in the UC and CD patients compared with non-IBD *** incidence rates were higher in UC and CD patients who had previously received thiopurines or methotrexate,TNF-inhibitors,or corticosteroids than in UC and CD patients who did not take those ***:UC and CD patients had increased HZ incidence rates compared with patients without IBD,demonstrating the importance of HZ prevention in IBD patients.

Our goal is to develop a facile process to create patterns of inorganic oxides and metals on a substrate that can act as hard masks. These materials should have high etch contrast （compared to silicon） and so allow high-aspect-ratio, high- fidelity pattern transfer whilst being readily integrable in modem semiconductor fabrication （FAB friendly）. Here, we show that ultra-small-dimension hard masks can be used to develop large areas of densely packed vertically and horizontally orientated Si nanowire arrays. The inorganic and metal hard masks （Ni, NiO, and ZnO） of different morphologies and dimensions were formed using microphase- separated polystyrene-b-poly（ethylene oxide）（PS-b-PEO） block copolymer （BCP） thin films by varying the BCP molecular weight, annealing temperature, and annealing solvent（s）. The self-assembled polymer patterns were solvent-processed, and metal ions were included into chosen domains via a selective inclusion method. Inorganic oxide nanopatterns were subsequently developed using standard techniques. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy studies show that high-aspect-ratio pattern transfer could be affected by standard plasma etch techniques. The masking ability of the different materials was compared in order to create the highest quality uniform and smooth sidewall profiles of the Si nanowire arrays. Notably good performance of the metal mask was seen, and this could impact the use of these materials at small dimensions where conventional methods are severely limited.

A low-molecular-weight polylactide-poly(butylene succinate)(PLA-PBS)copolymer was synthesized and incorporated into polylactide(PLA)as a novel toughening agent by solvent *** copolymer had the same chemical structure and function as PLA and it was used as a plasticizer to *** copolymer was blended with PLA at a weight ratio from 2 to 10 wt%.Phase separation between PLA and PLA-PBS was not observed from their scanning electron microscopy(SEM)images and the crystal structure of PLA almost remained unchanged based on the X-ray diffraction(XRD)*** melt flow index(MFI)of the blends was higher as the amount of PLA-PBS increased,indicating that the block copolymer did improve the mobility of the PLA ***,tensile tests revealed that PLA with greater PLA-PBS copolymer exhibited higher elongation at break and it reached the maximum at 8 wt%of PLA-PBS in PLA,which was around 6 times higher than that of pure ***,the glass transition temperature,measured by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),markedly decreased with an increasing amount of the copolymer as it decreased from 61.2℃ for pure PLA to 41.3℃when it was blended with 10 wt%PLA-PBS ***,the PLA-PBS copolymer was shown to be a promising plasticizer for fully biobased and toughened PLA.

BACKGROUND： Various scoring systems based on assessment of the systemic inflammatory response help assessing the prognosis of patients with pancreatic ductal *** the present systematic review we evaluated the validity of four pre-intervention scoring systems： Glasgow prognostic score（GPS） and its modified version（mGPS）, platelet lymphocyte ratio（PLR）, neutrophil lymphocyte ratio（NLR）, and prognostic nutrition index（PNI）.DATA SOURCES： MOOSE guidelines were followed and EMBASE and MEDLINE databases were searched for all published studies until September 2013 using comprehensive text word and MeSH terms. All identified studies were analyzed, and relevant studies were included in the systematic ***： Six studies were identified for GPS/mGPS with3 reporting statistical significance for GPS/mGPS on both univariate analysis（UVA） and multivariate analysis（MVA）.Two studies suggested prognostic significance on UVA but not MVA, and in the final study UVA failed to show *** studies evaluated the prognostic value of NLR. Six of them reported prognostic significance for NLR on UVA that persisted at MVA in 4 studies, and in the remaining 2 studies NLR was the only significant factor on UVA. In the remaining5 studies, all in patients undergoing resection, there was no significance on UVA. Seven studies evaluated PLR, with only one study demonstrated its prognostic significance on both UVAand MVA, the rest did not show the significance on UVA. Of the two studies identified for PNI, one demonstrated a statistically significant difference in survival on both UVA and MVA, and the other reported no significance for PNI on ***： Both GPS/mGPS and NLR may be useful but further better-designed studies are required to confirm their value. PLR might be little useful, and there are at present inadequate data to assess the prognostic value of PNI. Dear Editor, We thank Dr. Kupferschmid for his interest in our study, which examined male circumcision （MC） and prostate cancer mortality〉2 Considerable strong evidence has been accumulated since 1951.3 Most of his references4-10 do not address MC and the risk of death from prostate cancer. That is a different question than MC and the risk of developing prostate cancer, which none of his references validly assess. One reference addressed bacterial colonization,6 not prostate cancer. Another7 concerned sexually transmitted infections and prostate cancer.

Investigation of Combustion of Emulated Biogas in a Gas Turbine Test Rig

Combustion of biogas in gas turbines is an interesting option for provision of renewable combined heat and power from biomass. Due to an increasing share of fluctuating renewable energies in the power grid(especially from wind and solar power), flexible power generation is of increasing importance. Additionally, with an increasing share of agricultural and municipal waste in biogas production, biogas composition is expected to be within a broader range. In this paper, the combustion of synthetic biogas(carbon dioxide and methane) in a combustion test rig with a swirl burner and a high pressure optical chamber is researched at different conditions. Results are compared to a CHEMKIN-PRO simulation using a detailed reaction mechanism. The results show that within the researched experimental matrix, stable biogas combustion for gas turbines can be achieved even with significantly changing gas composition and nominal power. Carbon dioxide concentration is varied from 0 to 60%. CO concentrations(normalized to 15% O_2) in the flue gas do not change significantly with increasing carbon dioxide in the fuel gas and, for the researched conditions, stayed below 10 ppm. NO_x concentration is below 10 ppm(normalized to 15% O_2) for pure methane, and is further decreasing with increasing carbon dioxide share in the fuel gas, which is mainly due to changing reaction paths as reaction analysis showed. Thermal load of the combustor is varied from 100% to 20% for the reference gas composition. With decreasing thermal load, normalized carbon monoxide flue gas concentration is further reduced, while NOx concentrations are remaining at a similar level around 5 ppm(normalized to 15% O_2).

The prognosis of pancreatic cancer is poor with the overall 5-year survival rate of less than 5%changing minimally over the past decades and future projections predicting it developing into the second leading cause of cancer related mortality within the next *** into the mechanisms of pancreatic cancer development,progression and acquired chemoresistance have been constant for the past few decades,thus resulting in the identification of human nucleoside transporters and factors affecting cytotoxic uptake via said *** review summaries the aberrant expression and role of human nucleoside transports in pancreatic cancer,more specifically human equilibrative nucleoside transporter 1/2(hENT1,hENT2),and human concentrative nucleoside transporter 1/3(hCNT1,hCNT3),while briefly discussing the connection and importance between these nucleoside transporters and mucins that have also been identified as being aberrantly expressed in pancreatic *** review also discusses the incidence,current diagnostic techniques as well as the current therapeutic treatments for pancreatic ***,we address the importance of chemoresistance in nucleoside analogue drugs,in particular,gemcitabine and we discuss prospective therapeutic treatments and strategies for overcoming acquired chemoresistance in pancreatic cancer by the enhancement of human nucleoside transporters as well as the potential targeting of mucins using a combination of mucolytic compounds with cytotoxic agents.
